Thanks for the more compact posting. You do need to speed it up. I've gotten to the point where for drives and most fairway shots I don't even take a practice swing, the exception being trying to get a feel for a particular shot, and that's usually just an abbreviated swing. I really think on most shots practice swings are overrated, and abused more than almost anything else, by slower players (until they get to the greens!).

The point is, a lot of explaining to do to whom? This isn't Ryder Cup like intensity or beauracracy. Norman won't have to answer to anyone, and wouldn't care if he did. Good on him. The only criticism seems to be coming from American commentators, really no big deal.

If you are worried about not getting to count an 8 on a par 3 towards your handicap, I wouldn't keep one. The rule is probably there to speed up play. I can't imagine those rounds are making much difference in your handicap, if you're playing bad enough that you are taking 7s and 8s on par 3s, the round probably won't be included, anyway. You pick out the only example that arguably makes a difference, the par 3s, in the long run it won't matter. Sounds like a pretty trivial complaint.

How Would Some of Golf's Former Greats Compete on Tour Today?
flanagan replied to Happy Dragon's topic in Golf Talk
Predictably someone will respond because you generally don't have a clue what you are talking about, and this is no exception. I'll start and stop with Jack Nicklaus, in terms of athletes. As for the nerds, band geeks, etc., that's just plain stupid. -
You are unreasonably slow, most college basketball teams would average one possession each while you are still not hitting the ball. Can you try a smaller font?

Frank Nobilo said today on GC it was a coin flip between Scott and Sabbatini, and implied that Sabbatini would not have been a good team player. Sounded a little defensive to me, but if that's the choice, I could see Norman picking a friend.

LPGA Players Pose for ESPN The Magazine "Body" Issue
flanagan replied to Bo the Golfer's topic in Tour Talk
Only if she was naked, AND appeared on a show people actually watched(i.e., not that one). Recognizable athletes in cameos on shows that people actually watch really don't get that much publicity and usually come off pretty weak. -
LPGA Players Pose for ESPN The Magazine "Body" Issue
flanagan replied to Bo the Golfer's topic in Tour Talk
Norman, Stewart, Fergus, Jacobsen and Caldwell did it in a golf magazine back in the 80s. It was pretty lame, but if it's good for the PGA by all means let the LPGA give it a go. -
1. Play for less money 2. Ice that a few times a day 3. See a doctor in addition to that 4. It's only a game If only I could follow my own advice . . .

Who Plays Titleist AP2 Irons?
flanagan replied to TempoIsKey's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I play them and like them, although the project x shafts were definitely not for me, although it appears the S300 will be the stock shaft for the new model. I hit several shots on the range with a couple of the new ones last Sunday and really liked the look and feel, enough that if I were buying now I'd buy the new ones and not get a discounted set of the old. I didn't notice any difference as far as swinging the irons with respect to weight distribution between the new ones and mine, they flew great with an S300. Very nice irons. -
Who uses 4 wedges with 1/4 and 1/2 swings?
flanagan replied to hamletsdead's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
I play 4, but my "P" isn't really a wedge in my mind, so I feel like I'm just playing 3, starting with my 52 degree, which is my 100 yard club. I vow every year to do the measuring distance, taping the yardages to my club thing and blow it off every year just like I have this year. I pretty much know my full swing and half swing distances with my 52/56/60 and work with those. Our range is elevated (hitting everything to the landing area below)and the area where you can pitch to a hole and practice short game is uphill, so I don't really have access to a flat 100 yard spot to do this. Thinking of going out to the far end of the range late this fall when it's mowed down and no one's around to hit me, and putting out some markers and working on it that way. I know it would be good to do, just have to do it. Distance control is key, and I know my chances of achieving it are better with my wedges than any other clubs. -
Even those who generally support Norman will find plenty to complain about with him picking Adam Scott. At the same time, he's the Captain and they are his picks. Thought he could have chosen more wisely, but he's being loyal to a friend and hoping to motivate him, good enough reasons. Anyway, who will even watch or care? I schedule activities around the Majors, love Ryder Cup, watch golf endlessly, BUT the President's Cup has never captured my interest. If it's pouring down rain and I can't golf, I may watch.

So in closing, we can agree you didn't know what you were talking about when you started this thread.

I think identifying the course, location and time you were playing would have narrowed things down a bit more than pretty much anywhere in America, so I'm not thinking the person in question would have a clue you were talking about him, anyway. (I am assuming he's on the forum because that's a given, if he plays golf!) How do you know he is Korean? Anyway, I take you at your word, and don't question your intentions or character at all, just have a difference of opinion. Again, I enjoyed it, just observing that despite our best intentions, people of less good will and maturity/intelligence will find a way to take something innocent and turn it into something stupid, as did "young grasshopper" above.

Other than needing good shoes, what's the problem with the dew? Teed off Sunday 6:50 a.m., no one ahead, had a relaxing 15 minute break/snack at the turn, done at 9:35 a.m. What could be better?

Classic and great drill, by the way. When I first started taking lessons after 20 years of playing without any, this is the one drill that seemed to help me "get it". Helps with swinging back and through and not coming over the top, at least for me. In fact, I was so frustrated this evening I decided it would be feet together for at least two bags tomorrow.

I think Titleist drivers look suspiciously like a lot of other drivers out there, come to think of it, so do some of their irons, and those Vokey wedges look a lot like, well, a lot like wedges. Great point. There's not that much difference in the way most golf clubs look in general. I now have a Cameron. I liked the look, I like the feel, tested it against the comparable Ping and Odyssey models and like it better. It's worth it to me. I don't feel like I joined some exclusive club, just found a putter with which I am making more putts.

Strangely, I read the original post, which I enjoyed a lot having just suffered through an agonizing slow play experience yesterday, but wondered why the unnecessary reference to the fact the person in question may have been Korean, thinking probably no big deal, biting my tongue, then I get to this idiotic nonsense and know why I questioned that. It's not that the originator of this thread probably meant anything by it at all and I'm sure he didn't, but really, what difference did it make what his nationality was? If the guy had been Caucasian it likely would not have been pointed out. All it does is give people less intelligent a chance to pop off. By the way Kung Fu is a Chinese martial art, I'm pretty sure, not that it matters all that much.

Forward press and head cock....good or no?
flanagan replied to Msokol13's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
I think you mean you are rotating your head a little to the right, not actually cocking it sideways? -
It was good to see him finish a tournament the way he did. He really should have won at least 2 other tournaments I can think of, and a couple of others almost, but for some bad shots in the last round and/or the closing holes. He has had a great year, and although I don't get into the player of the year kind of stuff, he is deserving of consideration right there with you know who.

What's up with cart fees, even if you're a member?
flanagan replied to Happy Dragon's topic in Golf Talk
So, if you don't like the way it is done at your course, I'm sure the owners would discuss it with you. -
I think it's an interesting point and the swing video tells it all. I had someone at lunch trying to tell me how Stricker had no wrist cock, etc. and I was hoping to stumble on some video. Thanks. Clearly his wrists are cocked (he's no Sergio). To the eye going back, you don't see much in his takeaway when watching on TV, but look at the lag! He is no pendulum. It's his impact position I wish I had, the rest is getting there somehow.

I wouldn't put too much weight on that claim as a reason to buy Titleist fairway woods, not that you shouldn't buy them.

Thinking of replacing my SW for one with less bounce
flanagan replied to Sheekamoo's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
My 56 degree Vokey has 14 degrees, I don't really hesitate to use it from tight lies, although where I play we have really firm bunkers, so I use my 60 degree 95% of the time from those. It could be the sole width on your wedge that is making the effective bounce greater, or other factors. For example, my daughter finds the Ping Tour Ws set up and play better for shorter shots, than the U or S wedges that would otherwise have come with her G5s, and I agree with her. It may just be you need or would be more comfortable with a different style wedge(s), not necessarily the bounce issue alone. -
I would take a look in the articles/equipment reviews/articles on this site, I believe you'll find some helpful information on both.
