  1. Shot an 84 (40-44) on Sunday morning at the Brier Patch Golf Links in Beckley, WV. They've removed almost all yardage markers (except sprinkler heads, which are few and far between). That made it a bit rough. Beat the storms, but played stupidly aggressive a few times that cost me big. Like hooking two balls into the woods (deep, gone, not-gonna-find-it type woods) while trying to cut a corner. Really, I have to feel okay about an 84 with three doubles in a row on my back nine. Now if I can just play a little smarter... The Leupold GX-1 I ordered after the round should help with that. I promised myself I'd splurge if I came back from a bogey-bogey-bogey-bogey start and shot par or better the rest of the front. Par-par-par-par-par, I have a new toy, and my wallet is lighter.
  2. I am still kicking myself for not getting a nice set of Bridgestone J36 combo irons when I had the chance. They were sweet clubs, felt really smooth, and produced the ball flight I wanted. However, I was Mizuno blind the last time I upgraded my irons. To me, similar to the Titleist 735CBs that I got rid of to get my current clubs. I also love my Bridgestone J36 hybrid. Good distance, good ball flight. It's been chopped, tipped, and threw some lead tape on the head. Very good. In short, Bridgestone clubs are definitely worth taking a look at.
  3. I have finally made it back to TheSandTrap! Well, I've been in Southern WV for almost a year and man, just a little, tiny bit different than Nashville, TN. I still haven't made it to the Greenbrier (Old White TPC is a terrible name...), but it's on the shortlist of courses I need to play.
  4. Big fan of my SKB. Three trips so far and I can tell the case has not been treated well. Throw in a straight arm and wrap the heads to prevent rattling and presto! No worries!
  5. They are gorgeous clubs, there is no doubting that. I hit a few putts with the Cali Coronado the other day. It felt like a Scotty which, for me, meant it felt a little hard. Gorgeous club. Sounds nice. Felt like the other Scotty's. It's just not for me.
  6. 39-39 for a 78 (+8). Really happy with how I was striking the ball today. Only had two really unfortunate swings and was able to recover from them quite well. Just what I needed before my cousin's bachelor party in Vegas and probably two rounds of golf next weekend.
  7. I really enjoyed the Pro Combos when I played them. It was cheaper for me to get a set of used Titleist 735CMs than to re-shaft them or I would've kept playing them. Good feel, though I liked the 735CMs better... I would probably go with the 775s, all else being equal. But, in the end, I would go with the better buy. So, if you won't have to reshaft the Pro Combos but would have to reshaft the 775s I would buy the Pro Combos unless you just flat out prefer the 775s.
  8. Much prefer one of my Tilleys or a ballcap. Never been much of a fan of visors.
  9. Rife Bimini. A semi-impulse buy as I've been thinking about it for months.
  10. Despite it not being a goal, how about the one-handed flip towards the net before getting planted into the net? Dude's a gamer. I love me some Pen's hockey. I love getting to watch it as opposed to the Western Conference slag the Preds play; all grit and no skill.
  11. Shot a real turd of a 43 (+8) over 9 holes this morning. Beautiful weather. I just didn't have it. Could not hit a GIR worth anything (2/9) and couldn't get up and down to save my life (1/7). 4/7 fairways. Spent over an hour on the putting green and chipping green later in the day. Work and Standard Time are the bane of the golfing class...
  12. Only reason I'm considering moving away from my Mr. Beasley is because leo3 posted that Golfsmith is selling the Beasley in black for $60.... Great putter. Good weight. Very solid on pure strokes and the occasional mishit. Rolls very true.
  13. 77. Very happy with it as I haven't been on course in almost two months. Range time and backyard work clearly paid off. Finished in 2:45 without pushing hard at all. If I hadn't had somewhere else to be I would have played another 18.
  14. That's right up there with the guy I ran into down in Texas. Speeds up past a walking twosome (they were pretty good and playing pretty fast) in his cart and catches me and my uncle on a par 3. Stands on the tee-box staring at us, I putt out, my uncle waves him to hit up before holing out... well, the guy pulls it 30 yards dead left into someone's yard. Speeds past us to the next tee box ignoring his shot. The tee box was maybe 75 yards away and the ass didn't even acknowledge/thank us for letting him through. Proceeds to push his drive 45 degrees right as we're watching. Almost helicopters his driver into his cart, just flinging it slightly into the ground (twice) instead, before hopping in his cart and hauling ass off the course into the surrounding neighborhood. Oh yeah, this was on about number 12. And he was maybe 25, probably younger. What a schmuck.
  15. In terms of how long ago did I start, it's been probably 12 years. In terms of how many years have I actually played? I'm not even sure, but I do not think it has been the whole 12 years. Having actually played, I'm easily in the 5-10 group.
  16. Went in to buy a stiff arm, left with what I came for plus a pack of 50 zero friction tees and a white Adidas Titans polo. Did not leave with the Cobra S9-1 Pro D with a Motore F1 X-flex shaft that was on the used rack for $125. Not quite sure how, though... I even have a shaft I would throw in it if I didn't want to use the Motore...
  17. Golf is CLEARLY a tech thing. Club design, if I'm not mistaken, is almost all done with CAD and other similar software packages. I assume you are against video based swing analysis, too? Club technology has done more to change the game than GPS technology ever will. GPS is an advancement of the yardage book. And it is much, much closer to that old technology than new clubs are to their predecessors. GPS will not cause courses to push back the tee boxes or grow out the rough in order to counter it. In fact, many courses have embraced GPS technology because it speeds up play, even for the weekend hacker. Seriously, buddy, I'm a relative luddite when it comes to small gadgets and even I think you're just being an ignorant fool.
  18. Just got my SKB Standard (48x12) case via FedEx yesterday and I am really excited to use it for a trip to Houston over the Labor Day weekend. It seems quite sturdy from the shell to the latches to the TSA approved lock on the middle latch. My Sun Mountain Superlight 3.5 fits very well. But despite the padding on the top inside, I will be wrapping my clubheads in either a towel or bubble wrap (if I have some sitting around). I will post my reactions after my trip, but just wanted to see if there were any other experiences with SKB cases that I may have missed when skimming the travel bag threads on the forum. Everything I saw involved a decade-old bag still in use or some similar story, which I am quite encouraged by. This is an investment, after all.
  19. 40 (+5) on a sloooooow nine after work. Got stuck behind the last group in a high school match so, of course, it was the last girl's group. As a threesome they were two or more holes behind the next group (a foursome). Yikes. It was still fun. Just... slow...
  20. Shot an ugly 86 at a course I'd never played before (71.2/123, 6481 from the whites). Beautiful weather so it was hard to care too much that I started out triple-, double-bogey. Played alright after that. Irons just weren't working most of the day. Only missed one fairway on the back. Just couldn't stick my second shots... Mid-70s and sunny with low humidity in August? Wow! Absolutely perfect!
  21. What it tells me is that you need a dictionary... Calluses. Not calyces.
  22. A very, very slow 41 after work tonight. Took over 2.5 hours because of some stupid, stupid hackers... As far as I could tell, two of the foursome had never played before. The first two hole took 45 minutes or more. Just horrible. Played through them over #3 and then was caught behind a group of slow old men for 5-9. UGH! I HATE SLOW PLAYERS! Yet, somehow, the first three holes I played my best overall golf of the evening. At least with the last few I had the fact that I could barely see to blame...
  23. You'll really like the J33's. If I hadn't had my heart set on my Mizzzy's I would've bought a barely used set of J33 combos for, well, less. Great feel, great look. Can't go wrong with'em, IMO. Enjoy'em, man.
