That is just silly. I suppose we are all born as fast as Carl Lewis too. He just ran more sprints when he was a kid. I love the posts where people think all you have to do is have tons of "quality practice" to be one of the best in the world at something. What about the thousands of mini tour golfers who practice and play as much as all the PGA tour guys. Why have they not made it??? I'm sure many use the same coaches and put in more time on the range. Hard work beats talent when talent does not work hard. But the PGA Tour is almost 100% talent working hard

Is pebble beach a hard course?
65withatriple replied to ronaldkuntoro's topic in Golf Courses and Architecture
I played there in April, two month before the Open. The fairways were already narrowed to US Open specs but not quite as high yet. The greens were much, much softer than they were during the Open. I would not say it is one of the harder courses I've played. But the wind was only blowing 10-15 that day. I will say its hard to concentrate on golf in such a beautiful place. With that being said I think I shot an 82 with 4 doubles. HA HA! -
With enough practice can anybody become a pro?
65withatriple replied to James_Black's topic in Golf Talk
Here is why your wrong.......when everyone works equally hard, the one with talent will be on top. Your silly. Being on the PGA tour would be like being on the Fortune 500 if your compairing life success and golf success. And I know a many determined people who are not near "that successful". -
I play in many other flighted tournaments outside of my club but my club has many member only tournaments that should be fair and fun. Just not the case with so many illegitiment handicaps. My point exactly. Get off your high horse. I like to compete.

I had a pain on my left wrist, pinky side, under the bone. I only hurt while golfing as well. At first it only hurt after a swing but eventually started hurting during. I did some research and found 2 possibilities. I cant remember the names...but it was a tendon that got inflamed. Ibuprophen helped. As quick as it appeared it went away. I still have flare ups but never as bad.

Do any of you notice that handicaps only benefit those with higher ones or am I just a sore looser? My handicap is now +1.8 and my Club has a ton of handicapped tourneys. I basically have no chance to win. I could be more competetive if everyone else turned in all their true scores. Seems like everyone only turns in their bad rounds. I hate to say it but I may start sluffing on mine too.

A scratch golfer could potentially qualify for a Nationwide Tourney. He could potentially be competitive for an event. But there is no chance a zero handicap golfer could compete week in and week out on the Nationwide tour. Here is a cool story about a guy who went from mini tour to pga tour in a few months. I'm not sure of the exact dates and his exact finishes but I'm sure it would be easy to find. Jerod Turner played in the Adams Tour at my country club....he won. Remember the Adams tour is one of the smallest pro tours around. A month or so later he Monday Qualified for a Nationwide tournament. He finished well enough to gain entry into the following Nationwide event. I think he finished in the top 10. In the next few tournament he did well enough to finish in the top 25 and get on the PGA tour. This all happened in a few months. He got hot. He played above his abilty for a few months and made it to the show. The guy is a great golfer....much better than scratch but it shows you can get hot for a short time and go a long way. Last I looked he was not doing well on the PGA Tour. Anyway I thought it was pretty cool to see a guy climb that high in a short time.

New York City Courses
65withatriple replied to 65withatriple's topic in Golf Courses and Architecture
I could rent a car. Not planning on it as of now. -
I was going to try to play Bethpage in late November during a weekend trip to the city. Bummer....it closes for the winter on Nov. 15. Are there any other courses worth playing around NYC? I really don't care about price if its a nice course. Any recommendations would be appreciated.

Can you play golf in NY in November? May be taking a trip then and was going to try and play Beth Page if the weather is playable.

Golf… After Back Surgery — Anybody Have Story to Tell?
65withatriple replied to mcotter's topic in Golf Talk
I ruptured l4/l5 in 2004. Was in severe pain for a year and a half and couldn't play golf or participate any physical activity. After seeing 4 ortho's I decided I was willing to risk surgery. Had a microdiscectomy. Walked a pain free mile the day after. Had to wait 6 more months for my first round of golf and shot 74. Although I was in constant pain the surgery I required was fairly simple. I have had no problems since and play up to 100 rounds a year. (Knock on wood). I feel stupid for putting it off for so long in hind site, but I would never recommend rushing into any surgery, especially on your back. -
I hate being left handed.
65withatriple replied to BadGolfer's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Sorry for Hijacking the thread but I have thought about "what if my kid is a lefty" in the past and when I reading the posts I had to get opinions. Its not the end of the world to golf left handed but as I am playing with my south paw friends it makes me realize that they can never hit my clubs and have all the other problems mentioned. I would love to have a little lefty pitcher in the family though. Thanks for the input. -

65withatriple replied to BadGolfer's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I have 11 month old twin boys. I am seriously considering making them right handed golfers no matter what. What do you lefties think? Do you think it will limit their potential if they are left handed playing from the right side? Don't want to do that but know the difficulties lefties face. -
Heavier club head = ball goes farther?
65withatriple replied to hamletsdead's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Thats not completely true. There is a optimal weight to achieve maximum swing speed. Too light and you will lose speed. Do you think a pitcher can throw a golf ball as fast as a baseball? -
Titleist 909F2 going left everytime
65withatriple replied to Chubbs's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I have had the same problem with 3 woods forever. I finally fixed it by getting a much heavier shaft. Try putting some lead tape on the head or demo one with an 75-85 g shaft. -
I have had 8 birdies and 1 eagle in a round, had a trip and shot 65. Have had 9 several times. The round I will always remember.....3 eagles and 2 birdies to shoot EVEN!!!!!!!!!! Had 8 bogies and 5 pars. I sure can mess up a great round.

Here are the well known courses I've played, some more "well known" than others: English Turn Redstone Harbour Town Pebble Beach Spy Glass Pasatiempo Spanish Bay LaCantera Poppy Hills Corde Valle Most of those fall into "best" that I have played. I think one of my favorites that is not well known is Waterwood National outside of Huntsville, Texas. Its a Pete Dye course that used to be in great shape. I think its either closed down or run down now. Next trips are Pinehurst, Bandon Dunes, and Scotland-Ireland. After that I will have my bucket list completed.....except for the ones I want to play but will never be able too.

I have a black super stroke that is in good condition. If your interested let me know, I'll sell it for a good price.

Low Torque vs. X-Stiff vs. Shaft Weight
65withatriple replied to chaptowngolfteam's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I agree with a stiffer and heavier shaft. But as far as the torque.....lower torque should help the club face stay closed. I had a problem with high power fades and was hitting a shat with a 3.5 torque. Went to Diamana Whiteboard which I think is 2.9 and problem solved. My swingspeed is a little faster than yours but not much....125-130. -
I loved all the courses less Spanish Bay, which was beautiful and in excellent condition, just not a fan of tricked out circus golf. Pasatiempo was fairly open. It had a few really great golf holes. #10 was playing directly into the wind and I think it was somewhere around 480yd. par 4. My rank on golf layout only, not the views. 1. Spyglass 2. Pebble 3. Corde Valle 4. Poppy Hills 5. Pasatiempo 6. Spanish Bay I loved 1-5 and could play them over and over. I must say there is not walk like Pebble. It is almost hard to describe the beauty if that part of the earth. Especially if your from South Texas. I couldn't take enough pics or get the smile off my face. The tv just can't do that place justice and I would say green fee is worth the experience :) Not one of the 8 left dissapointed.

It was all done by one of the guys on the trip. I don't think this one was super difficult to plan because we stayed at the resort for all but one of the courses. The one thing we all wished would have been planned better is the moving to 3 different rooms during the 4 nights. Packing and unpacking wasn't much fun. Didn't have much of a choice since the rooms at the Lodge at Pebble were $800 a night......we limited our stay there as much as possible. I have planned a trip to Harbour town for 8 and it really wasn't bad. I think as long as you stick to golf resorts, at least on your first few trips, you will find it fairly easy.

Just got back from my golf trip to Pebble. Made a hole in one at Pasatiempo #8. Also played Pebble, Spy Glass, Spanish Bay, Poppy Hills, and Corde Valle. That part of the earth sure is beautiful. Pebble was the best walk of my life. Weather was perfect after the first day and the courses were all in excellent condition. Didn't score well but it didn't matter......awesome trip! Best part is the bar was closed at Pasatiempo when we finished so I only had to buy the 7 others with me drinks :)

[QUOTE=saevel25;441931]225-250 carry with a 6-iron is not possible. I don't even think Tiger woods when he rips into a 6-iron can get it that far. Unless your 6-6 and can really just demolish the ball. But i might be wrong. Well of course you live in Colorado springs, i don't know what elevation thats at, but you might gain some significant yardage. My stock 6 iron is 210 so to say 225 is impossible is silly. Who knows what the wind was doing. I could easily hit a 6 iron 225 with a nice tail wind.

Thats what I love about this game!!! I think I actually like it more when I go through the bad times. Its fun trying to beat the deamons. One of the worst winters ever for me. Shot #s I haven't reached since high school. Been playing more and at the range more in the last month than in the last 2 years and loved every minute of it. Finally see light at the end of the tunnel. If it was an easy game it would not be near as fun!!!

Anyone played Pebble in the last few weeks?
65withatriple replied to 65withatriple's topic in Golf Courses and Architecture
Thanks for all the responses. Know I will have fun, hope to keep it in the 70's but if I shoot 100......oh well.
