  1. the end is coming...man isn't to know the exact date, which is the way it should be....what we DO know,is that Prophecy was fulfilled in 1947...it was fore-told thousands of years ago,and it came true( as all prophecies have to date). the only calendar/time reference that effects us is : when the time of the Gentiles is filled?? you figure that one out ,then add 7 years, and you've got your answer to when it all ends...but don't waste your time,we will never know the answer.....
  2. I can remember all campaigns from 1964 on.....nothing really has changed in the way the sides go at each other for votes, and neither has the negativity changed from each candidate towards the other. The news outlets have always spun their own agendas into campaigns, so that is nothing new, either. What IS new is the total weight of American debt this nation is under, with no hope of ever getting out fro under it. That's bad news for whomever wins the election, as neither can stop what's coming. So I look at this election like this: who REALLY cares who's sitting in the Captains chair while the USA-Titanic sinks???? hmmm? for you see, the iceberg has already been hit..the damage is done...the best economists in this nation have already said we're going under.....fighting for the head seat at the table is a moot point........I think it's time to play another round, might as well enjoy the trip.
  3. interesting fact is, that according to many PGA teaching pros, the handicaps have not truely risen over the past 20yrs..even with newer technology being introduced along the way. that tells me something: it's the Indian, not the arrow. It also is a fact that thousands upon thousands of golfers are quitting the game every yr for the exact same reason: not improving to enjoyable levels. Is it the instruction? is it the instructors? is it our limitation of time constraints on practicing? Could it be that we have an predestined amount of skill that cannot be improved upon one we reach our max? Is our egos preventing us from playing smartly on each hole? Could our expectations exceed our abilities, thereby causing extreme frustration ? I understand wanting to be the best we can be, but it's difficult to accept,as humans, our short comings..at anything. As a woodworker, I know I want to produce magnificent pieces of furniture, but my talent never allows that level of quality....should I lower my expectations while applying more effort to improve? I think that what has happened to the game of golf. we see magnificent shots from the Pros on Tour, and believe that with enough practice, we can duplicate that feat...not sure that level is attainable by most....I've watched as many videos on hitting the ball as anyone..have taken lessons from multiple instructors( all teaching differently, btw) and have come to conclusion, that it's better to accept the level I'm at,while trying to improve, than to push on bull-headedly, and incur immense frustration at not acheiving the level I think I should be...I have no quarrels with improvement driven practice but perspective is always the better teacher. at the end of the round, it's all about satisfaction being around friends, and enjoying a beautiful day on the course....unless you're playing for $$ or trophies, it won't matter in a week what you shot, in the grand scheme of your life.
  4. next time I head out to Moorefield to play with my pal, I'll let you know and you can slip over...takes me 90 min to get there from here, but worth the drive....
  5. those figures are from 2014,as far as decline of courses go....not the 90s..... courses are closing to an astronomical rate compared to those openning. anytime you lose 10 fold in 1 year, the signs aren't good.
  6. after reading 10 pages I gave up trying to read the entire thread..I feel sorry for the Pros who lost jobs..know what that feels like.I feel amny of the posts/opinions about economics are spot-on...here's why: http://www.turfnet.com/page/news.html/_/construction-play-number-of-golfers-decline-in-2013-r249 you can't have one slip and not the other..they are tied together. I don't recall hearing many stand up against Walmart when they drove hundreds of Mom/Pop stores out..and they did very effectively. I grew up when ALL stores were retail specific; clothes,furniture,jewelry,food,etc..now most are under one roof.I am all in favor of saving $$,and I will continue to buy ONLINE so I can get the most for my budget. I never buy new clubs, buy bottom end bags, and even buy pre-owned clothes/shoes for golf.. I wore hand-me-downs my entire childhood up thru high school, and have no problem in that category. I'm retired on a fixed income, but I'm better off than my kids/grandkids will be when they're old enough to retire. As for the PGA, I took lessons from a youngster right out of the Academy in Fla, at my local course.....he told me all about what it costs to be a PGA Pro...seems as tho,at least to me, they're outta sight in how many thousands of dollars it takes EACH MEMBER/EACH YEAR to retain the status....not sure THAT'S helping the Pro, but they are the ones who were most effected by Dicks decision,so I'll leave that to them. read the article and see whats' ahead......
  7. golf's hard enough w/o worrying about some cork-sniffers house....thats' why I prefer to do woodworking..less stress
  8. how come I hear noone saying these same things about Zach Johnson/K.J.Choi/others who've openly given Thanks after a Victory ???? huh ???????? Bubba is not alone in his beliefs, and that's why he/they will ALWAYS be sucessful on/off the course. Bubba is Bubba, and I like that.
  9. talk about oxymoron??
  10. you have a right to your belief, that does NOT make it correct. When you PROVE that mankind was made from the "Big Bang", then you'll have my attention. AFAIC, that theory takes more "faith" than what I've stated.!
  11. I can track my shots with a yard stik....
  12. Opequon Country Club went under last yr.....
  13. yep,but some think they're close,tho....
  14. hmmm... must be the only Mountaineer here.....thanks for the invite, and welcome any/all for a round here in WV(Eastern Panhandle).. we have a few nice courses locally: The Woods/Locust Hills/Sleepy Hollow and my Favorite Cacapon State Park..very loooong,a Robert Trents Jones, Sr. golf course. very nice. Thanks once again
  15. people lie, or exagerate, due to one reason: self importance. Some call it ego,but it's the same. "Don't think more highly of yourself (or your results) than you ought to" .....sound advice from 2000 yrs ago. honesty and integrity are the ultimate assets to posses, even beyond the ability to hit 300 yd drives. it' really is a Spiritual issue.
  16. age has alot to do with it as well....younger folks learn quicker, can adapt quicker, and have more energy to play. as one who never picked up a club until my late 40s, i can say, without reserve, that younger = better..show me one Pro,including Champions Tour, that started in their 40s... won't happen.
  17. I'm trying... I have a boy next door, whos' story would bring you to tears. thats' a fact. 10 yrs old and NEVER played baseball,Basketball, or ANY sport...why? because of the way his homelife was...Mom and sisters killed in a car wreck several yrs ago,his father was a druggie who contracted AIDS,then turned Homosexual(he could have been Bi- before the wreck, who knows),and abandoned the boy. This was in south Carolina.. he's now living with his Aunt, whos' raising her 2 kids alone. Can you imagine being him ??? we've taken him under our wing,so to speak, and will do whatever we can to help build a normal life(if there is such a thing). I have a hitting net in my yard, where I practice, and I noticed him watching me from his porch the other day. Invited him over and gave him a Jrs club that I bought for the Grandson(he never took up the game)and showed him how to grip the club. Iwas given one of those practice "clubs". with a a weight on the end, teaching proper grip, now it's his. I plan on taking him to the local course(on a scale of 1-10,it's a 3), but good enough to peak his interest. trouble is, I'm not "good" enough golfer to give him proper instruction, and can't afford to pay the $50/hr our locals charge. I really wish I could,too.. Please remember Andy in your prayers..please.
  18. time and money..being retired I have more of one than the other, but both are pulled in a 1000 different directions.......
  19. keeping on topic: Bubba is Bubba. You are you. I am me. Character "flaws" as previously stated, are inherently individual, and should remain that way. Do I like Bubba? yes. Do I like his attitude ? irellevant. I was drawn to Golf by the image of the game, not the players involved. It has been and always will be about the GAME, not the players.,as the players are NOT the game. Time for all golfers to focus on the game and how we can grow it, instead of spouting why we love/hate a certain player or players. As for Religion,God owns the Earth, including every course under the Sun, and should never be eliminated from them. He gives the ability..He gives the finances to pursue.. He provides the scenery...He provides the weather(altho not exclusively)...He also provides the health to pursue. Courses are not church buildings with pews, however, that doesn't mean players can't acknowledge the previous facts stated ON the course. the 1st Ammend. gives anyone that right. As for how Bubba talks to his caddie, that's between him and his caddie, noone else. Bubba is NOT perfect, nor can he walk on water.Remember that and this: "Judge NOT lest Ye be Judged". that's clear enough for me.
  20. I have sat tv now for 1st time ever....saved alot of money over the past 30 years!! as for GC, it's in a higher cost package that I will NOT buy. I've watched GC @ my brothers ho use before, and was not impressed with it AT ALL. it's pay-for TV that isn't worth the money...sorta like most of this low-end sat tv,,utterly worthless. I'd rather read a good book about golf/golfers,of which there are many. it's 3* this morning, and my golf balls are under a foot of snow..... glad I brought the net in .
  21. Thanks for your service,my friend..and IIRC, Tiger trained w/ the 82nd for 2 weeks back a few years?? that wasn't exactly summer camp...all that helpsto develope a strong mind.
  22. what explains that is using a driver off the tees, just because the others did, instead of playing smart with irons and playing in the short grass. be to be fair, I haven't played but 1 round in over 1.5 yrs(and that was a scramble)... i wont play again until i know where the balls going(most of the time). I've worn out 2 nets, 3 mats, and a grassless patch in my yard. I hit balls every day, regardless of weather.(ever hit @ 5 AM on a 20* mornin?..it'll wake ye up!!). I ranged my yardage @ the local range last week...I'm almost ready to hit the course for an updated(and smarter played) round for a new HC.
  23. what he endured(at his own hands) would have crushed many, many "ordinary" men. the pressure brought to bear by his sponsors, especially those he lost, is beyond what most could comprehend. His Elitist status was placed upon him at a very young age by his father, molded over a very long time. That was very hard armour to wear down, most don't have that time -encrusted advantage. He's a lucky man, that he didn't end up on the wrong end of criminal activity doing what he was doing. But he's human and his Delila cut his hair..we all know how that ended. I admire his tenacity on the course.. I love his now dealing with age/health issues while trying to maintain the same level of play...very hard to do, yet hes' trying. Tiger was good for golf, still is, but now many who wore rose-colored glasses will get the REAL picture of how human he really is.
  24. ..am I the only lover here? great clubs, and a total farce about them being un -hittable...plus you can get 'em pretty cheap!!
  25. both are better sets than most start with... that said, it's the Indian, not the arrow.
