I'm running Ubuntu; so it's not terribly far from OS X (both built off Unix and I can customize Ubuntu to look almost exactly like Leopard) OS X will also run just fine on the Mini 9, I just haven't felt like spending the time backing up files and installing a new OS

It's going to be a while before I buy another Apple product. I bought a Macbook Air and was in love with it. One day the hinges broke. This day was a week after the warranty expired. I Googled around and apparently an extremely substantial amount of people have had this problem with the Air. It's absolutely a manufacturing defect. Apple refused to repair the hinges and even required me to pay $800 to replace the entire monitor... I walked out and have been using a $400 Dell Mini9 ever since :) I'd like a new Mac, but I'm pretty good at holding grudges

I probably would get more done at work normally, but home is definitely more productive at the moment. Our company got acquired a little under a year ago and a LOT of employment and operations changes have been made. There isn't much morale or desire to perform around the office; so we goof off much more than we really should. I probably spend 2 hours every day playing basketball with a little plush ball and a plastic hoop we taped up to the wall, lol...

Today I had a 20-or-so foot putt that just baaaaarely missed the cup at a really nice speed. Right behind the cup... a drop off. I went from almost sinking a 20 footer to 3 putting :(

hitting down on the ball vs. scooping
Andycapped replied to Dr. Slice's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
I don't know how correct this is. It seems to me that putting the ball back in your stance is compensating for not hitting down on the ball properly. If you impact the ball with your hands in front of the club (and havent dropped your right (back) shoulder), you should be able to effortlessly hit down on the ball with the ball in the middle of your stance. I think putting the ball back in your stance is compensating for having a scoop swing that bottoms out in the middle of you stance. If a snap shot of you at address and at impact looks anything alike, you're not hitting the ball correctly. -
He's been playing fantastic all year. I wonder how many people had him for their fantasy picks

I could have used an extra glove today. Mine got soaked in the rain and was slipping everywhere :(

Right now I hardly put any effort at all... probably 50%. I almost broke 100 today (4th time on a 18-hole, non par-3 golf course :D) and it's all because I just relaxed and took it easy. The last 3 times the length of the course has felt daunting from usually playing par-3 courses; so I swung too hard and fell apart. Nice and easy shaved off 22 strokes from my first time on 18 :D

I should also note that the forward weight transfer should help you not drop your right (back) shoulder -
hitting down on the ball vs. scooping
Andycapped replied to Dr. Slice's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
I think if youll just pay attention to keeping your hands in front of the clubhead and ball youll naturally do some of the things you're supposed to. I was a caster and the biggest leap in my iron game came when my instructor said to pay attention to keeping my hands in front of the clubhead through the ball. This pretty much guarantees my divot will be in front of the ball and that I will be hitting down. It also naturally pulled me forward so my weight was on my left (front) leg, my left arm was parallel to that leg and the clubhead and ball were behind (middle of stance). I almost completely stopped topping off the ball, my shots would go the same distance (unless I came in steep) and every divot was in front of every ball. You might try addressing the ball, put your weight on your left (front) foot and run your right arm parallel to your left leg. Now hit the ball. I think that's the feeling you want when you make contact. Now address the ball normally, do your swing and simply pay attention to keeping your hands in front of the clubhead as long as possible. You may end up naturally shifting your weight into proper position. -
Moving impact away from hosel

I went and had my instructor take a look. He didn't like the idea of me starting off with weight on the front of my feet. He'd rather I consciously try to not move my weight forward (perpendicular to swing path). He actually thinks my problem is that I'm too flat at the top of my backswing. I'm striking the sweet spot more often now, though some accuracy has been lost (i dont consistently hit the same spot on the club face every swing). I'll have to get some practice in and see if I can't get back to that accuracy... hopefully on the sweet spot now ;D -
I would invest in a newer used set and pick up some lessons with the rest of the money. And I'm not just speaking for you. I think whenever I buy a new set I'm going to force myself to save some and spend that money on a set of lessons. As far as I'm concerned, new clubs are primarily to boost confidence. They're not really going to improve your game. Lessons with a knowledgeable instructor is where it's at. No matter how much I learn, I constantly find that a 30 minute lesson with someone who knows my game is worth way more than a $100 club. I mean you can go ahead and buy that club. I'll buy a cheaper one, get a 30 minute lesson and hit mine better than you hit yours. I think a lot of people are reluctant to spend money on lessons, but let's get real... if you want to play better, YOU have to be better, not the club. Even pros have coaches. It's seriously worth it. Having said that, some people have a difficult time learning. Not everyone is adept in being coordinated. If you find lessons aren't helping a lot, ask your instructor if he/she has any props or specific drills you can run on your free time to help you figure things out.

Moving impact away from hosel
Andycapped replied to Andycapped's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Oh, no I don't think I'm casting. At contact my weight is on my forward (left) leg, my left arm is straight down parallel to my leg and my hands are ahead of the clubhead and ball through the swing. Like this: When I hit at the range I'll hit a ball and then place the next ball behind where the divot begins and 1 ball width over to the side. I can consistently leave a divot in front of the ball and create a straight line of mud across the stall throughout the entire bucket. When I start to run out of room I start another line ;D I'm interested in trying the other post's suggestion about putting a little weight forward on my feet -

Moving impact away from hosel
Andycapped replied to Andycapped's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Hmmm... I'm going to have to get out there and give this a try tomorrow. I don't really put my weight on the balls of my feet. I stand pretty flat footed with my weight in the center. Maybe I am leaning a bit forward as my weight when I finish is on the front of my left foot. I'll try putting a small amount of weight on the front of my feet at address and see what happens! Thanks :D -

Any ideas? -
Any ideas? I can hit an entire bucket of balls and hit just about the same spot on the club face every time. The problem is that spot is close to the hosel and I knick it every few shots. I am so sick and tired of my ball flying off right I need to move my impact left a little bit, but I can't figure out how. I can keep pushing myself farther away from the ball and I still hit the same spot. Any ideas? This is somewhere between 30 and 40 balls in a row:

I purchased this app today (the non GPS version), but Ive yet to play with it :(

I'm pretty sure there was a recent iPhone thread, but I can't find it. I aplogize for any thread duplication. Has anyone heard of the Golfshot GPS app? I looks amazing and has really good reviews. I'm interested in any STF feedback if any of you have used it. I'm very interested in both the GPS and the scorecard (and subsequently stats). www.golfshot.com
