Say you are a defense contractor for the US, can you go work for Russia or China at the same time? I don't really know, but I highly doubt it. Maybe the company, but certainly not the individuals working on specific projects.

I have those as well (with the light sensitive filter, so they darkened in the sun, quickly), and I was playing Ok after a period of adaptation, but if I turned my head just a tad, I had trouble getting the ball back in focus again, because those progressive lenses have such a narrow field of vision. My solution? Not the contacts as I once, a long long time ago, fought with my ophthalmologist for what seemed like an eternity to get them back out after an afternoon try. I was never ever able to wear contact lenses. So, what is my solution, I hear you ask again? Simply go back to a single distance prescription and forget the multi-focals. Sure I need to lift my glasses to glance at the score card, or my phone or whatever now and then, but now I can see the ball at all times and my contact (with the ball, not the lenses) has improved! So, I have a pair of sunglasses with the distance prescription and also a cheap clear one (ordered online, frame and lenses for like $39), for those overcast or rainy days or late in the day in winter when fighting daylight is a struggle and not using the sunglasses meant reverting back to the multi-focals. No more.

I don't care for Greg Norman and his Saudi league, but if this was true it would indeed mean that Tour players are employees but they are not: they are contractors who are self-employed, but can't only work for one client, the PGA Tour. Sure, that's a condition of their working on that tour, and it's probably passing mustard, legally (IANAL), but is it truly a free market then?

Got one today. #6 is a 520 yards par 5, with a very uphill tee shot and a mild dogleg to the right after about 280-290. I had a good drive, in the fairway but was hugging the right side a bit too much considering the upcoming dogleg and that I don't drive 290, far from it! Then I hit a nice faded 5 wood around the corner back to the middle of the fairway, to about 80 yards from the flag, and then a half 50 degree wedge to 3 feet for a near tap-in. Love those easy to get birdies! 🙂 Why can't they happen a tad more often?
-
Nice: 3 birdies in a row!! What is your personal best, as how many consecutive birdies? The record on the PGA Tour is something crazy like 8! I think mine is a measly 2. And most birdies in a round is 4, so far. Sorry if it's a little bit Back to our ringer scores!

So you were multitasking (overlapping activities)! To be fair, I don't see too many folks putting the head cover back on while sitting in the cart, most do it standing by their bag, instead of driving away. Good on you!!
-
No backlog, I'm afraid. The few birdies I am making are ones I have already got, many times over. The others remain elusive, despite some of them being relatively easy (eg par 5s, or shorter par 4s). But the season is still long, and in fact probably only just beginning in earnest for you, @bkuehn1952 The race is on! 🙂

Nah! You need to learn how to multitask: get your zipper down when you are looking for that perfect tree. Also, zip it up when you are getting back to your cart: it gives a new meaning to walking and chewing gum at the same time! 🙂

Perhaps you and your wife do all the other things that also only take 5 seconds more correctly (in overlapping fashion), and despite perhaps adding 10 minutes to your time, you could still be faster (or a lot faster) than a lot of people? Dunno... <rant> The type of stupid stuff that I see people do in front of me is just staggering and pathetic at times, and no, putting head covers back on does not even crack the top 10. Just this afternoon, it took almost 5 hours to go around an easy course. I think golf is doomed, at least on public courses. 😞 </rant>

Yes, I said that much. That's about the worst case possible, not that it actually happens in real life. But as you see, 45 minutes is a very large number. Even if it is only 10 minutes in reality, it is still noticeable. QED. The case I describe of a walker putting his head cover back on and then the club back in the bag before he start walking away so I can hit behind him is very real, and more frequent than you might think. Even with a cart, I see people doing this and it slows down the group behind (me!), waiting for the cart to clear out. It's not like the player is taking the club with him in the cart, and drive away to put the head cover back on later, as he could/should. That extra 5 second is impacting the group behind, a lot of the time.

If you also have iron covers (another sore subject), let's say that's 52 times in a round that you need to spend those 5 seconds, plus another 18 times after finishing putting, for a total of 70x5 = 350 seconds, nearly 11 minutes. Now, if your 3 other buddies do the same, it's a whopping 45 minutes total. Now, before you say this is crap and everything, yes I agree, to a point. As long as any of those actions are taking place in parallel to something that had to take place already, the time spent is effectively zero. Things like starting to walk and push your cart, while putting the head cover on at the same time (many folks don't do that: they slide the head cover on, then putt the club back in the bag and then they start walking). Or, putting a cover on while your buddy is still playing his shot, or walking back from the green, etc.. This is true of many little things, like putting one's glove on, getting a yardage with a rangefinder, putting a club back in the bag (instead of hoping in the cart, and doing it at the next stop when pulling out the next club), etc... All these things and many more only take 5 seconds or less, but they can take zero time effectively, if done while an overlapping (needed) activity also takes place. Otherwise, it all adds up. So does keeping the cart (or push cart) on the wrong side of the green, writing down the score at the green, etc...

Absolutely! Wow, one of the best that I can recall... Now, I really wish I had a green jacket, lol!

I would be guessing Viktor Hovland as the winner. He's been on a tear lately. Maybe -12 as the winning score? Morikawa is a good bet too, but as a young player, he already has a major: give Viktor a chance... 🙂

Gotta love those short par 3s, just a touch over 300 yards. You must be a stud. Congrats! Just busting your chops for the (funny) typo. Congrats on the birdie, regardless.

@bkuehn1952, do you realize that I work 0 days a week, and play the home course a couple times a week, and an away course at last once a week? While I am elated that you have recovered from your health scare, don't count too much on catching me. Ah! Play well!

If I walk with the push cart, I take off the putter cover and the driver cover at the beginning of the round and store them in the bag. I lost the cover on the 5 wood, which I use the most of the other covered clubs, got rid of the hybrid for a 4 iron, so it's only the 3 wood cover that stays on until a shot and goes back on afterwards. If I ride, I take the putter cover and store it in the bag as above. The first time I use a club, I pull the cover (that's only driver and 3 wood for those following the story), I put it in the basket and never put it back on until the parking lot, or the unloading of the bag. To me, head covers are only useful for transporting the clubs, eg in the trunk of the car. Otherwise, I don't care for them. They just waste time.

Tiger failed on a personal way, but at least he always managed to represent golf as a sport and the Tour as an organization in a good light, and when he couldn't do it, it would stay away from microphones. Phil royally screwed the pooch, the Tour and everything else, for all to see and yacked about it to a reporter, like he had done a good thing. Face palm.
-
It looks like Rory really nailed it when he commented on Phil's position: “I don’t want to kick someone while he’s down obviously, but I thought they were naive, selfish, egotistical, ignorant” Well done, Rory! And Phil, get lost. Just as you were getting new fandom support after the last PGA Championship wins and your stellar start on the Champions Tour, you really dug a big hole for yourself with this conspiracy. Stay down there, please.

I would have to guess well over 130, full of tops, chunks, whiffs, penalties and 4-putts. 😎 Any more questions? Oh, yeah, it was on an easy muni course. Nothing special or difficult about it. Golf is hard, someone said (and trademarked)!!

Going from around 20 to 13-14 was by playing more, and going from there to single digits and staying there (lowest was 6.6 and currently around 8.0) was by taking lessons, at GolfTEC in my case, and playing at least twice a week: retirement helps in that regard, of course. I am not trying to improve anymore, just maintaining a single digit handicap. Play smart and apply the LSW principles.

3 birdies on an away course today, set up by 3 nice approaches (ie no heroic putting).
-
@iacas, should we (perhaps you, or can anyone do it?) reset the Away Courses tab in this year spreadsheet? It currently has last year's data. Thanks!
-
Added one birdie today (3 so far) and all the missing pars. So a par challenge would already be over! 🙂
-
You are off to a great start! At this rate, you'll be done by mid-March, weather permitting.

I was just thinking about her a few days ago, knowing she would turn 100 in just a few days/weeks. The Big Man Upstairs had apparently some other plans. She was one of the greats and will be missed. RIP.
