"5 Minutes Daily" Practice Challenge (May 2015)
Huddo replied to iacas's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
I will be going to the range later to incorporate my 5 mins of work on the backswing, focusing on more of a hip turn. -
Hi, and welcome to the site. I'm a similar HC to yourself and use Ping G10's. Have you got the corresponding colour dot to match your ideal loft angle as this can make a difference? You can go onto the Ping website and use the iFit to find out. In terms of whether you need GI irons, it really is a case of trying them out first to see if you "get on with them". My G10's help me to get the ball in the air more consistently and my misses are meant to be more forgiving. Ensure you have the right size clubs and experiment with a few different types to see what feels right for you. Good luck.

Home life has been really hectic over the last 7 days, I won't bore you with the details but I've not picked a club up since last Friday. It might actually be a good thing as my left wrist and shoulder are tender due to my poor technique! I have almost finished reading my copy of LSW.....what a great read. I won't give away too much, but the emphasis on the Driver, shot zones and SV will be game changing for me in the long run. I've booked a session on a Trackman tomorrow so that I can firstly gauge my club distances and also chart my shot pattern. Also fell behind on my evolvr work so it's about time I hit the range!

Big digger due to my awful swing and a sore left wrist to boot!
-
2 Clubs 7-8 iron for bump and run. 54° SW for chips and bunker shots.
-
Finally got my finger out...........my copy is on its way!
-
Welcome Pete, all the best with your golf journey!
-
Interlock is the only grip that feels secure to me although I've never tested the other's for many shots......

What should I purchase next to further my golf development?

Hi, thanks for the reply, you've made some great recommendations! Quote: - lessons. you are getting them through evolvr. I am too. Keep that up definitely. If you are going to spend more money get more lessons. :) My evolvr lessons are great and I initially contemplated having extra one to one coaching locally but as I've been told and found out to my cost, good instructors are very hard to find. Also, something @iacas said in this post really sums it up....... No matter how many lessons I have and who with, makes no difference if I don't commit the time to making the change! I won't have a coach by me every time I play.......although it would be nice! Quote: - learning to drive. get a driver and learn to drive. you should definitely have one and learn to use it. i have seen experts say beginners should learn to drive first and experts say they should learn to drive last. so i guess its up to you. personally i like driving and LSW wins says its your most important shot to get good at. I've got a Driver, probably not a very good one but that doesn't really matter at the minute. I have been saying that I need to start practicing with my Driver and Woods, lack of distance is definitely holding me back. I will endeavour to take the head cover off this week and give it a blast. Quote: - get Lowest score wins. it will help show you what you should focus on and give you good practice tips. its only like $30 and a good quick read Could not agree more! I don't know why I didn't include this in my poll...............it's getting ordered tonight! Quote: - i just picked up the golf app V1 analyzer. It was like $4 on android. essentially i can compare my evolvr videos to pros side by side. its awesome. i can see what i am messing up. It also helps my evolvr lessons because i can see when they tell me to do something how i am not and how the pros are. I think this was an awesome 4 dollar investment. I might have to treat myself, just to laugh at the fact that I will have no similarities to a pro's swing! Quote: - otherwise just get out there and play/practice. i am still not sure if i should be spending more time on the range or course but i figure either is super helpful for us since we are just learning Thanks again for your post, it sure is great to know that there are other people out there who are new and learning the game even though it's quite late for me. I'm not one to regret many things but I do wish I had started learning earlier in life........ que sera sera! All the best for your swing and I will keep an eye out for your progress. Good luck, Matt -
I'm really working on my swing improvement (with evolvr) and play 1-2 rounds per week. My best round is 96 around a short course, SSS of 67. I don't feel confident enough to use any of my woods or hybrid so my 4 iron is the longest club I use. My ball flight is generally a cut with the longer irons due to my OTT swing. My average GIR is 20% and my putts per hole average is 2.0. Clubs - Ping G10 - 4-SW and 18° Hybrid, Taylormade 3W What if anything should I purchase or do next to aid my progress. Thanks

My target for the next week is to get closer to the green line below!

Hi Chris, @sk golf (Stephan at evolvr) has got me working on the same drills that you are currently doing. Yes, you will feel and look more over the ball at the top of your swing if the left shoulder moves slightly down and round, matching your spine tilt. I've always struggled with my torso lifting during the backswing and the picture below really sums up what I need to try and achieve. Good luck with your progress! Matt

Do you go to the practice range before every round?
Huddo replied to Scotsclaff's topic in Golf Talk
I don't bother with the range as I don't want too many swing thoughts before I start my round. A few putts and stretches to loosen up then I'm off. When and if my swing becomes more reliable will be the time I feel confident enough to hit the range pre round. -
Thanks for your kind comments, my swing is slowly getting there! Evolvr, Stephan and the folks on here really make a difference as I'm sure you know. Totally agree with the left shoulder down, helps to maintain a good pivot. I'm not sure if I've got the flexability for a faster backswing though! I've got a dodgy shoulder and back which is why my body wants to lift up......to ease the strain! Good luck with your progress also.

Whoever said Golf was hard, well they were lying..........................it's bloody hard! I guess that's why I'm hooked to try and improve. Here are my latest videos sent through to evolvr. My priority areas are; Stop lifting the torso during the backswing Reduce the backswing length Less of a cupped left wrist at the top of the backswing Key #2 is going to be tough. I can't seem to get a consistent transition to initiate the weight forward. I have faith in Stephan though! Thanks for watching.

Hi Pete, weather looks favourable for Friday which is a bonus. I will book the tee, obviously with you on the white's and me on the ladies.....you will still batter my 4 iron though! See you at 10.
-
I've put my rounds so far (5) onto an excel spreadsheet to monitor my progress. The average for the 5 rounds is 99.8, which is not a bad start to my Golfing career......well at least I think so! My putting average is 2.0 and my GIR 20% - probably due to my lack of distance off the tee currently. Interestingly, if I totalled up all the best scores for each hole, I would shoot a 79...........if only it was that easy! Going for another round tomorrow before my shootout with @Nosevi on Friday! I'm looking forward to watching a low handicapper in action, and I will hopefully learn a few things along the way.

My local course started out as a 9 and later devoloped into a full 18, with the current first 4 and last 5 of the 18 making up the original 9. I've hit 37 for the 9 original holes and 63 for the other, total 100 score for 18.....talk about extremes! The original 9 are all quite short though.

I
McIlroy is messing it up, in danger of making the cut.
I think he will miss it now.

I understand that the Masters has a different TV contract to the rest of the PGA schedule. What are the reasons they have more restrictions on coverage?
-
Quick update on my progress; My last round of 18 was a 97, as per previous rounds I blew hot and cold which is down to the inconsistency of my swing. Unless I had a great day with the putter, I believe that 95+ is probably my score ceiling, hence the need to keep practicing. Practice has been a little scarce due to the kids being off for holidays but I'm doing my 5 minutes per day in the garden - focusing on a feeling of a bowed left wrist at the top with a shortened backswing. I really want to nail down my key #1 so that I can start to work on the weight shift and hopefully address the OTT move. I will post a few videos over the next few days.

What a right pair........the photo bombers that is!
