  1. I have no idea what my lengths are, but I was in a similar situation as you. I could take out my 3, 6, or 9 and they would all have the potential to go about the same distance 125 - 175 range. The problem was definitely my swing. I was changing the angle of the club head so they were hitting the ball all about the same. Now that I am taking lessons and letting the club do the work is has been a great improvement.
  2. Had my second 1 hour lesson last night. (Lesson 1 recap - grip, stance, 1/2 swing) and we worked on my back swing and downswing through just before impact (no real turning the wrist or follow through yet - next week). I was very happy when my pro told me that my tempo was great, medium speed and very natural, but the glee only lasted until he asked me if I was swinging a golf club or chopping wood. Apparently my back swing is OK but my downswing almost comes straight down. That would explain why I am hitting behind the ball a bit and digging a huge hole (not a divot a giant sink hole) just behind my ball. we worked on flattening out my downswing, which is now very unnatural feeling, but wow... when I did contact the ball well what a difference (30 yards further and straight ) I have a lot to work on before my next lesson... but taking them was the best golf decision I ever made. TAKE A LESSON PEOPLE To be continued...
  3. Overall it is my 58* Callaway X-Forged wedge. Every time I pull it out I konw I am going to hit a good shot. Irons would be my 7 iron. I have always hit it well so I have a lot of confidence in it. Long clubs would be my 5 wood. It is another club I have always been able to hit well with.
  4. I can partially see where ramrockgolfer35 is coming from but I think he may be looking at it from the wrong perspective... I am one of those people who have not broken 100 and I have been treated with nothing but respect and when I have a question it gets answered quickly and appropriately. Where I do see some elitist feelings towards the people who do not 'break 100/90/whatever' are the strict rules snobs. Most people just ask rules questions and get clarification, but there are some out there who come across as if you don't use the rule book as a second bible and have the thing memorized you should stay off the course. (I'm sure this is not how the people feel, but it is how it comes across). I am a recreational golfer and play with my friends on the weekend. I do not participate in any events and we all play by our rules. 1 mulligan on the front and 1 on the back, if you are only a few feet OB use a foot wedge and hit from IB with no penalty. This is how I play and I am happy with it. I just disregard the comments of the people who don't like it. But there also needs to be some concessions made from 'my' style of golfer. Don't go around saying you shot an 82 and beat your friend who actually played by the rules and shot an 85. There is room on the course for both of us, and I think most people realize that.
  5. I get the same treatment and I am 30. I was shopping for my new calaway irons recently and went to 3 big stores in the area GolfSmith, Edwin Watts, and a large mom and pop shop. My first trip out I was treated like crap at all 3. I had to BEG for someone to even speak with me and when they did they tried to sell me what they wanted to, not what I was looking for. They acted like they didnt even listen to me. The next weekend I knew I was gonig to have a figh on my hands but I wanted new clubs so decided to go back to EW since it was the closest store to my house (by a significant distance) and I was going to ask for the store manager and demand service. I walked in and was actually greated by the manager and I received the best service ever. I took out several demo clubs and he ended up working with me for about 3 hours over a 2 week period. The moral of the story are these places are hit or miss and unless you get someone passionate about golf you will be dealing with a young guy that does not care or an old crotchity golf snob.
  6. After golfing 1-2 times a month for a few years now and shooting around 100 I decided it was time to get some lessons. I figured I would get a few tweaks for my swing and some minor setup changes and I would be good to go. So I went to the local PGA pro and had my first of 6 1 hour lessons last night and WOW... I had no idea how bad off I was. I took a few swings and he commented we will need to rebuild from the ground up. For most of the hour we worked on my grip and stance. I never realized that my grip was so bad, I thought it 'looked like' what they pros were doing, boy was I wrong. At the end of the lesson I took some 1/2 swings (waist high) with my 7 iron and my new setup and I could not believe the difference. Not only were they all going straight, but my 1/2 swing was going almost as far as my old 7 iron full swing. I have some practice time to work on things before my next lesson but I cant wait to see what he has to say next. For anyone who has not taken lessons, even if you have played for a few years, I highly recommend it!!!
  7. Irons can be bent, it wont hurt them... I play 3 deg upright. It means that the angle of the shaft to the club head is increased or decreased.
  8. I am getting ready to go on a trip where I need to bring my golf clubs with me. I have a nice bag boy THC-3 hard case, but it does not have TSA approved locks on it. I am afraid if I do not lock the case the latches will not stay closed. I don't really want to spend the money on a new travel case right now. Is there a good way to attach the key to the case if the TSA need to open it or are there any other options I am missing?
  9. I agree totally... I think we should even take it further... how about if you are not a scratch golfer you can't own a house on a golf course... or maybe we should make those people live under a bridge... how about if a person does not qualify for the PGA you just execute them... people who are just learning golf or who are not athletically inclined serve no purpose but to slow play... I have never been so enraged about a comment on here before... just because people don't play as well as you do does not mean they should not be able to play wherever they want. If they are holding up the people behind them to the point where it is a hindrance to the course the ranger can be contacted and it can be dealt with as needed. This is the attitude that is ruining golf.
  10. I love the Ping rain jacket and pants. (I think they call it all weather gear) It breaths well so it is not too hot for Tampa golfing and they are very affordable.

    Golf games?

+1 A classy way to go. I did the same thing for my bachelor party... Keep in mind that you don't even need to stick with the traditional variants. I have played in friendly family competitions where each hole has its own set of rules. 9 irons only on a par 4 must hit into (and out of) the sand before you can get on the green (good on a hole with a fairway sand trap as well as the ones surrounding the green) best ball on 1 hole worst ball on 1 hole scramble on 1 hole etc...
  12. I have never used them, but I have purchsed clones from GigaGolf with great results and recommend them highly.
  13. Callaway has an H5 (Big Bertha Diablo) but is is 27 deg. I ordered one this past weekend and it should be here in a week or so. http://www.callawaygolf.com/Global/e...loHybrids.html
  14. Thanks for the feedback all.. I am going to keep the demo clubs for a few more days to try and feel them out more. Has anyone used either of these clubs or does anyone have any opinions on them that could help me in my decision.
  15. After browsing at the local golf shops the past month I decided to get serious about club shopping and swing a few sets. I was convinced wanted a full hybrid set and I was looking at the Adams A3OS, Cobra Transition S, and the Cleveland HiBore. To my surprise I did not like any of them. I guess that is why it is so important to try before you buy... What I decided on was 3-5 Callaway diablo hybrid and a broken iron set 6-P. Thats where the problem came in. I hit a bunch in the shop and took a couple of 6 irons with me and loved the Callaway Big Bertha's and Taylormade Burner irons. I like the feel of both of them. With the Bertha's my distance is consistent but I am off laterally... with he Burners I am dead straight but my distances are inconsistent. Both of which I attribute to the clubs being too short for me since they are the demos and my current clubs are lengthened and upright. So what do I do from here. I have 2 sets of clubs I like and hit them about the same. Is either set superior to the other in some criteria that I may be missing or do I just flip a coin?
  16. Thanks for all of your replies... I am going to swing a couple of sets in the store to see if I hate any of them. Those that are not eliminated I am going to take out the 3/6/9 of each set and head to the range. I will post my thouhts on each after a I have had a chance to hit all of them. Right now I am focusing on Adams A3OS Cleveland HiBore Cobra Transition-s Nike Slingshot HL Any others I should take a good look at
  17. The recent thread about the walk on jerk joining the 3some got me thinking. I am a new player and dont have enogh friends who play enough for me to go out with a group all the time. I have always been worried about being added to an existing group since I am so bad. I don't want to ruin anyones good time by slowing them down too much. I only did it once and explained I am a beginner and they were cool with it, but it is very intimidating. Do you bettr golfers mind when a noob joins your group? I want to come out of the closet.
  18. Another big hander here... I use Lamkin Jumbo grips and love the extra beefy feel. Now regular grips feel like I am grabbing a pencil. Try them... you will not be disappointed.
  19. Has anyone played with a full hybrid set where every club is a hybrid right down to the 9 and PW (something like the Cobra transition-s or Cleveland HiBore). I would love to know your thoughts on these types of iron sets as I am considering purchasing one. I am going to take a few clubs out on loan this weekend to see how they feel but would like some outside input as well.
  20. I agree with the group... the morning is for the fast golfers regardless of skill. I golf with a group of VERY slow and very bad golfers. A 5 hour round is not unusual. We almost always book our tee times after 11:00. I hate being pressed so it works better for everyone.
  21. The recent thread about a lost PW go me thinking (Since I lost my PW 6 months ago and it never turned up) are there any marking systems for clubs to identify them as someones possibly engraving your phone number on the club head neck or a sticker for the shaft or something? Or a golf bag that beeps when you leave a club behind. I know this will only keep an honest person honest, but for the prce of clubs these days I want every advantage possible.
  22. Wow... I am impressed that some of your first scores were in the 100 - 110 range. On my first trip out I scored a 134... after 3 years of playing I now shoot right around 100 but have never broken it. I feel so ashamed.
  23. WFIW I always play double par as my max to keep up the pace of play.
  24. I am looking at several game improvement all hybrid style iron sets like the King Cobra Transition-s and the Cleveland HiBiore. My concern is playing out of the rough with an iron with such a wide sole and unique design. I was always told you need a thin club with a sharp edge to get out of the rough and this newer style of club is definitely not that. I have heard that they are easier to hit out of the rough since they make you come down on the ball more and the wide sole glides through the grass and come out easier and I have heard that they are harder as the sole deflects off of the grass and it is hard to get down on the ball. Obviously these are mutually exclusive opinions so which is the truth?
  25. Who has had experiences at both Golfsmith and Edwin Watts. I am starting to do some club hunting and will check out both stores, but does one generally have better staff, clubfitters, selection, etc... Is there anything I should watch out for at one or the other.
