  1. That's very helpful. I have the same cellphone. What's the app you use to change the shutter speed? As an alternative I have a decent mirrorless camera (Fuji XS10) where it may be easier to play with the shutter and get better quality, but the playback is not very user friendly, so I would need to find an easy way to stream the recording to another device. I also looked in to golf simulators forums, they seems to suggest the combo Kinovea sw + a camera like this https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07GWNB6TN/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
  2. Hello Everyone, I am moving to a new house and first thought... let's have a room for indoor golf practice! I know many of you love to record your swings, but indoor there is always the issue of the blurred clubhead at impact due to the poor lighting compared to practicing in the sunlight. Has anyone figured out a combo of camera and indoor lighting to get good results at 240fps, 720p?
  3. hahaha, this one one is great My better than usual was referred to what I wrote after, the fact that at least they did not show a disproportionate amount of US player shots. I always bet on Europe. Even when playing on US soil the odds are so inviting that are worth the risk. At medinah it payed off big time. But I have to say that the home advantage has become such a strong factor that I am not sure I will bet on Europe at the next one
  4. I am so thankful to the bookmakers who always underestimate Europe, home advantage, etc. 😄 Won at 2.15 (US win odds were 1.6 before Friday)
  5. From the point of view of a European living in US, I must say that the coverage was better than usual. Typically it gets the "NBC Olympics" treatment, which it means only US athletes exists in the world. The one in France for instance, on Sunday they were constantly jumping from a good shot by a US player, to a good shot by another US player, you would wonder how is it possible they lost...
  6. New update, not a lot of changes since the last video, except that I am chunking the heck out of it 😅
  7. The Crossing: has tee times as early as 640AM, which is a blessing in the NC hot summer. Well kept, grass on the fairways is taller than usual, so it's kind of forgiving for high HC players who tend to hit fat shots. There is an interesting hole where you have to cross the same creek twice Will Mar: dead. Well, it has been for a while... Other than that, on a side note... inflation really hit hard on green fees in this area! I don't know the rest of the US, but here we are around a +25% vs last year.
  8. It's really a surprise, I thought the whole LIV story would have ended with: - world goes in a recession in 6-12 months - oil goes down to 20$ and the Saudi have to cut on the Sport washing extravaganza - LIV shuts down and the prodigal sons come back to PGA
  9. I am amazed that in a world of planned obsolescence, my 2016 Gen1 sensors still work fine, without any subscription, kudos to Arccos For regular users: is there a stat that you think is missing or need improvement? For me, I would love to see aggregated stats by course (best round, etc)
  10. Hey, my old swing thread! Let's see what has changed... No more early-early extension DTL looks nicer, even thou I probably start too wide Still not really compressing the ball at impact
  11. I'll be there Saturday... it's in NC + free tickets, can't beat that Too bad there is not a single European Hahaha, I just realized why
  12. I agree. Mine: - 2009 British Open, Tom Watson - 1995 British Open, Costantino Rocca - 2014 US Open, Compton (even thou Kaymer lead was never in discussion, but still)
  13. A few more: Reedy Creek: a few nice holes, the rest not very inspiring, but it's not too crowded Chapel Ridge: very well maintained, although the layout of the holes is not that interesting, way overpriced Wendel Country Club: same as Chapel Ridge, but cheaper Quail Ridge Golf Club: some bald patches here and there, but the layout it's quite enjoyable Knights Play: par 3 course to bring your kids or anyone who wants to learn the game. Everything is quite battered, some greens are so hard that you have to take in to account that the ball will eventually bounce far away... Prestonwood: well, this is private, gorgeous, unfortunately never had the chance to play... Tournament of Champions plays there
  14. That's interesting, it never showed up in my radar I may give it a try in a few weeks
  15. Well, the topic is very old... but if anyone is in the Raleigh Durham area, I have tried almost all the semi-private in the radius of 30-35 miles from Cary; we are really spoiled here with a lot of options. maybe this will help: River Ridge: my favorite, greens always in perfect shape, nice layout with a lot of strategy, free range balls... Eagle Ridge: another nice one, very well maintained Lochmere: unless you start early in the morning, prepare for a 6 hours round Loonie Poole: nice, challenging, the view of Raleigh skyline on a couple of holes is great UNC Finley: it's good, but I have never liked the butter greens (the ball lands and sink) Wildwood Green: claustrophobic The preserve: another of my favorites, certain holes look so good that a couple of times I took pictures with the cellphone; avoid this course if you don't have control of your driver direction The Neuse: well maintained, good layout Pine Hollow: in the Garner/Clayton area, this is a good example of how you can manage to put a good numbers of players on the course and still keep a good pace. Hedingham: oh boy, it's in such poor condition, avoid at all cost Wil Mar: another cheap one, several fairways are not in a good shape. Riverwood: well, from my high handicap point of view, it's one of the hardest in the area; 27 holes, a lot of different layouts. In great conditions and pace of play is very smooth Keith Hills: 27 holes, in the middle of nowhere, it's really enjoyable, and one of the best cost/quality ratio. I still wonder why they consider their signature landmark a couple of horrendous silos placed in the middle of a hole, they even put them in the logo!
  16. EIGHTYSEVEEEEEEN! (ok for you guys is a bad score, for me it's great) back to the comments will do This brings up a question. I know that a practice swing may be different than the actual swing on the ball, because in the practice downswing sometimes we don't square the face at impact, etc But I noticed that also my backswing is different. It's particularly evident on the driver, see video - I know, the grip... I think the reason is that at the top, in the second swing, I do an early extension, which I think it's there because my body wants to generate some speed. I wonder if it's ok or I need to completely suppress it
  17. Folks! Haven't posted in a while, I have worked on: - better turn - trying to keep the left elbow inside the shirt inseam Still working on a correct weight transition. The camera on the DTL is probably a bit misaligned
  18. Things I learned trying to get my kids (now 8Yo and 11yo) love golf: - Par 3 courses are perfect for the job - save the "sacred balls", first bogie, first par... - after school group lessons have been quite useless for the swing, but you get the hat, the ball marker, the gadgets... they love it - have clubs of the right length - make them practice a bit on a mat before hitting the course. What they only look for is to advance the ball, so if they are consistent just enough to not top or chunk the ball, they are happy - generous gimmies: they haven't figured out yet putting from a short distance, they hit a 3ft and it becomes a 5ft, which becomes another 5ft, etc That frustrates them a lot - for them is a tragedy to lose a ball in the water, get a ball retriever I am still struggling with the sibling competition, even if they don't keep the full score, when one gets a much worse day than the other, ends up pissed off. Sometimes the God of the Last Golf Hole intervenes and the day ends well
  19. Probably I was using it the wrong way, but my issue with the whip has always been that the "wait for the weight to finish its job at the top of the swing" feeling, for a smooth transition, with a real club translated into collapsing/over extending the leading wrist, and consequent casting in the downswing
  20. My only Major was Pinehurst in 2014, was a bit of a disappointment for a couple of reasons: - it was Sunday, and Kaymer killed any chance of competition for the victory - there were A LOT of spectators, raising dust everywhere on the trails; black stuff came out of my nose for a couple of days Here in NC I enjoyed more tour events in Quail Hollow
  21. Tried to shorten the swing and turn more at the beginning. Handicap is slowly but steadily improving, playing in the high 80s, low 90s now
  22. Hey, I am Italian and I care! There are a couple of issues with Rome. One is the course. At the moment it is a rather bland and uninspired course. There were probably better places in Italy itself and for sure in continental Europe to host the competition. The owners managed to get an insane amount of government money to get it in better shape; I hope they know what they are doing. As far as the fans, it depends: most of them will come from UK, what matters is if the organizers will start giving away a lot of free tickets to their Roman friends, friends of friends, etc. You may end up with a good number of "golf illiterate" people who don't know the proper behavior
  23. You must have an incredible hand eye coordination
  24. Betting odds are currently 1.6 US, 3.2 Europe I made quite a bit of money in 2018 betting on my team (Europe); this year I see an edge for Americans, but not that much, Europe odd is very tempting if Brooks is confirmed in the US, with the Feud and Phil as vice captain there would be a lot of pot stirring and finger pointing if something goes wrong the 1st day
