  1. I love my Callaway X Hot 3 wood off the deck or off the tee and have confidence in it.
  2. I realize it's too late to help the OP, but this may be of value to others searching. On the north side of Orlando, the best value in my opinion, is Errol Estate in Apopka, and Magnolia Plantation is a great challenge for similar money, but if you aren't a good target golfer, you may spend some money on balls, as there is a lot of water! If you are willing to spend a little more, Timacuan is usually in better shape. I played Panther Lake at OCN yesterday and left feeling that it was over rated. I played Errol Estate in Apopka today, and had more fun, and spent less than half the money, although the course wasn't perfect and there weren't all of the amenities. Last week I played both Saddlebrook courses, and both World Woods Courses and would travel over that way, as opposed to playing OCN again. Or perhaps try one of the other courses discussed in this forum. I also enjoy Diamondback (in Destin if I recall) if you are considering down past Disney. Just my $.02
  3. Thanks for the reply, 5% it is. Positive thinking...fairways and greens...fairways and greens...
  4. Mods-sorry if this is in the wrong section, but I figured this is specific to Wolf Creek so this was the place to put it. Please move it if I made a mistake. I have an 11.40 AM tee time tomorrow at Wolf Creek! I currently play to a 13.7 Handicap on courses that are 68-70 rating and 125 or so slope and are in Florida. I will play from the white tee boxes. If anyone has any course management advice, please share it! Also, what would you expect to see distance wise from the altitude? Anything significant? 10% added? Less, more? I am stoked! Jay
  5. Bridgestone J36 Pocket Cavities!
  6. Take an old shaft and stick it in the ground on the toe line, with the grip in front, pointing to the target, about 2' off of the ground and 2' behind your back foot. Take away over the top of the grip. Bring the club head down below the grip on the downswing.
  7. I love my AP1s. I have Project X 6.0 shafts in them. Ball flight is high. I can generate good spin with them. I can hit a fade or a draw when I am playing well. I feel my mishits, and it feels good when I hit it right. I am also playing to a 19 right now. These clubs are certainly better than I am. I demo'd 5 sets AP1, G10, Burner, Cleveland, and X22, before purchasing these. I do wish that I demo'd something from Mizuno line. The only regret that I have is that I have since flattened my swing, and these clubs may be too upright for me now. Since they are cast, I don't imagine they will bend much, if at all.
  8. To be clear, I wasn't expecting the larger grips to fix a slice, that is a swing path and alignment issue that I am close to resolving. I did want to be certain that I answered the OP's question though and didn't in my first post.
  9. I have had similar issues, primarily when I am coming over the top and coming into the ground hard. It feels like the tendons are vibrating hard when my hands come to an abrupt stop, and the arms want to keep going. Go get a velcro style wrist band with or without the air bladder. They are similar to those sold for tennis elbow, but are for the wrist. They are 8-16 bucks. Pharmacies and golf shops have them. It has really help me if I end up coming into the ground hard. I hope this helps!
  10. I suppose I didn't answer the question. The larger grip did not cure my slice.
  11. jdjanda, I have 2xl hands, with long fingers. I use oversize grips and I have wondered if these are too small. Just a thought that I tried. Go to the golf/tennis store and get some overwrap for tennis grips. Wrap up the grip and try it on one club-It's non-adhesive so if it doesn't work remove it. After trying this, I think the jumbo Golf Prides are fine for me, although I will try to double up on the tape where the right hand rests (I am right-handed).
  12. Happy, I don't know Ben, but based on his handicap, and his posts on this forum, he would be considered a good player that has used iron covers. No idea if he still uses them, but the quote below is from page 1 of this thread.
  13. I use club covers. Not so much for the protection of the clubheads, but more as antitheft. I have removed all of my branded head covers, and replaced with less expensive branded covers, or no brand at all. Ram Driver head cover for driver, and plain black neoprene for irons. I don't leave my clubs often, but I believe a theif won't risk it if they believe the clubs aren't worth much.
  14. MiniMoe, I took your advice the other day, and wow...it helped me a ton! Thank you! I went to a 9 hole par 3 course, and hit my primary choice club, then clubbed up 2 clubs and tried to hit to the same place. I didn't keep score, and learned! It was nice because the course wasn't busy. Thank you! Enduro, for me, when I am in the slump and I try to focus on process, things get worse. Much worse. I am analytical by nature and am probably over-correcting. Compound this with the fact that I am new to the game so I don't have the knowledge or experience to properly identify the cause of a fault. You have inspired! I have jotted notes in the past, but they were usually mechanical in nature, such as "able to swing from the inside today, and struck the ball well, etc. I need to start jotting down the good shots! I will try the flashcard idea once I am able to identify my faults and fixes. I have a lesson next week where I can work on this. Thank you for the input!
  15. It's been almost two years since I drank. I had to stop drinking and tobacco for health reasons. Finding a hobby that didn't include drinking wasn't easy, but this game is it! So, I need to find some other method to relax and enjoy myself. Heimer, I hear ya, last week I felt that I didn't want to play anymore either. As others have mentioned, relaxing and focusing on the successes of the round can turn it around. Although, this takes a while to turn around for me.
  16. Thank you for the advice everyone! Nayfac-Sound advice for certain. Perspective certainly helps with regard to being happy on course. The key for me with this statement is "you have done so bad there is no point in continuing". It's funny actually. I was at this point last week. When I was at this point and took your advice, I I hit the ball rolled the putt decently. When I tried to concentrate on grip, target, alignment etc, it broke down...I would like to find the source of that breakdown. It sure seems to be a between the ears issue. ks8829 I also enjoy the practicing but I am not certain that I am practicing the right things, sometimes. I have taken lessons, and get it with the instructor there, but seem to forget a lot of it. I think I might try to take a lesson every month or so next year, and focus on practice tecniques. Titleist, there is probably something to losing my expectations. Does anyone have advice with regards to how to lose my expectations without hurting confidence? Focusing on progress over time will certainly help. It's easy to overlook this in today's society, with such immediate gratification. I suppose this is one of the things that attracts me to this sport. threedolphins, I definitely get your idea-the shot that keeps me coming back is, well, keeping me coming back! The more we play, the more of these memories we have to draw from as well! I also understand your point that the rounds might be cyclical, with ups and downs and understand that I can reflect on the good moments during the bad rounds to keep my spirits up. I also recognize that I shoot better when I am in a good mood. After thinking about it, probably overt-thinking it, it's amazing to me how much of a mind game golf is. Carl, Patience is something that I have, unless there is disregard for pace of play, or course condition (dragging feet on the greens, littering etc). I'll try the breathing to help me relax. I know that I need to try something! When I am frustrated it's difficult for me to get back in the game. lol, there are times I do that even when the round is going well...I still have some things to learn about course management!
  17. A little background. Up until late last year, I might have played 15 rounds in my lifetime (38 years old). For the past year, I have been playing/practicing 3-6 days a week with the exception of 8 weeks for a knee operation. My best round is an 86 and my average score is currently around 95. My putting average on the last 20 rounds is 2.0 with a low of 1.68. FIR is 36.5%. GIR is 24.2%. I am happy with where I am, for the time I have been playing. I have worked with an instructor on my short game in the past. Recently, I have been concentrating on feeling the pressure on my right index finger. Since concentrating on this, when I strike it well, it's better than ever, but I also have more fat shots and my misses are long, fat, or offline either way. The last two times out, I have felt like I am lost. Address hasn't felt right. The putts aren't dropping. Breaks aren't being read correctly. Balls are being lost. The scrambling is tiring. Did I mention the missed putts? Oh yeah, and hitting it fat. My confidence is waning. It's tough to make it fun because I have issues with comptitiveness, and I am not meeting my expectations. Please help! I want this to continue to be fun! How have you gotten out of a slump in the past?
  18. LBlack, When you state that you still see no evidence that it makes a difference, are you talking about spining the shaft itself, or are you talking about the rest of the crap?
  19. Given your budget you would be in a V6 in the Camaro which isn't a bad idea, if this is your first car. Performance is still good. Same with the Mustang V6 , and you might be able to find an 08 or 09 Mustang GT in that price range. Don't be afraid of a leftover if they are going to work on the price for you. I don't know much about the Lancer. The Sky is a great 2nd carbut will be cramped as a primary vehicle in my opinion. I believe that you should also consider the Cobalt SS and Subaru Impreza. Sept/Oct is typically the time where you will find the best deals. Good luck and keep the rubber side down!
  20. Clubs that are designed in CAD, or produced on CNC machines have much to do with computer technology. Of course GPS is different than clubs altogether, however, the level of technology in clubs and GPS is similar in my opinion. Yardages are available to me without a GPS. Using a GPS is a timesaver for me. It also helps tremendously when it comes to determine how far I am hitting it on a given stroke. I have a couple of holes that must not be mapped properly. I am using a 2.5 Lite. For instance, I have a green 15' down, that plays longer than the GPS yardage, and another green that is about 10' up that plays about 25 yards shorter than GPS yardage. This throws the old school character right in my face!
  21. I have the Rife 2 Bar and love it! I bought mine at Golfsmith.
  22. I do. Ram Driver cover. Torn colver with a 3 on it for my 3 wood. My hybrid cover is the only oem cover. I also have inexpensive black neoprene covers on my irons as well. No name on the bag.
  23. Looks like Callaway Knock offs. Found these links: http://www.thefreelibrary.com/%60%60.....-a0102598728 http://www.allbusiness.com/legal/leg...5722613-1.html
  24. Jim, As I understand it, with less offset your hands must turn more quickly in order to square the face at impact, as compared to a club with more offset. This is because the face of the club with more offset will not meet the ball as soon as it would if the club has less offset.
  25. I appreciate the concept and believe it would help me significantly with regards to identifying where my peak velocity is through my swing. However, the cost is prohibitive, at least for me. I would be interested in seeing this high tech device compared to a low cost alternative. For instance, a ribbon or strip of material attached to the end of the shaft. The ribbon's volume will increase with speed as well, and if careful with selecting the material, you can probably get a low hum, even at low speed.
