  1. I'm rooting for both you guys!
  2. Congrats on the 83! I notice you had a few sand saves and a bunch of GIR. Eventually those two putts will be one putts and you'll be bragging about your 5 birdies and 8 pars instead of 10 pars!
  3. Left my PW on a hole once. I was driving around looking for it, asking all the groups behind me. I finally asked one guy who said no, but I just didn't like the way he looked. I pressed him about it and he said, "oh you mean this PW?" The jerk was going to keep it. That being said I've met a lot of very considerate people on the course who would never do such a thing.
  4. Joruss, you said that they moved some of the par 3's up etc... Do you know this ahead of time so you will adjust what clubs you carry? For example, if you knew that the 220yd par 3 was going to be 180yds instead you might leave the hybrid in the bag and carry an extra wedge instead. Do they tell you this ahead of time or is everything completely "blind?"
  5. His joke reminds me of another one So if Osama bin Laden and a lawyer are standing on the edge of a cliff, who do you kick off first? Osama bin Laden. Business before pleasure. If there are any lawyers out there who want me to apologize.... Feherty's comment was a joke, no more or less vicious or serious than other jokes told by people (on both sides) with or without generalities. That specific people were mentioned instead of a group of people (e.g. lawyers, politicians) makes little or no difference.
  6. Indeed. After being hit I yell fore too often. Better safe than sorry.
  7. If I'm on the putting green and there are remnants of an old golf ball on the green (i.e. the skin of a ball), can I remove them as a movable obstruction or otherwise? I think I can remove them under 24-1a, but somebody told me I cannot.
  8. I was playing with a friend last year in the spring. It was real early in the season, so it was a practice round for both of us and we weren't concerned about keeping score, we were just happy to be out of the house. Well, I fountain my first tee shot about 40 yards. My friend is still taking a few practice swings, so I run out and get it. Then I go off to the side of the course so he can tee off. I'm at about a 45 degree angle to his right... then he smacks his drive off the toe and a line drive goes straight at me and hits my upper inner thigh about an inch lower than my crotch. I felt that bruise for two months. I learned an important lesson that day: don't be stupid.
  9. Last year I bought a hybrid and after about 9 months of use the shaft snapped right at the clubhead taking part of the head with it too(the metal part of the hosel was damaged). I was pretty angry and brought it back to where I got it. They decided they would give me a free reshafting of another club for me, but wouldn't/couldn't fix my hybrid or replace it. I haven't been back to that store, which shall remain unnamed. Unfortunately I wasn't at the range at the time, I was playing against some friends and it disintegrated on my second shot of a par 5.
  10. Those are certainly great shots. I'm nowhere near where you are in the swing department, but I have a question. I noticed that when you pivot your rear foot it doesn't just roll onto the toes, but at the very end it skips and ends up replanting maybe and inch or so from where it would be if it just rolled over. Is this the result of just having a full follow through?
  11. I was hitting off mats with my irons for about a year. I couldn't figure out why my ball striking on the course wasn't the same as off the mats. Then I realized that I was hitting them fat in the grass because I could get away with that on the mats, so that is how my swing was adjusted. I ended up sweeping my irons from the grass for a few weeks as I gradually got my swing grooved into playing properly from the grass. So you are doing the right thing by avoiding the mats. You will learn a lot faster.
  12. There was also a thread around here a while back about how water seeps into balls over time and will hurt the performance of the golf ball. Used ones might not give the performance you are looking for... but I guess that is something only you can find out on a ball by ball basis.
  13. I wonder if that includes fees for mapping out the course on GPS? It still shouldn't be that high. In reality, somebody owns a patent (which might not even hold up in court!) and the litigation costs are higher than the profit potential for another firm to come in and compete.
  14. To the OP, I took lessons all winter and now I feel reasonably confident with my irons. It's really only my third summer playing, but I bought a used set of MP-32s off the Callway preowned site. The entire set cost around $270 (there was a promotion, now it would be closer to $310). I have only had the chance to take them to the course twice, but I really enjoy these things. I have spent some time at the range, however, and I will keep spending time at the range/lessons to get my swing down pat, but I don't regret my decision at all.

    Driving Range

I agree, but every time I play the local muni I find at least three range balls. I like to bring them back to the range and switch them for premium balls that people hit when they just want to hit one more ball. I have a friend that owns a range and he said that people do it all the time. They want to hit just one more ball, so instead of asking for one more ball they take a mid-priced ball out of their bag and hit it onto the range.
