  1. I had the best ball striking range session I can remember last night. The changes I've been trying to implement for the last stretch of time all seemed to click. Steady head (I felt like my head didn't move at all) and the shorter backswing (stop when the shoulders are done turning) really felt great. I added one other thing that I read on here as well, and that was pulling the left arm down and through the downswing as fast as you can (I'm sure I'm paraphrasing). The result was the highest, straightest shots I've hit in some time. Lots of centered club face contact as well. I can't wait to see if this translates to the course on Friday. This site has been unreal levels of help for me.
  2. I shot 87 three times out in a row, about a month or so ago. Then I've gotten a little erratic and dipped back into the low and middle 90s. Penalties and flat out mishits, I've lost a little consistency for some reason. I believe the answer is focus, both at the range and on each individual shot. We won't talk about 3-putts. :)
  3. Baseball is the greatest thing ever. Lifelong (well, since the age of 3) Yankees fan, and a few years after that discovered there were other tv channels and got into the Mets as well. So, I'm that oddball doing the unthinkable, rooting for both NY teams. My wife and I go down to spring training every year for a week. It's one of my versions of heaven. Love it love it love it.
  4. Horrible start notwithstanding, let's go Rangers.
  5. Been playing once a week, with one to two range sessions mixed in as well.
  6. Get some of those foam practice balls and attach them to the ends of the arrows. He can shoot his way around the course with a bow. :)
  7. I got to play my first round ever with my dad and my son earlier this summer. That was really cool. I hope we manage to get in a few more in the future. My son will outdrive me a good bit. I think its awesome to watch. He's improving by leaps and bounds. Watching him play well is every bit as fun and doing so myself.
  8. Thanks for the welcomes. :) He is very much into it, yes. We play together, go to the range, and try to help and encourage each other the best we can. It's been a blast.
  9. I've lurked and read the forums on this site quite a bit. Great site, and tons of truly amazing info. It's enjoyable reading through some of the older threads and seeing the progress so many have made. Anyway, briefly about me. My son (who is 19) came to me last year wanting to get into golf. I hadn't played in about 25 years (I'm 48) and when I did back then it was maybe 20 rounds total at most. We went and took lessons to try and learn the fundamentals of learning a swing. Since then lots of range buckets and 18 when we can, maybe once a week on both during the season. Last year I started with wanting to break 100. Then 95. Finally at the very end of the season I shot 89. Got back to it this year very rusty and took some work to get back there, but my last three rounds have been 90, 87, 87. So I've broken 90, with plenty of assistance from the advice and tips I've read here. Now the hope is taking the next steps towards 80. :)
  10. Amen there. My next range day (hopefully tonight) is going to be all about fairway woods and long irons. I've struggled with those recently. Not that there's any shortage of things for me to work on and improve, but that's my current focus.
  11. I'm not even sure if I've posted on the site yet. If I'm out of line posting in this thread, I apologize. I've lurked and read the forums on this site quite a bit. Great site, and tons of truly amazing info. Anyway, briefly about me. My son (who is 19) came to me last year wanting to get into golf. So I've broken 90, with plenty of assistance from the advice and tips I've read here, and of course in Lowest Score Wins. I've read it, and refer back to it often. I also plan to sign up for Evolvr in the near future, in hopes of talking the next steps towards 80. That's my shenaniganery. :)
