  1. I read Iacas's Blog post and agree with it totally...Because my right hand was surgically cut on, I cant swing hard with big clubs, as my grip is to weak..because of this, I learned to swing slower and keep it straight in front of me..I hit my driver 180-200 yds, usually no more than 20 yards off the target line...My # 3 Hybrid maybe goes 160, #4 goes maybe 145...not a lot of distance by any means..my short game is reasonably good...I can break 100 easily on my long or short course in my area, just by taking easy straight swings...like Ernie Els does..and then 2 putting for a + 1 on most of the holes...as @iacas says, I wont get better than this, but a lot of that is my hands and lack of ability to turn any faster than I do...my goal was to improve from a +35 to +18 or so, and I have accomplished that..with my temperment, playing consistant clean shots was more of an issue than anything else...I am happy to be a 90 player...
  2. Played a longer Course today, than I usually play..Ended up with a +22, a +10 front, a +12 back...Tee shots were straight out..no complaints..First few fairway shots were to the left..so I slowed the hybrid/Iron shots way down..that kept it in front of me..all in all a 92 on a long course isnt too bad I guess... Front nine = 8 bogeys, 1 Double Bogey Back nine = 6 Bogeys, 3 Double Bogeys..
  3. If you work to get on the greens in 3 ( for Par-4's) and two put, you can play a bogey round or very close, each time...Thats how I approach it...my goal every outing is to never take more than a +1 per hole..I get close on 2, chip it on for 3, and 1 or 2 put...figure out where in that sequence you losing strokes...big clubs, small clubs, putter...if its the big swings, slow it down and keep it straight...
  4. a consistant repeatable swing is what got me to play a consistant repeatable score...its taken 3 years of some lessons and daily practice to get there for me..
  5. Played the usual front 9 at my regular course, last night and tonite...last night a +6, 42...Tonite a +7, 43...My Tee shots were reasonably straight, within 20 yards of center..still cant seem to make the hybrids and 7-Iron swing like I should..I did actually hit a few 3-H shots straight out within an acceptible range of center..My short game was able to cover the fairway shots so the scores were still decent...tonites session was 2 pars, 7 bogeys...no doubles, no stupid holes...my short game is getting dialed in if I can continue to play more...however summer heat is here..so we will see if I can stay playing ....
  6. I played this evening in the heat and wind...wasnt too bad, Carded a 92..a few shots were off center, nothing terrible, +10 on the front and +12 on the back side...no real blowups, just a lil out of sync on most shots..due to not playing as often as i would like...all in all it wasnt a bad outing, other than teh 96F temps...
  7. there are good shots ? if your a 17, I suppose so..when your a 30 player, almost never...
  8. couldnt agree more...I fixed one thing, then it causes something else...or I turn back, then not thru the impact enough and it goes open 8-10 degrees...compensate for the no-turn, and it pulls and hooks left...I am surprised that my clubs are still in one piece...
  9. I wonder how well the Inept decision By the USGA to wait till the Round was over, Leaving all players in a state of not knowing what the score was, or how they needed to play, would work in the Tennis or NFL world...maybe a Field Goal wins it, maybe not..we will tell you after the game...Mike Davis and his crew of Morons should resign...period.
  10. Isnt that what the RO in the field decided...The penalty should have been made right then and there...not two hours after the fact..
  11. Brandle should call them out...show me any other sport, including tennis, where you have to play the game not knowing what the score will be till its over...Thats BS..If the RO in the field cant make a decision, he shouldnt be there..as Rory Later said, stop play and get a decision, and then move on with play knowing whats what..The USGA deserves all the fire its getting and more...
  12. and I have had many Golf Coaches that cant teach whatsoever...because you can play under par, doesnt mean you can teach someone with no ability to understand and learn the game of golf...I was lucky to have found maybe 3 that could teach and actually help students learn to play...
  13. some days you just dont have it...happens to all of us..congrats on your terrific round... I had a lesson Friday..the Video shows for the first time ever , there is no over the top in my swing any longer...its starting to be consistanly in-out..all the hard work is paying off...
  14. Congrats Tod...a step in the right direction.... another rain day...oh well, saved me from more push Hooks I guess...Played a bunch of practice rounds on the Golf-Sim...at least two Hooks per round...gets old quick having a nice swing end up 40 yards to the left...
  15. Sorry I'll refrain from straying...my bad...
  16. Randall, On The Pro side I would say its the short game..DJ, Bubba, Rory can all punch it long, but dont necessarily play position courses very well..In The amateur 90/100 players world I agree with you totally..a good short game can only cover a bad swing so far...when I sucked at the full swing, was right and left in trees and ponds, my better than avg short game maybe allowed me a +36...now with a consistant straight or in/out swing and a good short game, I play a +18-20..I played this evening and had +7 front side, a + 8 back side..My tee shots landed on all 14 fairways..I par'd and Birdied a Par-3..I did take a +7 on a par-4, after a great tee shot, only because I looked up before impact..Stupid human error..an improved consistant swing has saved me minimally 10-12 shots per round...now I need to correct the Hybrids that are going further left than I would like..
  17. Okay, we all have good areas and bad areas...where are the high scores coming from ? The big swings, the small swings, or a combination ? Golf is very hard without natural ability..and your practice needs to address and work on what will make you better...practicing the same wrong move wont fix anything..I practice 2hrs each day, but until I got some instruction on how to fix my old, horrible swing, nothing got better...after 3 years of working with a coach, and practicing at home each day...I have improved finally from 110 to around 90 or so..and have a consistant swing I can play with...
  18. Thats close enuff for me...I will get there for the Players either next year or the one after...been on my too do list for awhile...
  19. so your home course is sawgrass ?
  20. Lloyd , I bought an Optishot LED swing and software analyzer a few years ago...I have a 27" monitor and a windows Laptop with the software on it..I have a den I use for my office with high ceilings, and use it there..it works well if you have Florescent or natural white lights and silver/chrome clubs..as the infra-red LED's can reflect the lite from the clubs ...If it works in your environment, it will give reasonable results for swing speed, distance, flight path, direction, and impact and tempo...when I first started using it again, 2 months ago, I was pulling shots either right or left...the left shots were over the top, outside in and down the left side...The right slices were also a result of the outside in causing the ball to rotate to the right...working with the Optishot, and a swing coach...I have slowly gotten the swing to either be straight or inside out, depending on how long I practice as my body quits turning correctly after a couple of hrs off and on during the day...for teh first month I just used the driving range..to get my swing changed..and to make the pieces of the swing 2nd nature...my two issues were a straight left arm, distance from the ball, and my hip/shoulders not turning...as of now, 95% of my shots are either draws or straight lines..no slices, no pulls, no over the tops..
  21. The hardest part is taking it from the range to the Course....thats been the hardest part for me...but being able to practice with a decent Golf Simulator that tells me if my swing is striaght, inside out, sliceing, open, closed, etc, has helped tremendously...this has helped cut my +100 scores down to low 90's...
  22. must be nice..congrats..
  23. Broke 100 Practice 2 hrs each day..
  24. How do the awards that show up on peoples post work ?
