The season is ending down here and I realized one thing while I was playing this weekend... the golf here is terrible! I will of course elaborate on my statement and try to justify my thread. I feel that in MA, at least eastern MA/Greater Boston, we have an extremely limited selection in terms of courses. I recently played Shaker Hills, which has at one point been rated the best public course in MA, and while I sat in the fairways I thought to myself... is this course really worth $80 for a twilight rate. I ultimately determined that it wasn't and have come to realize that are really only three options that we have in this state. 1.) THE BEST The best courses here are obviously private... but honestly, you'll need 50 grand up front for an initiation fee and the clubs are incredibly tight with membership. They don't care how much money you have but rather who you are... essentially your social status is everything. - The Country Club - Boston Golf Club - Blackrock Golf Club - The International - Brae Burn Country Club - Charles River Country Club 2.) The Best We Can Do OVERPRICED public courses are a plenty here in Massachusetts. I am starting to think that many of these courses will be forced to lower their green fee's or go out of business as the rounds per year drop and our economy weakens over the near future. Now, some of these courses are great but their price tag is so steep that it's just a treat for normal golfers to experience once or twice a season. - Pine Hills - Shaker Hills - Granite Links - Red Tail - Blackstone National 3.) The Pits ... here's where the normal folks play. Our local muni's see a great deal of play and they offer very little if any education to its patrons concerning maintenance and care for the courses they frequent. It doesn't take long to teach people how to fix divots and ball marks... that included providing simple tools for repairing marks. If you only offer a 12 dollar tool a vast majority of people are going to pass and try to fix their mark with a tee. I personally believe that this will only hurt golf because it makes our rounds day in and day out miserable experiences. I have several friends who at one point reached single digit handicaps only to eventually quit due to frustration with course conditions and long, 5 and a half hour rounds. I have become frustrated because there seems to be no light at the end of the tunnel. I have family in Texas and Florida and they are constantly sending me emails with pictures of their local tracks that cost them 35 on the weekend and from what I see rival some of the best public courses here in Massachusetts. I guess I live in the wrong state... damn blue bloods!

which range finder is better
DDBowdoin replied to americanfighter's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
I could not have a GPS reader in my pocket... even the smaller versions feel like having a cell phone in there. I can't even play with another ball in pocket never mind a GPS device The one thing I love about a rangefinder is you don't have to rely on subscriptions or courses that are mapped. At least here in MA skycaddy is really only on the higher end public courses so you are limited in some way. -
+1 for a golf school when things are great they are great but I havent the slighest clue about the golf swing and am not able to make adjustments when things are going wrong.

but honestly does it really suprise you? People will always be racist, it's just a reality... this feel good about everyone and love each other doesnt really fly with most people. I live in a "blue state" which is aparently liberal and if I consider Boston a racist city I can't imagine what it is like in other more conservative regions.

haha my parents beat the crap out of me if I did anything wrong... I turned out great

oh boy... I'm sorry to say that whatever happens we're in trouble. Videos like that really bring you into the mindset of groups of people who are so brainwashed into a single set of values. I am just fearing because day in and out I constantly here people supporting Obama because of the last eight years of George Bush. I understand he hasn't been the greatest president and is probably the worst in our history but I'm not ready to pass the torch to someone who 4 years ago was a mystery. We need a change... yes, but I feel that Obama hasn't the slighest clue of what he is doing. I'm not saying McCain does either... Hillar Clinton should have been the nominee... and I consider myself a true republican, she would have had my vote.

That's the problem with so many people here in this country... you're right, he has wonderful ideas... but they end there, they are just ideas and plans. Typical liberal rhetoric... "the American people are tired of paying to much as the gas pump, the grocery store, making the bills. I'll fight for you, the little man"

"Barack knows what it means living in a country and a culture that is controlled by rich white people. Hillary would never know that. Hillary ain’t never been called a nigger. Hillary has never had a people defined as a non-person.” That's racism... assuming that because I'm white I disciminate against people of color “In the 21st century, white America got a wake-up call after 9/11/01. White America and the western world came to realize that people of color had not gone away, faded into the woodwork or just ‘disappeared’ as the Great White West kept on its merry way of ignoring black concerns.”

he can't lose... no one will touch him. he exists in a world of double standards and I'm sorry to say but if he were a white male he would have lost the election a long time ago it it had came out the McCain attended a church, mind you for over 20 years, that preached anti-semitic and racist propaganda he would be chased out of the race within 12 hours... but with Obama... "we" don't understand their culture... because they are "oppresed" and its simply "passion from the pulpit"... but Palin is considered the daughter of satan for her church feeling that prayer can "cure" homosexuality (which is just crazy to even think people believe something like that) I'm not racists in any way... I'm just calling it how I see it and tired of politically correct people who feel that if they say they don't like Obama they fear people will assume they are racist.

The best you'll be able to do is a cold gunmetal finish that looks great but is very, very difficult to maintain. This is the easiest, not the best method. As mentioned before more durable finishes can be very dangerous to apply on your own. I've done this several times to my Vokey wedges and even though the finish does not last long I do it to keep me busy. Obviously this process will only work on raw steel and would require a chrome club being dechromed in order to obtain such a finish. Pick up a gunmetal kit from any outdoors stores or Dicks. The set will come with a gunblue removal solution, rust remover, gunblue solution, and a degreaser. The set will also come with some super fine sanding pads and steel wool. 1.) clean the club as much as you can using hot water and soap. 2.) soak in vinegar for 30 minutes to remove any existing finish 3.) clean the club again with warm water, dry completely 4.) use the rust remover solution, again to clean the club as much as possible. All dirt and sand must be completely removed. 5.) use the degreaser solution and wipe down using a clean cloth 6.) using the brush that came with the set spread the gunblue solution over your wedge covering the entire surface evenly but quickly 7.) allow to sit for roughly 20-30 seconds, then RUN THE CLUB UNDER COLD WATER 8.) the club will turn a bluish tint as soon as the solution is applied. Repeat step 7 until the desired color is achieved. Repeat step 7 for a darker finish rather than leaving the solution on for longer. ENJOY!

DDBowdoin replied to DDBowdoin's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
that's exactly what I was looking for... 550 for the 909D3 throw in a FW or a hybrid and thats a steep order whats your expected shipping time? -
Holy CRAP! I just looked up my 401K balance summary... my annual return is -47% and I have 100% of my contributions allocated in a balance 2050 retirement fund (I'm 23). I'm not worried because I have a long way to go and I only have roughly 5 grand invested but its kind of a shocker. Things will rebound...

I frequent my local range often and have gotten to know, well at least recognize the regulars. One of the regulars, whom I've never spoken too, has a decent game but the long game has always kept him back. He has an average swing speed (I would estimate 102-105), and a fairly smooth tempo. Tonight he was a completely different beast... I noticed he had a shiny yellow shaft and eventually I saw some of the graphics and realized it was a Fujikura Rombax 6X07. Now, I know this is an ultra exotic shaft but does anyone have any experience with this shaft... specifically I'm curious what kind of upcharge Titleist would charge for the shaft.
