First eagle came a month ago. Dogleg right par 5, played driver to mid-iron and actually chipped in from a yard or two off the green. Funny part is I played the course the day before and left my chip for eagle sitting on the lip. Three holes later I got my second eagle; another par 5. Hit a 3 hybrid from 248. There were guys on the green which I didn't think I'd hit because I was looking to be about 20yds out (I shouldn't have hit but it was slow and mistakes happen). THe shot rolled up to the green, hit a guy on the bottom of his leg and sat 8ft from the hole. I went and apologized and bought the guy a drink at the turn but I made the putt. Ended up birdy-ing 18 as well for a personal record 2 under 34 on the front nine. Best 5.5 hour round of my life lol.

Single goes through then couple holes later we go through. I figured I didn't have to spell it out in my first post but that was my logic.

As an aside for this thread. If you're a single playing behind a three or four some on an empty course and they offer to let you through, play through for the love of God. I don't care if you're out practicing taking your time and don't mind waiting. My buddy and I behind you (whom you denied to play with) play fast and don't want to wait on you and the threesome every damn shot.

Having a great year actually lol. They only get hit on weekends and every person making the tee time is aware of the policy so it's completely on them. Don't get me wrong, if they call ahead and let us know about it, we accommodate and don't charge them but if an entire four some doesn't show or a four some shows with two guys only, then we hit you.

Quote: I'm not going to lie, I didn't read half the thread. With that said, a golf course really doesn't take up that much space in the grand scheme of things. I'm going strictly off my area (DC metro area) with my response. We have hospitals, parks, homeless shelters, and whatever else you mentioned should take it's place and we still have room for golf courses; so does every area in the US. It's not like we are hurting for space or bumping elbows with our neighbors when we walk out of the door. The country's foundation is built around capitalism. The idea of private ownership where someone can start damn near any business they want to staying inside of regulations. My home course is built on an old farm actually. The cart barn is part of the old farm. There are 20 other farms within a 10 minute drive of the course so saying that a golf course takes away valuable space from farms or something else more publically usable is just simply not correct. With that said, my course also has a public park right across the street so there goes that. For the PETA people, golf courses even provide great spots for animals to live. Most golf courses incorporate housing developments into the design of the course these days so again, saying courses take away from land that can be used for homes is just flat wrong. Hell, Disney takes up a ton of space and isn't necessary. Let's get rid of it. While we're at it, let's get rid of The Capitol Building in DC as well. The politicians certainly aren't doing anything in it....You can't get rid of unnecessary things, it's what America is built on. Please don't get rid of Disney. I like the area and the golf courses ;)

Quote: Couldn't agree more with you. I work in the pro shop at my course and my regular golfers get certain advantages and breaks that the non-regulars get. Not saying it's fair or right but it's good to keep the regulars happy.

What would you have done with Jeter's 3000 hit HR ball?
Yanks Fan replied to BrushCaddy's topic in Sports
Even being a huge Yankees fan my whole life, I'd find it very hard to just give that ball up. Granted, he got some sweet stuff signed by Jeter but still, that ball could go for hundreds of thousands on the open market. I'd ask for lifetime season tickets at Yankee Stadium or at least for season tickets for 10+ years. -

Taylor Made R7's for me. Recently just changed from CG1 blades back to the R7's and have dropped from a 9.6 to a 8.3 with them. -
Quote: Be careful with that. Some courses will hit you with a charge for the guest that didn't show up. People try that all the time at the course I work at and on busy weekends, we hit you with a $25 charge per guest who didn't show up on the credit card of the person who made the time. As for the single reservations, on a busy day if I'm working, I'll make a time for a single only with a two-some or three-some. We won't make a time for a single on an empty tee slot because we gain nothing. Technically, you can make a time as a single online at the course I work at but it is policy for us that we can change your tee time to squeeze you with a twosome or threesome to open up a tee slot for a foursome only if we are busy. From a company view, totally understandable. From a golfer's view, not the best policies.

I don't know what I did but I went out and shot a 40 on the front nine today but couldn't finish. My swing didn't even feel that good but I scored well. We'll see what happens tomorrow when I play. I don't dare say I'm over the shanks though lol.
-
I think number 2 is the winner. In the two weeks before I officially got the shanks, I had noticed that my divots were (for lack of a better explanation) looking like this (ME \ ) as I am a righty. In other words, cutting across it with a great over the top move. When I do hit the ball "decently" right now, I'm missing with a dead pull or a soft lazy fade. I might have to give that a shot tomorrow Cut. Makes sense since I'm knocking a lot of the hosel. Funny you mention that LL, I actually just began to walk up and hit the ball without much thinking or effort and went 2 over on the last 3 holes. Which normally I would not be pleased with but for that round, I was exuberant.

I'm at an absolute loss right now. I went from shooting 80-83 consistently to not being able to break 95 my past 2 times out. My local pro has been working with me to release my hinge earlier and changing my grip to interlocked. I've got a big golf trip planned in 3 weeks so I'm keeping my swing what it is until I get back to work on everything but now my swing is beyond lost. For those who have gone through this terrible feeling, what did you do to get back into rhythm? The Golf God's are spiting me because I shook the hand of a guy and gave him a tough time about his own case of the shanks declaring "I've never had the shanks before."

You only have a handful of choices down there quite frankly and I've played most of them. The best one in my opinion is Kilmarlic. It has more of a country club feel to it then the others and is always in good condition. It is probably one of the tougher courses down there but the one I enjoy the most. The Pointe is also a good choice. It's probably the easiest and most friendly course. Not a lot of trouble and it's wide open but the greens are always in great shape. The Carolina Club is the sister course to The Pointe and I like it more. It's a bit tougher than The Pointe but is in just as good of shape. Another course is Nags Head Links (the one running by the bypass on the sound side) but quite frankly I will never play there. It's a very gimmicky course. It has great views but it has a high price tag and the course just is not fun. There is always a very strong wind coming off the sound and the course has never been in that good of shape each time I've played. I personally will never play there again. Another one there is Sea Scape and you can go ahead and skip it as well. The owners are complete assholes and the course is just not good. It has a stupid layout and the course just is not worth playing. Another one I'll mention quickly is Holly Ridge. it's a cow pasture plain and simple. They could pay me to play there and I wouldn't. The Currituck Country Club is the one course I haven't played down there pretty much because it's about an hour away from my house. Any other questions on the courses, just let me know.

Good lord Shorty, get off the guys nuts lol. You can be a straight shooter with him and tell him it's not a hole in one (which even he admitted) but relax dude. Who cares what some dude over the internet whom you'll never meet put down on his card as his score? Does it really bother you that much? The guy isn't on tour playing for money and neither are you. Great par OP. Frustrating but a good story nonetheless.

I play 1-2 rounds a week right now working 25 hours a week plus going to school full time. During the summer I'll work 40 hours a week and play 4-5 rounds a week easy. Play at the crack of dawn and work at noon until close then repeat. My boss at the course plays at least 5 rounds of golf a week as well. It's a laid back atmosphere at my course though so it really might be different at other courses but that's my experience.

I've been working at a course for 3 years now. It's a blast to work there to be honest. I pretty have been the assistant GM for the past 6 months as well. It's a real easy job if you learn quickly. Set up tournaments, handle inventory and merchandise, scheduling, etc. The biggest key is to always listen to the customer. No matter how dumb they are, listen and help them. Show initiative around your boss and he will quickly realize you are a good employee. Working at a golf course isn't like working anywhere else. It's very laid back and quite frankly, it's just a fun experience really. I get free golf plus discounts on anything golf I want. In addition, I've made connections with hundreds of people for future employment and for other golf courses so I can go play any course in the area (public or private) for free or damn cheap.

I'm not going to lie, I try to a hand full of times each time I play. I know I'm not good enough or consistent enough but it's just more fun. I'm a decent golfer playing around an 8 right now but I just enjoy it. I'd rather enjoy hitting that hard 7i 170 with a draw 15% of the time then just hitting the 6i smooth. We aren't playing for money or our tour cards here people, have some with the game.

Good golf courses in our nation's capital
Yanks Fan replied to ElWagonne's topic in Golf Courses and Architecture
I wouldn't touch Augustine right now. Maybe by July they might be in better condition but they got hammered last summer. From what I've heard, a good amount of their members left because of the condition of the course. The course I work at got 3 or 4 members from them. The lay out is nice but the course is in poor condition right now. Inside scoop though, wait until the new management gets that course together. As for Stonewall, play it. Great course. My course I work at is 10 minutes from it. Play 18 at Stonewall then 18 at my work for a nice day hahah. Drive 2 hours south to Spring Creek in Gordonsville. Worth every second of the drive and hands down best public course in VA. -
Lmao that's classic. I work behind the desk in the pro shop at my course and it's unreal the questions you get. The most epic one I've heard was a lady called for a tee time....on the driving range. I want to beat my head into a wall after leaving work on a weekend.

Drills/Tips To Gain Consistency With Driver

Drills/Tips To Gain Consistency With Driver
Yanks Fan replied to Yanks Fan's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Here's some videos. The first two will be my pitching wedge. The last two will be driver. Honestly...My swing feels awful. PS, third swing with the driver was me swinging hard out at it hence the poorer swing. -
Drills/Tips To Gain Consistency With Driver
Yanks Fan replied to Yanks Fan's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
I can't argue either of those points. Honestly, I've been playing three years and any other club I can hit just fine. My irons are fantastic and same story for my hybrid. In my three years of playing though, I have never ever ever been able to hit driver and quite frankly, it's pissing me off. I guess it's time to turn to lessons finally lol. The launch angle is horrid. There's no beating around the bush with that lol. Hitting it low on the face is definitely a plausible idea and I know I do. As far as the monitor goes, it could very well be off here or there I'm sure. If the weather doesn't suck tomorrow, I'll go get a video of my swing as I think that might help put a visual to the problem. -
Drills/Tips To Gain Consistency With Driver
Yanks Fan posted a topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
I'm at a loss now to be honest. I just recently bought a Cobra S2 10.5 stiff shaft. I was able to try that driver and compare numbers vs my old driver and a few other drivers. The Cobra by far had the best numbers for me (distance, spin, dispersion, launch angle, etc). First, let me start with my typical ball flight with my driver. It's always a cut/slice and low. If I hit a draw it's an act of God. Just a background note here, I can shape the ball both left and right no problem with my irons and hybrid. I have had a few people look at my swing with my driver and give me their thought on my mistake and the common answer is "my right elbow/arm is being tucked in too much and i need to let it out" and "my swing is far too flat". Here are my numbers from the swing monitor (averages): Launch angle: 6-8 degrees (out of 20+ swings, I had one above 12 degrees) Spin Rate: 2800-3200 Dispersion: 8 Ball Speed: 130 Swing speed: 103-105 I guess my two questions are, without seeing my swing: 1. Assuming the two ideas above are what is truly wrong, what drills or tips or swing thoughts can you give me to practice? 2. How the hell can I get a launch angle that isn't the same as a middle school kid's shoe size? Now I understand the best option is to get a video of my swing up and I'll try to this weekend but it just snowed again last night...mind you it was 75 three days ago lol. Also, for the record, I used to not even bother carrying a driver and would just hit 3 wood off the tee because I used to not miss with it but recently it's been nothing but quick little duckhooks with it...but being a regular flex and draw bias isn't helping I'm sure lol. -
Anybody played Shingle Creek in Orlando?
Yanks Fan replied to jetsknicks1's topic in Golf Courses and Architecture
A shame you didn't get to play it but I've heard good things about Falcon's Fire. I'm going down to Orlando tomorrow for the weekend and am planning on playing that course for the first time. -
Anybody played Shingle Creek in Orlando?
Yanks Fan replied to jetsknicks1's topic in Golf Courses and Architecture
I've played Shingle Creek about 5-7 times. It's a gorgeous course. It's been in immaculate shape every time I play. I've played a bunch of the courses down in Orlando and it's one of my favorite down there. The greens are usually pretty fast and there's no such thing as a bad lie. It's not the easiest course but at the same time it really isn't too hard. There are a few holes that will definitely give you a tough time but you'll enjoy your time playing there. Just make sure you bring some cash for tips because they get you right when you get there taking your bags, cleaning your clubs, parking your car, etc.
