Get a hybrid if you don't have one. You will not be sorry. They are a godsend out of the rough, and amazing out of the fairway. I carry two woods (3 and 5). If I was allowed 15 clubs, I would even carry a 7 wood, if anyone even makes tem anymore. I play with a very good golfer, who plays with a 3, 5, 7, and 9 wood, with one hybrid, and no irons below a 6. And he's one of the better golfers I play with, not long, but always straight, and always in the fairway. Before I started playing with him, I didnt even know a 9wood existed. Its and older club, so maybe they don't make em anymore, but he loves it. Though he is considerin the switch to more hybrids and getting away from the 7 and 9 wood. He is kind of oldschool in that he used to believe hybrids were for hacks. Now I think he's coming back to reality.

Grats on finding what you wanted. SHitty that the seller screwed you like that on the original bag though. I always found the staff bags to be way too big. Had a chance to pick up a Ping Staff bag cheap once, got my Ogio instead. Just not into the oversized bag look. Though it would be great to have one at home to hold all of my extra clubs.

Thts a LIFETIME of hard work. I was 227lbs in that shot, about 5% body fat. I have since given up bodybuilding since I won the Atlantic Canadian Heavyweight CHampionship (which was my goal), and had only done it to prove to myself I could. So that is what I look like after 16 weeks of hardcore dieting and training, im bigger now, but have a softer, but still very muscular look. I keep my fat down low enough to have abs at all times, and my weight around 245lbs.

I absolutely love my Ci11's, couldn't find a complaint about them if I tried. This is my second season with them, and I love them every bit as much as I did the day I got them (and I have a full set of Nike VR blades, and a set of Ping G10's in my closet in spare bags. I do love the VR blades, but am not as consistent, though I can shape shots better). I eally think you made a great choice. As for shafts, mine are Stiff Steel shafts, custom fitted (Lie and length, i'm 6'4), and I have never used (or even heard of) these 'half and half' shafts.

If you could only have 10 clubs, which ones would they be?
ApocG10 replied to tmac20's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Driver (Titleist 913 D2 9.5) 3 Wood 15* 19* & 23* Hybrid 5,7, 9irons PW 55* Putter That was tough. I have a hard time choosing just 14 most days. -
Its not a bad thing to work from partial swing up to a full swing, but certainly work on your full swing as well. If you want the cheapest and most effective training aid out there, imo, buy Ben Hogans "Five Fundamentals of Golf", it will truly transform your swing. And I really, really would not reccomend a 64* at your current handicap. 60* is perfect for around the greens. 64* is a very, very hard club to hit well. As hard as a 3i, imo.

The 50 was just added as part of my new iron set so I'll probably take the 52 out for a 64. I would certainly take out the 52, but I doubt you need a 64. 64* is NOT a 110 club. Its a flop shot, very short club for when you need to get the ball high, short distance, with minimal bounce on the green and the potential for a lot of backspin. Having a 50-52-55 makes little sense. 50, 55, and 60 is a great wedge setup. At a 26hc, you have very little chance of being able to use a 64* wedge effectively. Instead, as I mentioned above, learn your distances with 1/4, 1/2, and 3/4 swings with the 50, 55, and 60. You will find you have EVERY distance you need covered. Take a small notbook to the range (as well as a range finder if you have one, and mark the distances of ever GOOD shot, ignore the bad, you are just trying to find out average good shot distances at the quarter, half, and three quarter swing lengths. Its also good to log dstances of average good shots of all other clubs as well. When i'm at the cource, I look at my gps, and unless there is something blocking the green, like large trees or something, I know exactly what club I need, all thanks t hours on the range figuring out exact distances with each of my clubs. Everytime I get a new club, I take it to the range and do this. Of the multiple dozens of clubs I own, I can go back in my little black book and tell you exactly what my average good shot distance with that club is. Knowledge is power, and that includes in playing golf. Quote: Pretty sure the "play with your mind" strategy doesn't just apply to your golf course... God knows that on almost every golf course I play, the driver is not used the standard maximum 14 times... True. On a Par 5, you usually always hit driver, but shorter par 4's can often be played better with a 3w (or sometimes less) off the tee. Especially if the hole ha a dogleg. At my main home course i'm a member at, I use driver 12 times on the 18 hole course, and 5 on the 9 hole. On the other 9 hole course the wife and I are members at to bring out little brother and sister (Big Brother/Big Sister program, but they let us get a family membership because the owner is a supporter of the program) to twice a week, I use driver twice, on the two par 5's. Of course, we are playing the most forward tees because we have two children under 10yo playing with us. The kids are both getting better, its nice to see. Caleb, my LB, just got his first birdie last week on a par three frm the forward tee's. I think that moment was happier than any great shot I have evr made on my own. He'll remember it for a lifetime. I had the ball put in a case with a little plate stating its the ball from his first official birdie, the name of the course, the hole #, and his name. He was proud of himself, but not as proud as I was. I've been teaching him to golf for two years, and its the first time I ever had tears in my eyes at the course. All this is totally off topic though, sorry about that.

I think you are wasting bag space having a 5i and 5h. I can swing 'easy' and get my regular 4i distance(195) out of my 4h, or I can swing normally and hit it to 210yards. Absolutely no need to carry both the iron and hybrid. Especially when the hybrid is easier to hit and far more versatile. Then my 3h is my 225 club. 5w at 235, and 3w ~250. As far as 110 and in, gimme any one of my wedgs from 56* right down 48*, and I can hit any distance from 20 yards, right up to 110, depending on the length of the swing I use. You should know your distances for full, 3/4, 1/2, and 14 swing for every wedge you have. I certainly have never heard of people having gaps below 110.

Adidas Crossflex 2013 shoes
ApocG10 replied to saturday's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
Great shoe. I prefer the Adipure (I have a contact with Adidas that sends me free product when he gets it in my size, which is 15), which may not look it, but is very, very breathable. That said, I use my Nikes most days because while they are less breathable, they are more comfortable while walking, and my addidas for one course I play that is Cart golf only. The fairways are so hard on that course, that i've had real problems with spike grip. The Adidas with Stinger hard plastic spikes work perfect there (yes I know, I could just put those on my Nikes as well, but why bother when I get the Adidas free?). I generally prefer a softer spike on my shoes. Now that TM and adidas are one company, im hoping he can get me more TM shwag as well, he gave me the RBZ 3 and 5W already. Before you guys call me a bum, this is a guy whom I gave a place to stay, for free, for 18 months while he was struggling in University to work to pay his tuition and books (I had a 3 bedroom condo my parents bought me as a first house when I went to University, so I had 2 extra rooms and way too much space for a 18-21 year old, so my only stipulation was that he do the mopping and vaccuuming, as well as his own laundry), so its ok for me to look for free shwag once in a while, imo :p -
Also, where is Anthony Kim? I know he had his Achilles heel torn, but thats over a year ago now.
-
Personally I like Nike and Addidas. And the make shoes in a 15 (my size), so I have some brand loyalty there.

Work on flexibility every day, and you wont lose ANY. Barring getting to Jay Cutler, Ronnie Coleman sizes, but that is inhuman.

I have hundreds more.

Anchored Putters Rules Change (Effective January 1, 2016)
ApocG10 replied to mvmac's topic in Rules of Golf
Glad its gone, though I think it should have been banned everywhere but the champions tour and senior golf to help players who truly have back problems at hose ages. My dad needs a long putter. He didn't like the idea, but it made the game much easier on him. Before I bought it fo him, he went about 2 months of not being able to Putt out last year, before I bought him a long putter, which gave him the ability to putt and play the tru game of golf again. Mind you my father will never compee or turn in a card, so he isn't who this is aimed at, but I can understand senior tours and mini senior leagues allowing it, and I think that would be perfectly ok because of the prevalence of back injuries in the population over 50. That, or make Humn Growth Hormone legal, and let these people truly heal (and look and feel younger). -
Muscle does not make one a worse golfer. I am far more muscular than ANY golfer (and yes, I admit to the use of Testosterone and IGF), and while im not pro bodybuilder size, I make Tiger and other muscular golfers look tiny. When I lost weight last year due to a series of family problems (cancer in the family, other problems, no time to keep my shape and size up), losing 23 pounds of muscle CERTAINLY hurt my game. Now that im back to my personal happy weight of 246lbs (8-10% bodyfat depending on the time of year), my golf has quickly improved back to scratch from a 2-3hc at the end of last season after the weight loss.

I carry 14, but have far, far more. lol. I can choose between 3 sets of irons, multiple 3 and 4 hybrids, 3, 4, 5 woods, all my wedges, 3 putters, 4 drivers. My bag is pretty steady though, except for which wedges I take with me, depending on which course i'm playing.

Still think the golf ball is important?
ApocG10 replied to James_Black's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
Yes I do. Its why I play with nothing but the Penta TP5. Its by far the best ball i've ever used from 120 yards and in. -
I watch sometimes. Not a huge fan, but neither am I a hater of the show. Haven't watched any Mexico yet (PEI was my fave because its close to my wifes parents, and the province has some of the best golf in Canada), but will certainly catch up.

255 yard approach with a 3 wood on a par 5. One bounce from the fairway, onto the green, where it rolled to 3 feet. Made the putt for eagle. My TM RBZ 3 wood is BY FAR my favourite club in the bag. I have to hand it to TM, its longer, straighter, and far more consistent than any wood I have ever hit. My average 3w shot went from 230 with my Wilson Staff DX-i to 245 with my RBZ.

78 at Gowan Brae Golf and Country Club, which would not be so disappointing had I not shot a 33 on front 9. I actually had a decent back 9 as well, until I put 3 balls in the water on the 237 yard (back tees) par 3 17th hole (Forced carry over an inlet with waves crashing hard into the shores for the first 175yards, and a prevailing headwind at ALL times) and carded a 10, when I had been at par for the back 9 until then. Frustration carried over to the 18th, and double bogeyed after putting my tee shot in the rough, my approach in the sand on the left of the bunker, skulled my chip off the green to the other side, chipped back on the green with my 4th and two putted from about 12 feet. I don't mind shooting a 75+ every once in a while, its certainly not bad golf by any stretch of the imagination, but when the high score is caused by a huge blow-up on one or two holes, i get upset with myself. 17 is a very, very hard hole from the tips, and i've carded many bogeys there. To me its the toughest hole on the course, as I don't think par 3's should have to be played with a 3 wood (and lets face it, 240 yards is driver for the vast majority of the golfing population, or even further than many can drive).

How much do Premium club really help?
ApocG10 replied to LucasBP's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
The more noticeable difference is in the fairway woods and hybrids. Those truly do make huge differences over el cheapo models. Mid to long irons probably would not be as noticeable. Cheap wedges though, those things are the devil. My dad had some till last year. They couldn't put backspin on a ball to save a life. -
That means nothing. Tiger has won plenty of tournaments after a bad first round. As ong as he isn't more than +3 at the end of his first round, he has a good shot as anyone.
-
This time I actually think Tiger is really injured. He winced the second his club hit the ground. Not as he followed through or holding the pose, but as soon as he made contact.

Sounds like the monday night doubles league I play in, minus the pro's. Some people are actually upset and wanted me kicked out because I "have an unfair advantage" because I don't drink. Not shitting you. Me being a scratch golfer doesn't help them like me either. Its their own fault for not entering a HC limit. Last years groups were fine with it, but the new teams who joined this year are a bunch of cry-babies.
