Diy possible for sure, if you have the time and the back for it. I've got the back, but not the time. My personal projects always take too much time.

Well...It's on the way. Step one I had to remove two to three inches of soil and weeds. Used my guys and equipment for that part. The green is going on the far end by the fence for the vegetable garden!

I agree. The rule leaves a lot to interpretation, but then again many rules of golf do and that's ok. It is a great part of the game that the character of the player is so important. But, I think that the rules need to really take into account the speed of the greens these guys are putting on. I've only played on greens that fast a few times when it is windy. One time, not too breezy, on a very fast green I placed my putter behind the ball and the ball started rolling forward. The wind coming from behind and over the putter had essentially pulled the ball forward, bernoulli and all. Interesting thing is we were able to replicate the situation and it wasn't an extreme weather condition. Extreme green condition, yes, extreme weather, no. Personally, I think that if you're not making a stroke you should be penalized. Much like the ball falling off the tee on the tee box (which happened twice to me yesterday).

2 Must play courses near San Francisco

Exactly, it's a muni just like bayonet, blackhorse, harding park... I've never played it, but my buddies always stop there when they can. -
I'll do my best to document. As that is what I was looking for during my internet search. I found some neat ones and some not so neat ones. This project has been a couple of years in the dreaming stages, I'm starting to get pretty excited.

Pretty sure I could handle it....but we hired Southwest greens.

Scheduled to start work next week. I'll keep you posted.

interesting. My Mizuno 6 iron is weaker lofted than an RBZ 7 iron. Also, these loft changes and the advent of the lob wedge have resulted in the gap wedge. At least wedges have the degrees stamped on all of them, along with the bounce. At least all the ones I have played.
-
I always thought it would be more helpful if irons came with the degree stamped on the sole instead of a number. This number has now become arbitrary to some degree. I know that when I play with my buddies our six irons are quite different in lofts, and as a result the distances are not equivalent relative to the number stamped on the sole. It is fun to watch people try new sticks on the range and finally get the ball airborne. In that respect I think the golf club designers have done a good job. The marketers are also doing their job in marketing the length. But it is trivial, in that all that matters in the end is that you have a set that covers distances fairly evenly, including hybrids and fairway woods. I have an old set of apex irons that I loved. When I lay them down next to my current set they are clearly weaker...I used to hit that 3 iron. Now I don't carry one, having exchanged for a hybrid.

Yocha dehe is great, but a bit further away. Chardonnnay is OK, they just remodeled and took out 9 of the 27 holes. It now has 6 or 5 par 5's and 6 or 5 (I forget) par 3's, a bit odd. I like Eagle Vines, which is right next door to Chardonnay much better both bercause the course is better and because it is better maintained. Hiddenbrook is also nice, right off of hwy 80, a straight shot from the city. They used to play an LPGA event there, I really like that course. tough! For historical purposes and great views, try Mare Island. It's an old army/navy golf course. the first nine are touted as the oldest west of the mississippi. I haven't played it in years, but have always enjoyed it and the green fees are affordable. -

Half moon bay is a good option, and they have two courses so you could make a full day of it. If you want better weather, as June is not the best in SF or Halfmoon bay, head up to Napa and play at the Silverado Resort. There are two courses and are on a rotation between members and resort quests. Both nice, they used to play the transamerica on the south, I like the North a little better. The weather will be nice and it is easy to find a good restaurant or visit a winery as part of your day. There is also the sonoma mission inn golf course, I haven't played it but it gets rave reviews from all. Once again, good weather, and after a few days in SF you'll want to warm up. ;) -
Scotty Cameron Studio Select Newport First of 500
VMAN replied to Pete3024's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Scotty's seem like to behave a lot like watches...1 of 500 is not that big a deal. Now 1 of 50 or 35, that is a bigger deal. Like watches #1 or #500 is cool, but it's still one of 500. Even less of a deal when the condition isn't perfect. I would pay less than retail, especially since many of these models just have a different paint fill. -
Scotty Cameron Collector Troubles... Pls help
VMAN replied to packer445's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I have 6 putters, not collecting, but that is how many I have. I know which one is my current gamer the last two years. I feel like I cheat on it when I buy something shinier. Some people collect putters and I guess a thread saying look at my SC collection would get more praise and less venom... Some people collect weird stuff other than putters. Personally my vote would be for a studio newport, any model. I have one and I do like it, but My odyssey #9 makes more putts. I'd like to see the collection, I think it's cool. -
Hit half shots and focus on making solid contact. Good impact position, center face, solid contact. Always takes the blues away for me. Usually how I start any practice session. Make good contact for 15 balls or so then I work on things from there. If I'm struggling I go back to that for a few balls.
-
No matter what I expect to be able to make a putt. I don't care if the greens roll at 5 or at 12, but please let them be somewhat true and somewhat consistent. Other than that I'll play on just about anything, harpan, poor drainage, no grass, too many leaves...whatever. I don't mind brown. Aerated greens don't bother me as that is a temporary condition for the good of the course. And you can find out the schedule ahead of time.

Sometimes you just need a break to see things clearly. I love golf and get grumpy if I don't play, I also love the pressure of a putt to win a match or the pressure of a big tournament or game. In fact I don't enjoy playing without something on the line as much as with. I practice to beat my buddies and to get better. But sometimes, the best thing to do is take a few weeks off...no range...no putting. Just focus on other things. That usually works for me.

Very cool! Those look great! Thanks to Sand Trap and 2nd Swing

On my pushcart. When I carried I used both straps...adjusted so that my clubs wouldn't fall out.

Great site! signed up this morning.

Yes, if you go to the pre owned websites, the ones presented by the manufacturer and you go back 6 to 10 years there are lots of decent clubs for around $50.

Shaft stiffness in wedge not used for full shots
VMAN replied to Brett's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Most off the rack Mp wedges have the spinner shaft. Just bought a 64 to mess with and that is what it has. My wedges 52,56,60 I put in the same shaft as my irons. They are also 1/2" long and 3 deg upright, like the rest of my set. I like the consist feel throughout the set. It doesn't seem to cause any problems with spin, I have enough to stop the ball dead or give it a little extra if needed. -
Went on a golf trip and one of the guys, that I didn't know, said "you're going to love it" after every shot no matter what. He would say it before you're done with your swing. Put up with it for 18 and then the next day he sliced his drive 50 yards out of bounds on the first hole...as soon as it was in the air I said "you're going to love it" Everyone cracked up except for him, who thought it was a bit rude and told me so. I shrugged and blamed the 5mph wind...he kept quiet after that, and his buddies all thanked me.
