  1. I figured it kind of made sense for the challenge, especially since (in this case) I skipped two of the harder greens to hit in regulation.
  2. 6/15: 10 minutes of putting in the hallway. Playing in the morning if it doesn't rain.
  3. 6/14: Got busy and almost forgot to practice, so just 5 minutes of wall drill again.
  4. 6/13: Weather still sucks. Beautiful all day at work, then rain when I got home. 5 minutes of wall drill in the mirror.
  5. 6/12: A little under the weather this evening, spent about 10 minutes putting in the hallway, focus on start line.
  6. So, I've played golf four times since I started these challenges but have only managed to post one eligible round! 56% on nine holes split between the front and back (apparently doesn't count), <30% on Saturday when I had trouble with the app and device (so that worked in my favor), and had a good chance at 50%+ today when I was interrupted by lightning after six holes. Forecast shows rain every day for the next two weeks, but it's Florida...weather forecasts are pretty useless after May.
  7. 6/11: Got six holes in this afternoon before the lightning showed up. Four over with 3 pars, 2 singles, and a double. Lots of rain the past week but course was in great shape. Greens are filling in and speeding up (since the aeration a while back)...I knocked three 10-footers almost 5-feet passed the hole, something I almost never do. Other than that, driver is getting more dependable with each round and irons were working well from the start, which was nice. Also had a couple good shots with my 3W.
  8. 6/10: Played 18 today, shot 91. Didn't get much time to warm-up and had trouble finding my swing early on. Had a few quick doubles that dragged down the score right from the start. So, so from there until the back nine when I found a groove, won 8 holes straight and finished, up 3 skins.
  9. My hips have a tendency to sway back (away from the target) on the backswing...
  10. 6/9: Nothing special tonight, just 5 minutes of wall drill.
  11. 6/8: Pitching practice tonight. 15 minutes pitching at different targets in the yard. Only focus was not going too fast and enjoying the evening.
  12. Week One Results It's the end of week one! So far, we have 20+ participants in each challenge, and about half have posted a round. @iacas squeaks in a late nine-hole entry and uses his putter to take the top spot in the overall challenge to end the week. Fighting it out for second, and the top spot among eligible TST members, @coachjimsc and @JxQx have both posted matching 72% and 56% rounds and sit equal on GIR% and the tie-breaking PPH. Jeff appears to have the more consistent putter, but it's way too early to start calling things, now. @Valleygolfer started strong out of the gate and sits in the #4 spot, ready to strike, with @b101 using a hot putter to snag the final spot in the top 5 this week for the overall challenge. In the single round challenge, a non-TST member (as far as I know?) sets the bar high at 78%. Just a single green behind, @coachjimsc and @JxQx are, again, equal on GIR%. This time, though, consistency with the putter only matters for 18 holes. @iacas's 67% only grabs him 4th here so he has some work remaining to keep his reputation intact (), while @Valleygolfer stands tall in the 5th spot and proves he has the chops to contend. For anyone new to the thread, both challenges run through June 30th and @iacas offered to match me on the prize, so there's a pair of TST ball markers on the line for each challenge. 13. 6/7: Had a small break in the rain this evening and managed to get a little alone time in the front yard with my sand wedge. It's only been a few days, but I missed her. 5 minutes of slow-mo swings w/o ball, focus on hip turn/no sway, then 5 minutes of "easy" shots, focus on contact and tempo.
  14. 6/6: Same, more putting. That time of year. Supposed to see the sun again on Thursday.
  15. 6/5: Putting practice in the hallway. Aim and start line.
  16. 6/4: Busy day but managed to get a little pitching practice in, alternating shots between a few different targets in the front yard.
  17. Guess I missed it. All I saw was complaining about how someone else lives their life and implications that daddy being rich should make everything okay. My apologies, didn't realize this was such a touchy subject for you.
  18. to me. (Time for bed. )
  19. I was waiting for you to post a round, @coachjimsc. With a 70% average (well, now 71% average ), I knew you'd be one of the one's to beat. Seven rounds submitted so far, and it looks like the early bar has been set at 13 greens. I managed to sneak a round in this morning before it stormed, but only managed three %-points higher than my average, with seven greens. Long road ahead, especially for the overall. This may end up being a sort of, "it's an honor just to be nominated" kind of thing, for me.
  20. Seriously. Literally took me 3 seconds to search google and find this...and it's from Jordan Spieth's web site! http://www.jordanspiethgolf.com/news/pga-of-america-name-cameron-mccormick-as-2015-pga-teacher-of-the-year From the article: For the past nine years, McCormick has worked with second-ranked golfer Jordan Spieth, winner of the 2015 Masters and U.S. Open, as his exclusive instructor in all aspects of the game. With Spieth’s mounting success this year, the golfer has given much of the credit to McCormick. “I have complete trust in anything he says, he’s my swing coach, putting coach, short game coach, mental coach, everything,” said Spieth.
  21. Golf is an individual sport, though. Phil's not on a team, so there's no obligation to play to not, "let the team down"; and there are clearly no requirements to play in the US Open in any of his endorsement contracts, or he'd probably be playing. And there it is! It's not just her HS graduation (although that would be enough). Thank you for the post, @DeadMan. I feel like I'm on slashdot...misleading headlines, no reference links or citations, and people bashing someone for being human. Phil is people, too. Now, like a typical slashdot user, I'll not google it myself and continue to speak as if I know the 'whole' story now. Obviously, "anyone" - "can do it". It's not about that. It is a milestone, and a big one for most teenagers/parents/families in America. Babies "leaving the nest", big brothers and sisters leaving siblings behind, leaving pets, friends, and other such things. It can be a big deal. YMMV.
  22. 6/3: Played 18 this morning before the thunderstorms arrived. Shot a 14 over, 87 (43/44). Driver was working well again, irons too, but a few got away from me a bit; and I'm back to topping my 3-wood so I'll have to get some range time with it in soon.
  23. Agreed. I can normally find a hot streak, but keeping it going an entire round is another matter. I don't necessarily mind the combined (9- or 18-hole rounds) challenge, but I'd like the option. Also, having handicapping options of some sort would be nice. I wanted to do total number of GIRs for all rounds for the overall challenge -- since someone could also have just one really high GIR% round and take both challenges -- but % was the only GIR stat available. I'm gonna tell myself I can win it and try to stay focused on the goal, but realistically, well...same here. In all honesty, though, I think my biggest hope is that at the end of the challenge, my stats prove to my brain (once and for all) that it's the correct strategy on the course.
  24. This Speedcart GT in Gunmetal-Red would look nice with my Seminole bag strapped into it! I've recently started walking after work once or twice a week and have really enjoyed it. I don't mind carrying and like the extra workout, but with the weather turning warm here, having a slick cart like this to do the heavy lifting would allow me to enjoy the golf more. It'd also speed me up quite a bit so I could play more holes before the sun goes down!
