  1. How big is it? Would make a great ball marker if small enough. Pretty cool looking!
  2. I voted N A as I rarely drink, but the way I'm playing lately maybe I need to down a couple before the first tee. In all seriousness I wouldn't be surprised if having one drink might result in a more relaxed swing and better results for many of us. The important part of this being just one, as I have no doubt that several drinks would prove disastrous for most peoples game.

  4. I read a review for Chromox balls on another site and they were not that impressed with playability of the balls, think it was on THP forum. If desperate you can dye any ball with any color of Rit Dye, go to Rit website and look under odds and ends and they give directions.
  5. Spalding Executives get my vote, some believe Spalding never recovered from these irons as they did have a good reputation until these were produced. I just remember the salesmen telling me these were the clubs when I was shopping for a set of irons at the time, I walked right out of the shop and went and bought some Wilsons and have played Wilsons ever since.
  6. Used to play yellow way back when, not being able to find a ball I like in yellow, (Z-Stars are always sold out). On another forum I saw where someone dyed there balls yellow with Rit Dye, ran out to WalMart the other day bought some Wilson Staff X1s ($20 for 2 dozen, nothing to lose at this price) and some Rit Dye (Golden Yellow, and Sunshine Orange). Played with the yellow balls today and they worked just fine, no marks on my clubs and the only thing I noticed was the yellow is very thin as short iron shots will expose some white if you have sharp grooves that remove some of the cover material. If I dye another batch I will buy Lemon Yellow for a brighter ball, the ones I did look no different that any other colored ball I compared them to in my practice bucket of balls. Oh yeah the WS X1s were a great ball for so cheap if you like a softer ball. Go to the Rit site and you can find instructions for dyeing golf balls.
  7. I have found that red lasts longer than blue or green sharpie, it's a scarlet red sharpie that came with an alignment line guide. It will fade to pink if it's damp out but that just prevents most guys from stealing my ball from the course, the blue I used to use would be almost gone by the end of a round. Wipe your ball with rubbing alcohol before marking it, seems to help it last longer.
  8. I hit off the 17th tee with driver and sliced it so far it cleared the 2nd fairway, which ran parallel, and landed on the fringe of the first fairway. As I'm leaving the tee box with my bag one of the crew sees my ball laying in the rough as he's driving the mower down the first fairway looks around and only seeing me on the 17th pockets my ball and drives away. When he sees me playing from the spot he grabbed my ball he runs it back over apologizing like crazy and gives me another he had just found, I can't blame him as I didn't think anyone could have sliced a ball that much. I sliced so bad it was going away from the 17th green when it came down, checking my GPS I was only 30 yards closer to the hole than I was at the tee box but had two sets of trees and rough to play through to get back to the proper fairway.
  9. This was out first time at this course and yes they parked directly on the path leading to the tenth tee, not being familiar to the course I could find no alternate route, besides a 8" curb there was also bushes and flowers we would have had to driven over. Also the sun had come out and the course was getting busy and they apparently were starting people off the tenth as the back nine was crowded ahead of us (something I didn't notice until things were into the heated discussion stage). At the point I realized it was going to be a major issue playing through I decided it would be best to let him have his little hissy fit and just play behind him rather than getting the ranger involved and possibly escalating the situation to the point where someone was asked to leave. I also though it better to keep him in front of us rather then have him playing behind us. We didn't let it destroy our round although I did put my tee shot into the water off the tenth, he clearly wasn't enjoying the back nine as he lost a lot of balls (in his defense the course was tight and if you missed the fairway your ball was more than likely lost) and this reaffirmed my belief that you treat others decently and you will be rewarded in life.
  10. My wife and I arrived at the course in a light rain, starter met us at the range and asked if we were ready to play, replied anytime your ready for us (our tee time was still 20 minute out). He sent us right out as a twosome stating there are three groups ahead of us, none of which were in sight from the first tee. Caught foursome at 3rd hole, around fifth hole on we were catching them before they were teeing off at every tee box, my wife had said she did not want to play through so we waited quietly and let them play on with out saying a word to them. Seventh hole we allow twosome behind us to play through, arrived at turn to find carts blocking path to tenth tee and the foursome (same foursome we were behind) inside seated drinking beers and eating sandwiches. With out hesitation I jumped into one of the carts to move it thinking they didn't realize they had blocked the path, I got maybe four feet when one of the guys flies out the door screaming and yelling (swearing at me), I calmly stated we would like to play through since we were ready. He goes off telling me what an @$$ I am and how I hit into them on the eighth hole (I never hit into them at the eighth, in fact my wife and I could think of no hole where I had hit into them, there were no blind tee shots that I remember) and no way am I going to play through, some heated discussion followed where I remained calm but stated repeatedly I would like to go to tenth tee. He finally told me to get the f@#$%@ing ranger if I wanted to play through, at this point I said fine I will play behind you all day if it would make him feel better (the guy was on the verge of really losing it so I thought it best to just return to our cart and let him stand there by himself). Eventually they came out of ding room and played on, other then the tenth we kept our distance never approaching tee boxes until they were gone, this guy was losing balls on every hole the second nine and was clearly not having a good round (I have no idea how he played on the front nine as I paid no attention). We finished our round behind them the final nine and they screwed around occasionally delaying my shots as they would sit behind the green or middle of the fairway staring back at us, I am sure they were I hoping I would hit while they were there so as to call the ranger and complain about us. We finished our round and went home doing our best to not let it ruin our day but it clearly was not as enjoyable as it should have been for us. In thirty years of golf I can only think of one other time I took issue with another players behavior that led to a discussion and that never got heated nor involved any swearing. My wife and I discussed it on the drive home and can think of nothing we did to provoke such an outburst. Before moving the cart we did try to find an alternate route to the tenth but found no other path. Did I make major golf etiquette mistake trying to move there cart at the turn without talking to them first? Did I need to step inside and ask them if I could play through?
  11. Keep in mind the balls may be very different from one range to the next, thus the different distance/feel from your two experiences. Also the wind if there was some can have very pronounced effect on distance along with ground conditions etc. When I go to the range I ignore the distance markers and simply try to practice my setup and to correct ball flight issues I might be having at the time. If you need to find your club distances find an empty field and use your own golf balls and find your true average distance.
  12. The first time I played golf as an adult with other players I picked up my playing partners ball marker on the green and handed it back to them saying I think you dropped this. I never saw them put it down in place of their ball and had never heard of marking your ball when I played as a kid ten years earlier.
  13. I had the longest drive of my life this summer, unfortunately I know I will never be able to reproduce that shot. Par 4 480 yards, no matter what I have tried I have never reached this green in two strokes, this time I ended less than 100, yards from the green with my tee shot. The big secret, slight tailwind, big swing (which tends to produce a slice as I get too fast), and eight lanes of concrete. The ball landed on the very edge of the major highway that runs down the edge of the fairway by just inches, it then bounced across all four lanes of traffic with out hitting any vehicles, two center turn lanes and both shoulders that are extra wide at slight angle which allowed it to gain an extra 150 yards of roll. The worst part of the whole thing it was not the fact that I had hit it out of bounds but there were at least two dozen balls that were up to 30 yards farther than my ball in that ditch and none shorter so I am still a short hitter by the standards of the players at this course. But I can now claim I put it out there over 300 yards when my swing is on, so I fit right in on the internet forums. My biggest regret is that I didn't measure the exact distance with my SG5 but will next time I play the course as it stopped right next to the culvert in the ditch. In regards to OPs shot I am betting first bounce off sprinkler head, I've done this and it is amazing the roll out you get when the grass is short and dry.
  14. I'm thinking the USGA is setting us up for a shorter ball being put into place. They can point to the scoring at the end of the season and tell us the groove rule didn't work, we need a shorter ball. I hope I'm wrong but hearing that the Nationwide is to play a test tourney with special balls doesn't put good thoughts in my head.

    Night golf...

I think it is GolfWRX that has a thread in regards to damaged clubs, some reported caving in face of driver and fairways, one guy posted pic of hybrid with hole right through the face. What ever the case they don't fly as far and be sure to always place the light stick in the ball parallel to club face when hitting or it will shower you with the chemicals when it explodes, don't ask how I know. Last time we went my cousin played with seven iron only and scored as well as any of us. I tried the flashing type of ball sold at Golfsmith, they went farther (still shorter than standard ball) but were not easy to hit as the flashing really through me off, never hit so many fat shots in my life.
