  1. I don't know if anyone has ever had this particular problem or if it's a practice for equipment reps, but here's the story. Home course demo day a few years ago and was just killing a particular driver. It's a name brand, but to go on. After hitting close to a small bucket and as I said just killing it, I told the rep, I'll take this one. He said he couldn't sell the demo club, but could order the same one from the manufacture. We went round and round as to it won't be the same, I'm killing this one, why can't you just order a replacement and make that the demo and on and on. Even offered to pay the retail price, but to no avail. For the life of me, I could not and still cannot grasp why. Anybody else have a similar situation or know why the rep was so unwavering?
  2. To set the record straight, my words were " If the Tour/PGA got behind it, I don't think it would be that difficult to find backing" That's a far cry from it would be easy to get sponsorship.
  3. Was gonna say, I'm surprised he made it past the snack bar............
  4. Nevermind..........
  5. The old saying "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder". There's lots of really good blades out there, from even as far back as the 70's or even further if your so inclined. For me, it's the 1980-84 Hogan Directors. Now if you wish to play a set of these or any of those folks have referenced, take a few things into consideration. The lofts are weaker, the shafts most likely are shorter and in truth the original shafts are most likely weakened by age and the may have rusted from the inside out. So by the time you re-shaft, re-grip and perhaps re-set to modern lofts, if your so inclined, you may be almost at the same price of new clubs, unless your able to do those things for yourself.
  6. On another thread, someone mentioned Tom Watson and how cleanly he picks the ball of the ground. So I was wondering just how many here do that and how many go down after the ball. I've seen some beaver size pelts on TV and it seems that most of the pro's do take divots. For us mere mortals, there's risks in either shot.........picker - thin/bladed shots / digger - fat city and even hurt your wrist. Now they say that a divots will talk back to you and tell you how your swinging. Well my divots act like politicians, they say one thing but the ball does something else. I found for me at least, that if I'm more of a picker, my target acquisition is much better, my ball flight ain't great but it goes the right way. So what's your preference...............
  7. I remember an interview that Ben Crenshaw gave years ago and one question asked was "What advise would you give yourself on golf?" He answered, "Go play like a kid, hit it, find it, hit it again"............in other words, get out of your own way. Kids don't overly think it out, they just go and do it and have fun doing it......
  8. Here's my story. Had that double laminectomy (L3-4) and was back playing in roughly 2 to 3 months. I did not want to rush anything. But now here's the kicker. All my golfing life I always played a controlled fade. I tried to attempt to learn a draw, but to no avail. Since the surgery, all I can play is a draw, which sometimes turns into the every favorite snipe hook. I think I know why this transition happened and that's because my subconscious wants to make sure I don't hurt the back again. I've attempted to make the same swing I did with the fade, but the back just won't take it. Now this may not happen to you and you may already play a draw, but if not, don't be surprised if you develop one.
  9. Notice on that video, the guy making the swing take notice of the position of the right elbow in relation to the body.
  10. OK, we'll take you off the ticket mailing list
  11. "when I tee it forward any more than inside my left heel I duck hook it something wicked!" Didn't want to quote all of that post. From that explanation, I'm making an assumption here ---- It sounds like you have a very strong grip or your rolling the shoulders or a combo of both to a degree. Either way, the club face is being drastically closed at impact. If there's a way for you to post a video on here, I'm sure the folks here will be more than helpful.
  12. I stand corrected gentlemen, no problem from this side of the fence. I understand the aspect of players having to adjust to the equipment aspect, just didn't take that into consideration, because I surmised it would only be viewed as a fun offering for charity. I still think it would be interesting to see what would happen. I'm fully aware it will never come to pass, but that doesn't stop me from a what if.............
  13. To quote iacas "I truly believe that golf has a deeper more talented overall field now. Perception would be that the equipment would make the pros play worse and would give the impression that the only reason they shoot good scores is because of technology of today's game. The pros on tour are extremely talented." I'm sorry, but to me it's a contradiction twice within the context of your post. Either the pro's are extremely talented or it is the equipment. With the exception of the ball itself and the sometime debate about it going to far, the main difference between today's blades that pro's play and those blades of the 80's and 90's is stronger lofts and longer shafts. If you've never played with a wound balata ball, well it's been said they have a mind of their own. Far less perfect than the new balls on today's market. Now I even would not want to see hickory shafts and gutta percha balls, that's a whole different arena. Golf courses are already set up with multiple tees so nothing super exaggerated needs to be done. It could be an end of year 2 day charity event and I'd bet after the first offering, we may be surprised as to how it's received and to show just how far modern day equipment has taken us. There's a couple of events that are televised (the Sharks shoot out, the Father and son Challenge, the CVS multi tour format and there's most likely one or two more that don't come to mind right now) If the tour/PGA gets behind it, as they do I'm sure for those other offerings, It shouldn't be to difficult to find backing. As for getting equipment, we'll just go to Mr. Palmer's garage. Even if it was a once only deal, wouldn't you be curious to see?
  14. Forgot to mention that Woosie is the same height 5'4"
  15. http://www.woosie.com/bag This may be of help and then again it may be all wrong for you. But what it's showing is that proper fitting is a must.
  16. Tom, there's two different swings within the makeup of an individuals swing. The driver swing is one that is supposed to be sweeping the ball off the tee and the irons are more of a going down into the ground. We leave, or at least most leave divots with the irons (some I realize pick irons cleanly), and for some, taking a divot with fairway woods is also the norm. From your explanation, it sounds like your putting your iron swing on your driver.
  17. Perhaps you may have the ball to far back in your stance. Greg Norman put the ball up off his left toe and some times a little past there. Couldn't hurt to give it a try.
  18. It's weird quoting my own post ------ Played or rather attempted to play 9 holes today using Speith's reverse overlap. That lasted all of 4 holes. I don't see how he does it and I don't understand how well it worked on the range yesterday. He must have spent lots of time with it or it was his original grip to begin with. Talk about the right hand taking over the swing. Just about every shot was an over the top pull or fat city. Well at least it was an interesting try...........so that's my story and I'm sticking to it.
  19. Dr - ("A" Flex) 230-240 3wd - 215-220 5wd - 190-200 4 Iron - 180 5 Iron - 170 6 Iron - 160 7 Iron - 150 8 Iron - 140 9 Iron - 130 W ------ 120 - 125 GW ---- 105 - 115 SW ---- 90 - 100 These are consistent yardages that I can play from with confidence. I'm old school and still use a 1980 Hogan Director Iron set. I've tried new(er) clubs, but the yardages where all over the place. Had a set of Wilson Staff Fat Shafts and I was hitting the PW over 150 at times. Super major gap between that wedge and the SW. Also tried TM Burner 2.0 and again yardages were like a lottery ticket. Like Dirty Harry said, "A man has to know his limitations"...........
  20. Would you like to see today's pro's play an event using balata balls, persimmon woods and same era irons? Could be a televised charity event. Personally, I think it would be very interesting, listening to Miller and company making comparison remarks.
  21. Started out with the baseball grip way back when, then as I progressed went to the Vardon overlap for about 45 years, until I developed a pain full knot on a finger and was forced to switch to interlocking. Been using that until yesterday, when I read about Jordan Speith's reverse overlap. Went to the range and was very surprised, at how well it felt, but more importantly, how it gave me a controlled fade back. Until this, I could jack knife just about any shot left, at the most unfavorable time. Just have to wait and see how it does on the course, but it felt pretty good.
  22. Jack Nicklaus did 2 things with his putting and this from something that was printed years ago in a golf mag. Jack putts with a slightly open stance. When asked why, he said because it let his dominant eye take over. The second thing was getting the line. When he saw the line, he then kept a visual on that line and brought it back to about a foot from the ball and then he focused on a particular spot on that location. He said he could then look back at the hole to regain the length aspect but then went right back to that spot 1 foot away. Jack also used a shorter length putter. Could this work for you? Possibly, but like anything in golf, practice and make it your own. There's lots of different putting styles, grips, putter lengths and so on and so forth. Find yours, not the other guys. The biggest aspect in putting, at least for me, is confidence when the putter is in your hand. Spend more time on the practice green, with the club they all call the great equalizer.
  23. There could be several reason as to why, but I'll offer one. If, operative word here "if" you bring the club inside on the back swing, you may be standing to close to the ball at address.
  24. http://www.gigagolf.com/certified_preowned.jsp Hope I'm not in violation of any rules by offering this link.
  25. From that first link that was offered. Knuth had an independent outfit test a selection of competitors and the High Heat, using a robot to hit balls. Knuth said the High Heat tested longer than every major brand model except one. Love to know what that brand was......................
