Thanks for the all input...I welcome more. I'm thinking that a 22' putt would be plenty long, though I didn't consider the 40 x 10 idea (almost like a lane pool). Pretty sure my wife wouldn't go for it. But it's a good idea and it makes me think that angling the green to get 30' from end to end would be great. this would give at least a 25 to 26' foot putt depending on where the cups are. I talked to the installer/president and the shape doesn't add to the cost it's just sf pure and simple. Which makes me think a kidney shape in about one third or less of the space would work well. They are more expensive than some of the other companies I checked out, but they don't nickel and dime you. We'll see when it's all done. I do want about a 10' straight putt, as Richww2 said more to work on a pure stroke. Knowing that you can stroke a putt pure and know where it will go builds confidence. Our club green is tilted heavily and the only straight putts are uphill. Many of us pick a cup and practice 4 to 5 footers uphill before rounds just to get our strokes in line. I also want a r/l putt and l/r putt. the trouble with this is that I don't want it to get boring right away. And with limited space this will be challenging. the nice thing is that you can chip and pitch to these greens. And their synthetic grass can handle it. I've wanted this for a long time, I can't believe it's going to happen and I want to consider everything I can....short of building a course in my backyard.

We are considering putting in a synthetic lawn and putting green in our backyard by Southwest Greens. Mainly due to the high cost of water in our area. The area is about 1,800 sf and the putting green will be 375 to 450 sf. I'd like some design input on the green from those who have them and those that would like to give this some thought. The area is rectangular and approximately 25' deep by 75' long. We'd like to keep the green to the right side of this rectangle.

Except that no one applies for membership. Applying or letting ANGC that you wish to gain acceptance is a sure fire way to not gain an invitation. Ask Bill Gates...
-
And as I understand it that invitation also allows you access to play practice rounds when you want, given that you play with a member. Which as a defending champion or past champion if fairly easy to do.

Some of these arguments are just argumentative for the sake. And it's easy to be on one side or the other. Along the same lines of thoughts one could say that the girl scouts or boy scouts are ridiculously antiquated as well. To me this is a case where a number of people can be on either side and both be right to some degree.

Someone pressed him a second time for more info and he replied that he wouldn't for two reasons. The second being that they especially don't discuss private matters when reffering to a named candidate. Not sure if he's referring to their own naming of a candidate or the press naming, but I thought it was an interesting choice of words.

It sounded like he just referred to her as a "named candidate".....interesting.

I hand it to my caddy and let him figure it out. He's got a towel

They really don't seem to hold on to the turf as my soft spikes. There are less places for the turf to get stuck into, and they are much easier to free from any sticking turf than the soft spikes. Reminds me more of the traditional spikes we used to wear. I do miss that sound. -
I have a friend who played it about a month ago. From the member tees, they don't let you tee of from the Master's tees. He's a 13 or so and shot a an 89, played solid considering the venue and being so amped up to play well there. We estimated that from the Master's tees he would have been over a hundred easily. He said the problem is in some cases you just need to be in the right parts of the greens if you want a chance at two putting. He did par 12, the only hole that is somewhat similar in distance for the pros. His playing partners all made 5's, tough hole.

Just got back from there and played: Conestoga, Falcon Ridge, Oasis -Palmer, Wolf Creek and Coyote Springs. The only course I would not play again is Falcon Ridge: Lot of blind tee shots, making the group ahead of us super slow. It just wasn't that much fun not knowing what you're hitting to and often the landing areas are sloped and you find yourself saying "if only I had know I would have done this instead...." The other four were great with Wolf Creek and Coyote springs at the top. Though the greens at Coyote Springs are very difficult and the pin positions were ridiculous (stuff like 3 paces on in areas where there is no way to get a ball close, or pins stuck on top of mounds that are like 12' diameter).

Just played five rounds in three days with the PHX. They performed great, I couldn't be happier. btw I exchanged the original pair that I had bought in my standard size to a pair a half size smaller and they fit great. They are more roomy than a traditional shoe, making them seem a bit big at first, but you get used to it fast. -

They came in. Hit some balls at the range and I couldn't be happier. Can't wait to take em out on the course. So comfortable and I noticed no traction issues -

He's left handed. That will make it even harder. Not nearly as many left handed scratch players. ;-) -

Thanks. Went with those to give true a try. I'll be taking them to mesquite next week, high and dry:). I'll stick with my adidas for my regular winter golf. I wear out a pair a year walking the course. -
At my old course it was a pretty small circle for the temp green, maybe 1o' radius or so. It was an automatic two putt, though you gave yourself to make a one putt. Didn't matter if you chipped to within 3' or closer. you get one chance and the next is a gimme. I like it better now...never have to deal with temporaries unless there is work being done.
