Also, while talking to Bernie about this, he mentioned something else that has brought him a lot of putting success....this may need its own thread but, He said trying only looking down at the ball long enough to get the putter square behind it...then never look back down. Just stare at the exact spot you want to hit the ball to and pitch your hands toward it. His theory is that when you throw a rock at something you don't look at the rock...you just throw. Interesting. I might try this, too. God knows I need all the help I can get on the green!!!

Well, I make the alignment standing up...not squatting. Then just let the putter rest on one finger while stepping around it. The contact the putter has with the green doesn't let it move assuring me it is setting just like I aligned it when it's time to make the stroke. You might be right on the accuracy, saving that my eye is unique to everyone elses, just as yours is. It is far easier for me to line the stripes on my putter head than try to see down a tiny line of text on a ball....just doesn't work for me unless I almost lie belly down on the green. (not so cool looking : D)

Great video at the end of the article, too! I really love his blunt statement: "NO! No drills. Drills are work! Golf if supposed to be fun!" Awesome.
-
Nevermind...no one seems to get what I'm saying. Anyway, a friend that plays in pro tourneys said he's done it many times over the years and it is legal. Thanks anyway. Sorry I couldn't make it clearer.
-
So it is legal??? Who are they? I wanna search a video or two.
-
No, not face on putting...though that's a very accurate style I've tried. I'm talking about standing behind your putter and lining it up with ball, then turning to traditional putting stance and making the stroke.

Just goofing around the other day with putting practice, I stood my putter up in front of me while looking down the line of the putt. Then, sort of laughing about it, gently walked 90* around the putter without moving it and made my stroke. Turns out this is INCREDIBLY accurate!!! So I'm thinking...there's gotta be some kind of rule against this or why wouldn't everyone do it? I searched the PGA rules for anything concerning "putting alignment" and came up empty. Thought I'd see what you guys know about this.

1) single digit handicap 2) improve yardage consistency 3) improve on reading greens 4) get happy with ONE set of irons and stick with 'em.

We were just joking. But thanks for proving our point. I was raised with and still have all the respect for my elders that a man can have, and it is THAT respect that makes a rude reaction from one of my elders all the more uncalled for.

That's what I was saying....you can make some money at golf without "THE TOUR". And as good as he is supposed to be and with nowhere to go and nothing to do, he could hang out around some golf course, clean up in their bathroom when they opened, help vaccuum and take out trash in trade for a sandwich and chips for lunch, and play money holes with the rich, old guys all day long! Hmmmmm.....maybe I should do this???? LOL

I wonder why none of his "friends" in the golf biz won't take him in. (makes me think he has some real issues and they know it) I wonder why Beverly Johnson refuses to be interviewed. I wonder why the TV Network took his story on as a project, but still leave him in the pipes at night???? I wonder why his statistics page has been removed from PGA.com I wonder why he is not playing money games somewhere with some rich guys? The whole story would keep me more interested. I couldn't care less about his daily non-productive activities that fill up an hour show.

These courses make the ones 'round here look crappy! Thx : (

All the rude encounters I've had in the last couple of years were from older men. One was my fault (I really asked for it ) , the others were just senseless. I play a lot of golf with my dad (60 yrs old). He doesn't have much patience with me or anyone. I've come to accept this is just common among the elders of the game now. The quicker you accept it, the more tactful you'll be about playing around them. Cranky old farts anyway! LOL {{{{ ATTENTION!!!! }}}} That last comment was JUST A JOKE! PLEASE DO NOT SHOOT!

How could you already have an R11? They haven't been released yet....at least not here?
-
Or just enough to put the ball in line with a "mark" on the green for alignment.

I know what you're saying there...but I'm just talking about a camera angle and position. I don't want golf on TV to become like football for sure....I simply just want some landscape in the shot so I know what the dang ball did! It just seems so simple to me.
-
Just a thought...... Watching the U.S. Open last year, the cameraman was kind of showing off at one point. After a commercial, the view opened up to a pelican, so close that you could almost count his feathers....then the camera started to zoom back out.....that pelican was like a half a mile away!!!!!! Having said that....I can't see why it would be a problem to film from behind the golf shot, and follow the ball strictly with zoom, keeping some landscape in view (even if just tree tops).

I'm 5'7...almost every adult male I have played golf with can hit their irons at least a club less than me for the same yardage, if not 2. But my scores are lower than most of them. Straight and accurate is so much more valuable and dependable than long and uncontrollable. But your question was actually "when does the increased yardage come?" I asked a local teaching pro the same question. He told me it would come as I gained confidence in my swing and gradually started adding power through the ball . NOT changing my swing at all, definitely not taking a bigger back swing.... just coming through the ball with more authority. Some call this "more snap at the bottom". So far I'm seeing results and hoping for more as time goes on.

Better ratings? NO Doubt! I think, in my humble opinion, that it would bring back a lost audience that gave up watching golf on TV for similar reasons. I'm still trying to find that example video...hang in there guys.

"It doesn't, but I just take offense for the lack of respect given. This all could have been avoided by just saying something like "Mike and Andy? They've been a huge influence me, no question. I do believe however that I do my own thing out there, but I'd be kidding myself if I didn't acknowledge how much they've helped accelerate my understanding of the swing." Well said. And by the way......I'M STACKED!!!!!!! I really did switch...and just HAD to say that.

Yes I have! A long time ago (I was 18) I worked at a resort golf course. The assistant pro and I were good friends, and he would give me lessons, and a lot of times made me work with the Medicus. It WILL straighten out a LOT of BS in your swing (single plane). I was in awe at the time of how powerfully he could hit a ball with it....amazing.
-
Maybe you're right there....but that's exactly what I'm talking about. You could have one camera on the ground watching the swing, then cut to the one in the tower behind the tee box (I don't think you would have to be up high enough to need a crane)....and let's face it, to put a camera in 9 towers scattered around the course would be no relative expense. After all, it seems to take more cameras and more tech work to do what they do now than what I speak of. Or does it? Bottom line is, we the viewers that can't be at the tournament in person, get a better sense of what it took to make each shot happen as opposed to just knowing simply that it went up in the air and landed, which is basically what we see now.
-
I agree with you both...but I'm not talking about ProTracer or Trackman.....I'm talking about filming the ball flight from a higher elevation so that when you follow the ball with the camera, you can still see trees and other landscape that lets you see the ball's flight in relation to the surroundings. Know what I mean?
-
For all I know, this has been discussed on here profusely...or maybe not. But am I alone when I say that I really really wish they would film the PGA tourneys differently for us lovers of the game? Don't get me wrong, they do a great job, but watching a ball with nothing behind it but blue sky for 5-6 seconds at a time doesn't tell me how the ball flight tracked....and THAT'S what I would really like to see! I know it can be done by using one camera from behind the shot following the ball with zoom, and still keeping landscape in view...I've seen it done before...forgive me for not knowing where to find it. But all in all, you would be able to see the ball flight in its entirety, be able to see how high the flight was, whether they drew it or faded it, etc. If this has been discussed before, what did y'all come up with? or give me a link, please. Can we get a petition together to send to the Golf Channel? LOL....actually I'm serious. : /

My dad and I can shoot in the low 80s playing the championship tees (in a cart) in 2 1/2 hrs. But when a certain friend of mine goes with us who shoots over 100 and looses 10-12 balls per round, it takes every bit of 4 hrs. I agree with that said before...amount of strokes and out of bounds balls is a HUGE factor, and the courses around us are full of those types of golfers. BUT! I don't get too wriled because I know they are just out to have fun, and they paid the same money I did.
