What about the "one-prong?" http://www.pitchprogolf.com/how-to/ -
I like the http://www.thelocalgolfer.com/

The ones using the plywood boards are my favorite. Hopefully that field never needs to be cut/plowed or your balls will really be messing up some machinery :)

Yes and no...when I pay too much attention to the ball I end up trying too much to hit the Ball...ok you say "Brett, thats what you want to do!" But When I do this I end up changing my swing path and more often then not hit a very fat shot. If I look at the ball, but kind of think of it as more of a blur and in my swing path, I end up make much better contact. Same for me with baseball, trying to follow it the entire way you can try to make slight adjustments right before contact. Maybe its just me! don't get me wrong, I am not closing my eyes or looking forward towards my target prior to impact...but I definetly don't keep my eye on it the entire time.

driving distance in the winter
brettwasbtd replied to tuffluck's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
It can Help a lot. If the ground is frozen it can roll a long ways. A few years ago I played in 33* degree weather and it was snow flurrying. I hit my 3 wood which I averaged about 210 yards at the time on a Par 4 330 yard hole which was fairly straight. The fairway elevates to the center and then descends to the long green which is sloped back to front. I got a solid hit and as I went over the hill in the center of the fairway, I started looking for my ball which was no where to be seen - I then looked up to the green, the ball was at the very back of it... 350 yards or so haha. -
Camera has been having some problems so I haven't been able to film. But I have incorporated a shorter backswing and been work on the extensor action, and a stronger grip. In general I am getting much better contact and less dispersion/spray area in my shots. I will continue to practice and hope to have some updated video sooner than later. Thanks all!

Walking is huge, keeps you much warmer then if you ride. I keep hand warmers in the pockets and and under armour coldgear base layer with a long sleeve colored shirt over top.. If its still cold I have a snug fleece. Long johns when its in the 30s

I agree with your disagreement. This style of coaching doesn't work for everyone and I don't think it works for certain sports which leads to wisguy's post I have never responded to coaches yelling that, I have always been a very rational person and if calmly explained something I will do my best to execute. Yelling like this at first was scary and just mad me fearful of failure...which got my mind all up in smoke and I ended up failing. As i grew older I just learned to tune it out or greatly filter it. The best was on my High school baseball team where I rode the pine... after a loss the coach was giving a similar high and mighty speech and I just sat that listening without a care in the world...not my fault we lost cause I never got any playing time :) - It did suck having to run the extra sprints and stuff though haha.

Ya, if every hole everyone is waiting on you then it could be a problem, but that is probably the only time I could think it would be a big deal. I am cheap...I mean frugal :) so I like to walk whenever I can. More often than not when I play the course is all backed up so I am waiting at every hole so its no rush and walking is fine. I also sometimes think a cart is slower when I play with one of my friends - he often hooks while i often slice, always going off in opposite directions ends up in driving back and forth

Saw this group and thought I would join...I am a big homebrewer and therefore and even bigger beer nerd. I like a lot of styles, but a hop-forward pale ale or a robust porter are two of my favorite styles. Cheers!

Thanks all! This gives me a good bit to work on! I have always thought about trying to keep my left arm straight but hadn't thought about what the right arm is doing. I will post back when I have some progress. Much appreciated

Thanks, that makes sense and I will try to incorporate it next time I swing.

I've been Playing Golf for: 5 years on and off with no consistency (see my reintroduction thread ) My current handicap index or average score is: non existent....don't play often enough, but looking to change that My typical ball flight is: erratic The shot I hate or the "miss" I'm trying to reduce/eliminate is: fat shots I took lessons 3 years ago, the first few helped, the last really screwed me up. I then stopped playing frequently. Recently been watching a lot of Shawn Clements stuff online and I am a fan. I can hit my shorter irons ok and with some consistency, but I have a real hard time with any of the longer irons, woods and I rarely even pull out my driver Videos: No down the line shots, I will try to get some next time 6 iron - shots at 30 seconds and 1:10 (no editing software). first shot went straight about 150 yards second was about the same distance with a slight fade 5-10yards off target 4 Iron - multiple shots, most fat, combination of hook/slice

I have watched like all of shawn clements videos in the past week, so although my skills don't warrant commentary, I can say that it looks like you just aren't turning you hips enough and your body is getting in the way of the arms. Check out the medicine ball video of Shawn's as it forces you to get your body out of the way. For fat shots, Shawn encourages not making your ball the target as it will force you to try and come more down on the ball. He likens it to chopping wood with an axe, but if you focus on a target out in front of you, and your setup/club is positioned right, then the ball will be in your path as you pass through to the target.

I think a static fitting would be fine for now. Having a consistent set will help a lot. I used to play with a mixed bag of different clubs and it was always a guess sometimes as to what to use. I would look used or buy clones to keep the cost down.

So, as you can see from my profile, I was a somewhat active member of this forum in late 2008 and early 2009. At that time I was finishing up college at James Madison university and only had 9 credits (3 classes) my last semester. Needless to say I had a lot of time to pursue golf. It also helped that the local course at the time offered a $250 semester pass for students! I took a few lessons and would play 2-3 times a week. I was making progress and was on my way to breaking 100 in a round, but failed due to an on course injury - I had a 47 on the front nine, but on the 12th hole I hit a ball off the hosel and it somehow tore up the ring a pinky finger on my left hand...I finished the round with a 6-7 finger grip and shot a 104. Shortly after that incident I graduated and got a full time job and just didnt have the time (or $) to dedicate to golf. I am able to play with a buddy about 4 times a year, but my swing keeps getting worse. I have decided that I need to focus a little more time and efforts onto my swing if I want to enjoy my quarterly golf outings...and if I do maybe I will want to get out there more. I have been reacclimating myself to the swing and watching a lot of Shawn Clement's youtube stuff. I am a big fan of his teaching methods as I feel like I can swing a little more naturally using his guidelines. I took it out to the range and was instantly striking the ball better with my 6 iron, but the 4 still gave me fits. Gotta keep practicing. Anyways, just wanted to reintroduce myself! I am currently living in Maryland and working in D.C.

What are some things (IYO) every course should have?
brettwasbtd replied to Bump-n-MI's topic in Golf Talk
After the suggestion of others on this forum, I now carry an empty gatorade bottle that I keep in my bag. Only problem is that I can't get sand until I hit my first par 3. So I guess I would like a sand fill station by the clubhouse or first tee? I feel every course should have at least 9 holes that offer a high risk/reward through the use of doglegs, bunkers, blind tee shots, and water. The other 9 should be fairly what you see is what you get. Just my opinion though. -
Baseball causing me to slice my driver?
brettwasbtd replied to brettwasbtd's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
I do have an interlocking grip. I will definitely try and focus on my shoulders more -
I know that nothing will be better then for me to get a lesson, which I plan on doing in a couple of months when it is warmer, but I was wondering if anyone had suggestions for me. I slice often with my driver and can't seem to straighten it out. On my straighter hits I end up with a fade. I feel this is caused by me rotating my hips prior to my club face making contact with the ball, leaving the face open. If I try to focus on getting the arms out before turning my hips the ball does not travel very far. Anyone else have this problem and fix it?
-
So great ebay seller. I got the driver today and its SO much better. Even when I sliced it, it went straighter than with the old driver. The old driver would take a 70-80 degrees to the right where this is like 20-30 degrees when I slice. I also noticed that contact with the ball felt solid every time, where with the old driver it felt like I was hitting off the toe. Thanks again for all of your advice!

This is one piece of equipment that I really don't think hundreds of dollars can help you (although it may give you some confidence). If you practice diligently with your putter, you will learn how to put well with it. I truly believe you could putt well with a flat piece of metal attached to a pvc pipe if you practiced. IMHO putters should not break your bank. If you like a specific style of a putter, get a clone. As long as you can tap it in, it doesn't matter what kind it is.

Non Waterproof Golf Shoes
brettwasbtd replied to dagolfer's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
In the hunting section of WalMart you can find a $5 can of waterproof spray. I apply this to my FootJoy DryJoys once they start to soak a bit. Works for me -
Thanks for all the input! I ended up purchasing a TaylorMade Burner Bubble 10.5* driver with a regular flex shaft on ebay for $23. I will let you all know how it hits (or should I say how I hit it) when I get it. Here is the ebay item number if anyone is interested: 200296581934
