Why is everyone hatin' on my Puma gear?
tmf9 replied to badbrad421's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
Man i wear Puma all the time, and since im younger a lot of middle aged people especially like to give me hell and say "hey look this kid wants to be rickie fowler" which usually leads me to pick on them for wearing short shorts and golf shirts that come down to their elbow. Nothin but good trash-talking I honestly enjoy it. If they talk smack just give it right back to them. -
Best Cheap Ball for the money
tmf9 replied to Seth0194's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
Top flight d2's and gamers are pretty good. Think they cost like like 16-20 a dozen. Honestly unless you're a really good golfer most amateurs won't benefit from using a high grade ball anyway. -
What are you having trouble with? Long game? short game? Where are your misses goin?

67 on a Par 72 course, that was only 5900 yards, and i hit the ball a long way so i kind of take that round with a grain of salt. I didn't even putt that well, every birdie i had was literally within 3 feet cause I almost drove 2 different par 4s (only about 310 and 320 yards) and then absolutely murdered the "par 5's" (one was less than 500 yards and extremely down hill).

There is so much that motivates me to go to the gym now. The looks i get from girls at the beach, and in the gym, feeling like I am in shape. Sports wise It helps me jump higher and at the 1 outdoor basketball court in my hometown people would say "hey watch out for that white boy, he'll dunk on ya if you don't watch out", and in golf it helps me hit the golf ball pretty far. I love the reactions i get from people when they see me hit, people that have played with me will tell others "hey you need to see how far this kid hits the ball" not to sound conceited or anything but compliments like that make my day, and i know there's no way I'd be able to do these things if I didn't bust my tail in the gym. Not to mention it the overall health benefits of getting in cardio and weightlifting on a regular basis. Overall there are a ton of things that motivate me to go to the gym, and honestly I don't think ill ever stop going.

What advantages/disadvantages do the taller players have/get?
tmf9 replied to RetroJFrancisco's topic in Golf Talk
Interesting you say that im 6'4" and i have a very hard time drawing the ball (especially with longer clubs) but I can hit a nice controlled fade pretty often. I wonder if there is something to being tall and struggling to hit a draw, i've never really thought about it -
Since getting into college this year I have hardly had any time/money to play any golf at all. I think i've played 5 total time since august and none since Novemeber, due to not having much time to get in a full round, and not having the money to pay 10 dollars for a large bucket at the local range (sheesh) so my expectations heading into this round were non-existant pretty much, I went to the range and hit the ball decently after a while, and thought that I'd at least be able to shoot around an 80 and i'd be happy with that. Then I proceeded to shoot a 68! One shot away from a career low (even though i had back to back bogeys on 15 and 16 ) I couldn't believe it my timing was as good as its ever been in a round, and if it were not for two three puts and a chunked pitch shot I could have really put together a really good round. I can't believe I played so well, maybe it was because I played smart and didn't try to do too much but if anyone would have told me I'd go out and shoot a 68 I would have laughed at them. Anyone else have such a good round after a long layoff? Cause this was honestly the most shocking round of golf I ever played.

Any other low handicappers a feel player?
tmf9 replied to tmf9's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
exactly what I mean. -
I took lessons a year ago and honestly it did nothing but hurt my game. All i kept hearing about was positions, and grip pressure, and how to grip the club, etc. honestly it was too much for me and it destroyed my swing. Now after a lot of working on my swing myself all i ever work on is three things. Turning my shoulders/chest on the backswing, on the downswing returning my shoulders to the position they were at, during address and staying balanced. I cant tell you how much better my ballstriking has become. I'm talking 12+ GIR's almost every round. Is anyone else like this? I feel like some golfers are to busy trying to build a perfect swing as opposed to just figure out how to hit the ball solid and consistent and have way too many swing thoughts,

Yeah im definitely thinking about entering a competition just to see what its like. Never know something til you try it!
-
Go for it. When im faced with something like that I go for it and if i hit a bad shot I know my short game can still save par and worst case scenario I make bogey. And If i lay up im probably making par and maybe a birdie if I'm lucky. If you're confident in your swing being aggresive usually helps as long as its not anything too ridiculous.

Even if you dint see your dad much on the days you have matches you will still have the weekend to play with your pops. Make friends with the really good golfers on your team and just take notes of the preparations they go through to make them good.

Yeah I understand what you're saying. I was just thinking if I could do well in a tournament every now and then and make a couple hundred or even a thousand that would go a long way to a broke college kid like me. Im sure it would be a tough adjustment from one of those drivers to a standard driver but the best part of my game has always been my driving and I think its an adjustment i could make. Appreciate the advice though man
