  1. I'm still having a hard time envisioning this. I looked at the initial pics in the original post, so I think I get the idea but I think I need some clarification. I tried to duplicate this by looking at myself in the mirror with no club. So when I start the downswing, do I start it with pushing down on the balls of my back foot (thereby lifting my back foot heel) and therefore shifts my hips forward? Is that the sensation I'm looking for? And when I shift my hips forward, do I try to keep my head back so that I tilt away from the target like the pros do? Am I completely off?
  2. I'll play a couple rounds with my old roommate and sometimes I ask myself, "why do I invite him?" My wife asks me the same thing because she knows he annoys the fire out me sometimes. He's a good guy and all, but this social skills need improving. First, he'll talk about how far he can hit the ball. He'll go on and on how when he was a teen he would hit it like 300 yards on a regular basis. Then when we walk up to the tee box he'll have his hybrid out and I'll pull out my driver (cuz he can't hit his driver) and he'll still insist on me hitting first, cuz he thinks I don't hit as far. Next, whenever somebody else hits a bad shot he'll say "whoa". Oh I hate that with a passion. I remember this one time I went to the driving range with him and he'll pull out his 09 TM Burner and he'll go on and on how he had to get a stiff shaft because the pro told him his swing speed is fast so he needs stiff. Well he'll go to hit it and hits a huge slice. He'll turn to me and say, did you see that I'm hitting it regularly 300 yards. And I'll say yeah, it went total of 300 yards, but it went 250 straight and 50 yards to the right. He'd probably be a decent golfer if he could get a better short game and putting, but with him, it's all about distance. Sometimes I don't know why I golf with the guy. I need some new friends.
  3. This. Bonus points if it's cheap too...
  4. I buy a ton of my golf gear off of ebay. You just have to be careful. As far as retailers, I've found GlobalGolf to be excellent. They're on ebay too. I've won auctions from them where I didn't read the product description correctly, and they cancelled the auction no problem. They also have a trade in option too (only available in the US ) Also have to give kudos to 3balls and Rockbottom. They're good as well. My one transaction with 3balls, I recieved a Ping driver from them, but it broke in transit. They refunded my money no problem.
  5. My set I got off of ebay just came in the mail and I am stoked about hitting these. I paid $225 for these 4-GW. I used to play Ping G2s. I'll give my review after I take them to the indoor range. Unfortunately, I won't be able to play any rounds for a few more months yet as there is about a foot of snow everywhere .
  6. Any chance of somebody posting a video of this? I'm having a hard time visualizing this in my simple little head...
  7. Reason I ask is because I'm looking at some MP-60's for about $250 on ebay. They're stiff steel shafted, and I currently use regular graphite shafts. I don't think I swing out of my boots, so I didn't think I needed stiff shafts. But when I saw these MP-60's, I thought it was a good deal. Is it a good deal? Should I be using stiff or regular?
  8. Hey all, I was just looking at some new clubs, and I was wondering if there is a difference in the flex of steel shafts. When I see "stiff steel" - is that correct? Is there a regular flex for steel and a stiff flex? I know that there is a difference in graphite shafts, but for steel? Thanks!
  9. I also read in one of my old Golf magazines that by not bending your elbow more than 90 degrees prevents you from overswinging. I guess this promotes the idea that to get distance, you should coil more in your hips, rather than taking a bigger swing.
  10. Well, I'm in the market for a new 3 wood. When I first bought my Hibore wood, I thought it was a great club. Recently, I haven't been able to hit it with any kind of consistency. In fact, I didn't even take it on a recent golf trip that I took. I love hitting my Ping G5 5 wood. Love the sound, and I am usually consistent with it. So I'm looking at other Ping products. So just looking around, I found a Ping G10 3 wood and a Ping G10 15 deg hybrid. I am kind of leaning towards the 3 wood (for some reason, I can't seem to hit my 4 hybrid with any consistency as well). Anybody hit either of these clubs? Thx in advance.
  11. I seem to hit my 5 wood well, so 5 wood....
  12. True. I never realized how complex chipping can be (or golf for that matter)! I also learned from my instructor that you also have picture in your head what kind of shot you want to execute. When you're chipping and if you want the ball to travel in the air a longer distance, you should use a higher lofted club (sw) or if you need more roll, use a lower loft, like a 9i or even an 8i.... What a game...
  13. These are all tips my instructor showed me... the hardest part that I had to get used to was tip #3. First, he said take some practice swings, and try to "feel" the correct distance to the hole, never looking down at the ball. Next when you come to address the ball, he said to take your swing, and keep your head down - well after you strike the ball. Then after you look for your ball. Hopefully the ball goes where you intended it to go Normally, I would immediately look up after contact and follow the ball. Doing this change takes some getting used to...
  14. Sounds like you've got a little Stack & Tilt in your swing. I'll tell you what my instructor told me. I used to have a massive slice (hence, the username), but with the help of my instructor, I managed to cut down on the slice and managed to straighten it out. First he told me to take a stronger grip. Not a tighter grip, but rotating my top hand (right hand since I'm a lefty). You should be able to see more than 2 knuckles when you look down at your hands. He said most hackers should do this since most of us slice. Next he said to position the ball just off my leading heel at address. Next he told me to stand taller with my hands hanging below my eyes (this gives the sensation that you're reaching for the ball, but it's not). Still have a knee bend and spine tilt, but you're not standing over the ball. Last he said to tee the ball higher - 1/2 the ball above a grounded driver. All this hopefully promotes a shallower swing plane and prevents coming over the top. Hope this makes sense and helps you out!
  15. Just a quick note on looking for lessons - although you can usually get a deal by going with group lessons, avoid them! I've done group lessons twice and all I got was the pro come look at my swing, make a comment, and then go to the next person. It was a waste of time. This past month, I signed up for semi private lessons with my wife, and they have been great. The pro could pick out different parts of my swing, and make the corrections. I'm very pleased.
  16. I had the same problem until last night. I just had a lesson with a pro last night, and he said when you set up for your short irons, sw-6i, your hands should be directly below your chin at set up, with the ball in the middle of your stance. For longer irons, (5i-3w), your ball is front middle of your stance with your hands setup below your nose and you're standing a little taller. For your driver, your setup with the ball off your leading heel, your hands setup below your eyes and you're standing a little taller yet. Still have your knee bend and spine tilt, but you're just more upright (not so much over the ball). Hard to describe without pics, but I noticed with these subtle variations in setup, it promotes a shallower swing plane as you go with longer clubs.
