I agree 100% with you..I am living proof..:)

Then I guess in your mind..after trying to get better, and not being able to do so, is pre-concieved ...if I had believed in beginning I'd never get better, I wouldnt have spent teh money or time...I did infact beleive if I had a good instructor I could at least learn to have a basic repeatable swing....unfortunately, it didnt work for me...but thanks for letting me know I am a lousy student, now I wont have to spend any more instruction money...I owe you one..
-
I never believed it was easy...which is why I practiced each day..and took a lesson at least once a week when possible...you can believe what you like, because it works for you doesnt mean it works for all of us...if it did, we wouldnt be posting on the breaking 100 thread...
-
Sorry I disagree with you totally...I listened and practiced many hours...it didnt work for me...Not evryone has ability to swing a golf club correctly...
-
More likely it hurts thier pocketbook to be honest with a student that has no ability and wont improve...I have yet to see any Instructor turn away business by being honest ....its thier paycheck after all...

same here, Dawg...I am 5 minutes away from that store...Guess I'll have to go to the PGA superstore if I resume playing again...They offer lessons as well...and have an indoor practice area...

Great Post Gus....I did 5.5 yrs in The AirForce, and feel very similar thoughts...I did time in Thailand and in Da Nang in the close of the Vietnam conflict...and I also Stand when its played..those that dont have that right...I also have the right to disagree with thier position...I put my life on the line for that right....

Like your Friends and or Family , I left the game also for that exact reason....

I am so frustrated and want to quit golf
Hiway1tele replied to golftlist's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
I cant agree with you more...and because of it I have quit and walked away from the game...2 years of lessons, and significant money later, and hundreds of hours practice, to no avail...same lousy swing, same inconsistant shots, same lousy score... -

If anyone is interested, a well known Instructor, Shawn Clements, will be doing a group clinic in Dallas and San Antonio in October...he ask me if I was interested, but I am not playing any longer, so i thought I'd let people in this thread know...for the People that can improve that are +30 golfers, he probably can help you...he is a good teacher....if this violates any rules for this forum, My apologies in advance... -

Glad something worked for you....and that you are better than before...Lessons, practice, whatever, nothing seems to overcome the lack of ability...I have come to the realization that people with zero ability to swing a club will never get any better...you will play +30 scores a different way...but it will still be +30...and it will still be no fun hitting lousy shots one after the other...I'll leave the rest of this year to those of you that enjoy the game...at this point I am fed up with it and consider the lessons and the time a waste.. -

Well spent most of the day practicing swinging....No surprise I sucked worse than usual...I was at least consistant...as many right pulls as left....Bob Costas remark in his Feherty interview fits me perfectly I guess...I sucked before lessons, and now I suck a diff way after lessons...probably time to donate the clubs to 1st Tee... -

You are correct...anytime I play with someone I dont know, that I get paired with..I usually play lousy...a nerve, Psychology issue as you say...when I play the local course late evnings by myself, I play far better...probably just my lack of confidence in my golf swing..I used to have the lookup issue as well...would top every shot that I looked up on...now I just swing thru it and pull it left and right...which is why I gave it up for this year...maybe I'll pick it back up next spring... -

usually when you dont care about the score or in the above case, you are just trying to finish, the pressure is off and you play better...anytime I went out and tried to shoot a predetermined score, like breaking 90 or whatever, I played crappy and let frustration and tempers get in the way...when I went out and didnt care about the score, I played much better...unfortunately for me, I expect to play well each time and dont have the talent do so...so it becomes a bad day very quickly.... -

Thus far I have given it up and havent played all summer...and really havent missed it either....Maybe I'll put it on the shelf until next year and see if I miss the game at all...if not, I will be that much less frustrated and probably doing something more productive than pretending that I would actually improve at this game....I am glad to some of the guys actually playing better... -

I dont turn in that high per hole, but the issue is the same...an inconsistant long swing, and I am going to take Double on the whole...my goal is +9 on 9 holes...2 doubles or more ruins that goal...Like your self, I chip on and 2 putt most every hole for 3 shots..sometimes for two if my chips are dialed in...the difference in a Single or double is an errant long swing..when its on, life is good...when its off, I may as well walk away... -

It all comes down to a good fundamental, consistant swing with the bigger clubs...without that, you play high scores...the best short game wont cover a consistantly crappy swing from the big clubs...on the rare days when I can keep my Driver and Hybrids straight in front of me, and not hit 10 degree Pull Hooks or open shots, I play a great round...Most days, when the swing sucks, so does my score...as others in this thread have all agreed on, to get from 100 to 90, you need a consistant accurate swing...if your swing is inconsistant, the scores will be that way also...I have never had a double or triple because of my short game...I have had many due to a crappy swing... -
Sorry, Patch..Good teachers find ways to reach students...the 4th teacher found the way to explain the swing layers and function so I could understand how to learn it...its the teachers job to figure out how to teach it to teh student they are teaching...in my case, 75% of them failed at that...and I practiced every day what I was being taught...

Breaking Bad Club - A Thread for Golfers Trying to Break 100

It was cooler than anticipated, so I played my regular course..another lousy day of crap swings with long clubs..left pulls, left pull hooks, I should have just walked off after a few holes and went home..Played a +12 on the front side...and a +8 on the back side...Par is 72, so I took home a 92...no thanks to my sh%t of a swing...fortunately my decent short game save many Bogeys and a few pars... -
My experience with instruction has been a total waste of time...two independant pro teachers, neither of who could teach anything to a beginner...3 diff coaches at GolfTec, two of which couldnt figure out how to teach a basic swing to a beginner, The 3rd who is the mgr of the facility, finally taught me the basic of the swing..so effectively 1 out 4 instructors had teh ability to teach a 30 hcp player how to have a basic swing thats repeatable and advances to the hole...It always amazes me how many so-called instructors will promise high hcp players with no ability all this improvement, take thier money, and at the end, teh player basically gets nothing from it....sports instruction in my opinion is one of teh biggest con games there is...

Played last nite, the front 9 at a longer course than I normally play..The harder of the two they have.. 7 +1's, 1 +2 and 1 par, for a 45 score..will probably be my last day of golf for a while, as the triple digits of summer arrive this week...
