[QUOTE=Elvisliveson;296128] you're right!! what's one or 2 more strokes? I mean,really?... it don't matter... heck, I'll add 4 styrokes to keep people from getting their panties in a knot... it don't matter to me. 115..119.. 125... what's the difference? I don't care... now, if I were playing for,say...MONEY...well... that'd be a different matter...but I'm no fool.

exactly right.. I DON'T wanna beat up the clubs I have. they are vintage,in very good shape, and I plan on keepin' 'em that way. scoring well isn't as important as having fun, and keeping my clubs in the same condition as when I got 'em. I don't play but 4-5 times a year. at 4-800 dollars for a new set of clubs, that's $$ that I'd rather spend on woodworking machines. you may be able to do that, and I applaud that, but I'm not risking it... read my response above. I don't abuse the ball movement rule, but I'll move the ball if it means risk damaging my clubs.I'd do it when playing with Tiger,or anyone else.I'm there to have fun, not competetion. I totally agree, and will always hit from any grass, redgardless how thick/tall. I always count my strokes when I hit outta bounds, etc.and have no problem with doin' it. if I played in tournaments, then I'd be obliged to obey every rule, and I would, but I don't play in tournaments( except for a couple scrambles in the past, where you PLACED the ball whereever you wanted near the captains choice spot.. and that was always on good grass). I just wanted people to know that not everyone is playing the game for the same reasons...it's a way to have a little fun..a little commraderie... and to forget about work for a few hours.I'm not there for the game of golf, the game's there for ME...I appreciate how the purists feel towards the game, and Bless 'em for it...however,they shouldn't expect everyone to share their attitude towards the game. different strokes for different folks.

I can't see where scraping up your clubs adds to improvement, nor do I see where moving a ball to a hittable spot causes lack of improvement. I haven't seen too many golfers able to get a clean hit on a ball lying in hardpan,it only hurt their club sole. I'm talking HARD dirt w/ rocks & gravel..that's what's on our local course. the only thing harder is the road I drove to the course on....
-
I'm with ya!!!
-
yes, but only if it's lying on hardpan dirt. that may happen once/twice per round. I'm not a pro, I'm playing for enjoyment. my score,in reality, isn't good anyway,so why not protect what little clubs I have.it's about the enjoyment at my level, I'll leave the purists to strictly obey the rules. kkudos for them for it,it's just not that important to me.

WELCOME !! ..and Ford makes the better truck...

when its' for $$, I think Tiger has the right idea. if ya gotta talk, talk with your caddie.even tho it's not golfer against golfer as much as it's golfers against themselves, staying focused(or impeding others' focus) could be the difference between birdie hole and bogeyed hole. plenty of time to talk after the round... thats' my 2cents

as a vet, I realize that servicemen/women can't have an "official" opinion on their elected officials.saying something negative in an official capacity would spell doom for their career at most, and cause grief for them at least... only civilians are allowed to "speak their minds",whether it be in humor or dead seriousness. Personally, I'm glad someone is trying to convey the troops' mind, and knowing many Iraqi vets, David Feherty may not be too far from the truth.it was said in the wrong fashion, absolutely, but may not be far from those feeling from troops on the frontline. Congress has always been the Achilles heel to the military,in regards to mission objectives and tactics. ""Wow, as a soldier ... this just blows my mind. A soldier would never speak this way about members of congress, at least to a media man. It's actually covered by the Uniform Code Of Military Justice. Disrespecting members of congress is a punishable offense. Obviously, most of my buddies lean to the right ... but they're not insane. I can't believe that guy ... "" thats' only one soldiers remark...one of many...using this lone quote could lead to bias.however, this particular joke was in bad taste, and should not have been told.

I watched the Players yesterday, and saw many pairs chatting between shots, while walking the fairway. I notice that Tiger and some of the other Pros don't ever do that... what's your opinion on that issue?
-
I see the JD issue has two sides, just like all issues. you have the elitists with their puritan ideals, and you have the commoners with their forgive-and-forget ideals...sorta live and let live. remember, only JD has to pay the price for what he does, which from what I read here is totally legal. his wife dealing drugs could be easily withheld from JD, seeing as he's on the road/spending time on the course/range/endorsement obligations/etc., but even there, he's paid the price for it. as a human being dealing with demons, we should be supportive, regardless of how many times he stumbles. he hasn't killed anyone.. he hasn't stolen money from anyone. all the cash he's "blown" was his to blow, not ours..not the PGAs..not anyones.we can have an opinion as to the wisdom of those actions, but to judge him.... well.... as the Good Book says" let he without sin cast the 1st stone". from a golfing perspective: I hope he competes well.... from a personal perspective: I pray he overcomes those demons....

I hear that... we haven't had quail here in 25 years or more... used to have lotsa grouse, too, but they're dwindling.... never had a whole lotta pheasants..a few.. but haven't seen one in ages....
-
yep... have one in mint condition...fantastic weapon!!
-
would you believe that cigs used to come in every C-ration meal? yep... 4 cigs in a pack...matches too !! they were about 30 years old and hard as rocks... when you're young, and 7000 miles from home, you may find yourself doing un-normal things.... that's where I started smoking, and it really wasn't THAT hard to quit....ate fireballs to keep my mouth "busy"....some use other candies, but fireballs worked for me....we won't talk about what the sugar coulda done...

"Israel must be wiped off the map" (source).. I think thats' pretty closed to interpretations...it means what it says, and the Iranian prez said it..multiple times.....they currently do not have the means to do that.....yet, and thats' the only thing thats' prevented it thus far Israel was given back land that was already theirs...everything thats' happened to that nation has been done under the guiding hand of the Creator. the fact remains that Israel was given that land(and had it taken away as well). the Book clearly states that Israel would become a nation again, and would return to her lands, the Temple WILL be rebuilt in Jerusalem,as before. whos' the biggest opponent to that happening? yep, the Domed- Mosque occupying people in Jeruslaem...namely the muslims. the tension you speak of can be directly pinpointed in it's origin, concerning Abraham/Sarah/Hagar... do some research and you'll see why they've been at odds for many, many centuries... as for what our soldiers did/didn't do in Iraq...(and VietNam/Korea/France/Germany/Phillipines/many other theaters of war), I'll take the word of soldiers/Marines that were there, and I've had the honor of talking to more than about anyone on this forum. I work for the Dept of Veteran Affairs Medical Center, and what I've been told is nowhere near what the media has tried to convince. bad things have happened at the hands of our troops, yes, but nowhere near the scale the biased-media wants you to believe.they only want to sell "news", they don't care about how unbiased, or even factual the stories may be.every corespondent has an agenda that they serve, and they really don't care about whether our military is being sucessful in their operations.... like the song says about the news.." give us dirty laundry". how sadly true. you wanted evidence to back up my previous posts... not a problem: evidence for N. Koreas' aggresivness: the nearly total invasion of S. Korea in 1950....with the help of China as their military might, they nearly defeated the Rok and US armies... we beat 'em back and still hold firm at the 38th Parallel. remember that NO PEACE TREATY was ever signed, only a cease fire( because China backed out).. so technically, we're still in a "conflict" on that penninsula. the media back then were with the soldiers, fast forward to 1965-75 in another divided country( Viet Nam) and you'll see China(and Russia) once again being the backing nation of the North and the US backing the South... only this time the media were NOT with the soldiers..and we see where that led...the power of the media has strong influence. Evidence of Iran: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iranian_Revolution this led to the hostage situation when Pres. Carter was in office, due to the fact that we weren't conservative in our beliefs, that we had gotten Iran into the industrial age(which is anti-Muslim at it's basic foundations), it led to future sabre-rattlings from Khomeni against Israel( and her allies).. and that is still prevelant today,as evidenced in Iranian rhetorical comments from it's Gov't concerning Israel. their exsistence today is wrapped heavily in conservative Muslim belief, which clearly states what the options are concerning dealings with non-believers or infidels as they're called. they do have a right to defend themselves, as they had to in the 1980-88 war w/ Iraq. no question about that... but they don't need nukes to accomplish that, as none of their neighbors have threatened to use nukes against Iran( except Israel, which they have and will use to maintain THEIR exsitence). the foreign problems America faces today are directly related to the fact that we are militarily superior to anyone, and that our interests HAVE to be protected..mainly OIL. not to mention that every weaker allie calls upon us in time of need.... -

WilsonWedgeMan replied to Lemay427's topic in The Grill Room
1st, I don't see the US solely targeting defensless civilians, like the bombers do.... they use lethal indescriminate tactics to disrupt and punish those that in any way oppose their beliefs. they do NOT tolerate diversity of religion, in any way, shape, or form.not only must you be a Muslim, but you MUST be of their sect to be allowed any acceptance. we've had nuclear capabilities since 1945, and have used it only to end WW2. not once has it been utilized against ANY nation. thoise "others" you speak of would not hesitate to use that destructive power to further their agendas. anyone who honestly believes that N.Korea or Iran(and subsequently other MidEast Arab nations) wouldn't fire off a missle onto any one of their enemies is living in a dream world. they know no other way than to use whatever might they can muster. our having nukes, or overwhelming firepower, is the only thing keeping N.Korea from another invasion to the South. Once they have nuclear capabilities, they won't have the same amount of hesitation. same applies to Iran, in their dealings with Israel( and Israels' allies). we use nukes in the same fashion that the Romans used their Armies... peace thru superior strength. that mindset will not be shared by other radical nations. their hasn't been real peace in the MidEast for centuries, can you imagine how things would escalate with Iran having nukes? same for Il's regime. -
spending money just to spend money, seems to me, to be the very reason we got into this mess....the object to financial security is get OUT of debt, not go in deeper.and with less disposable income now, spending that amount won't help much..they won't purchase the big ticket items that's needed to truely stimulate our economy. just my 2cents

I visited the link you provided, and see that it truely is happening elsewhere... but Good Golly Miss Molly, overwhelmingly it's in one certain area.....

Driving Irons????? anyone hit one?
WilsonWedgeMan replied to shankopotamus's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
ok... this will not set well with the masses.... but I carry every club from a 1 iron on up... I carry a driver,a Wislon FatBoy, but it stays in the bag in it's sock...yep, I carry it so my bag won't look odd...but I'll tee off with the 1 iron. I've only played twice this year, but I've driven the ball nearly as far as those Ihat I'm playing with, and they're using metal drivers. almost as far, when I hit it good... I just drove the green ,actually over the green on a long par3 the other day!! I'll admit that I need to practice more... alot more,in all honesty. but I LOVE hitting long irons. could I score better using utility clubs...maybe... but I cannot hit that huge driver worth a darn. so I have no confidence in any wood...hence, I don't own any.now I already can hear those who are better golfers than myself saying what those irons are costing me... yep... I know, but I don't worry about having a 1 or 2 handicap..I really don't. I see those long irons the same way I see my recurve bow, the only bow I own/hunt with. it's harder to master, yeah... it's not as accurate off the shelf as the newer hi-tech bows on the market today, but they're not for me. I have been sucessful with it, and I approach the irons the same way. harder..yes... but I don't wanna be like everyone else on the course. I accept the challenge of having to work harder to attain something. flame away.... -
Navy and Marine vets that I work with say it's done safely every day....I was in the Army, and have no experience with water transfers, so I'll take their word for it. as for completely stopping piracy, from what I read, it's only happening in one part of the globe, to the extent where ships are at risk EVERY DAY!!!! we CAN eliminate it with enough force, but the backlash from the PC followers would be outrageous.
-
a water hose against an RPG ? are you serious? the only solution is between two options: pay the pirates the ransom they ask and hope that no crew member gets whacked.... biz as usual so to speak, or stop the lawlessness by whatever means are at your disposal.there's are no "cheap" ways out of the circumstance. you hire armed guards/Mercs and place them on about 50% of the ships...let the pirates guess which 50% they're on.... they could easily depart upon entering the ports' boundries.... either thru helicopters or other ships stationed outside the boundries. but continuing to allow piracy for any reason, goes against what THIS country stands for... and whether the other nations care about that or not, is irrelevant... our ships..our crew..and until delivered, our cargo....noone should have the right to dictate anything concerning those items. international waters are just that..everyones, and noone has any more/less right than the next guy. if this was happening inside a countries boundry, then you'd hold that country accountable... since it's not, no holds barred.as far as I'm concerned, allowing/accepting piracy is as guilty as those who are doing the piracy, especially when you have the means to stop it, regardless of the cost.
-
I don't care how much money the ship owners have to pay outta their pockets, but the money never comes from their pockets. you'll find insurance is paying the money to the pirates, either directly or indirectly...the shipping companies won't lose because they'll recover it one way or the other... thru insurance claims or the raising of shipping costs...either way, they don't lose. now that blood has been spilled, rest assured that more will be spilled, especially for the French and American vessels. it's time to deal with the pirates, using lethal force. for it's now a new ballgame in those waterways.whats' odd, is that theres' not one of Somali's neighbors whos' concerned about the lawlessnes across the border. sooner or later, it's bound to spill over into their countries. and watercannons won't prevent what's about to happen to the crews from here on out...you cannot bargain with the lawless, regardless of why they're that way.

I hear alot of talk about Perry choking(and he did), but Chad Cambell had the tourney to win, or lose, after AC went squirrel hunting and Perry's nerves went ballistic... he was in the fairway, and all he had to do was hit the freggin' green.... just put it on the green.. anywhere...and he wins...but... the choke monster grabbed his glutes..... -

WilsonWedgeMan replied to Lemay427's topic in The Grill Room
I agree..too bad that's exactly what we've become to many, many smaller/weaker nations over the past 50 years...it started with the Korean conflict in 1950.... -
wait a minute fellows... in all seriousness.. the man has a right to print what he wants. the man has a right to dislike golf, or any other game he wishes. His opinions are worth no less than yours/mine, even if we disagree( and I do). his ranglings in a newspaper column are par for the couse in todays' media.. however, what I'm getting from reading subsequent posts on his column, are not par for the course. I know many of you should and will disregard( not disrespect) his opinion, especially when approaching the 1st tee on future rounds...maybe it's me, but I truely expect less "spite" from my fellow golfers... we ARE better than he's trying to portray us and the game we love. we can disagree without being disagreeable.... plus, we have the same right to send in letters to his editors in rebutal, as he does to write his column....may not get printed, but ya never know....
