  1. Had a 78 in the July Medal a couple of weeks ago
  2. I don't mind ladies tees, I play a reasonably short course and there are a number of holes where i imagine a large proportion of the ladies would struggle to reach the fairway even from men's tees. Even multiple sets of tees for men are fine, whats the point in having a championship course with tees 100 yards further forward then they should be, or likewise being forced to play 100 yards back from what you're capable of. But surely if you are playing with a specific group of people or in a competition, you all play off the same tees? You can't have a match or competition playing what is a essentially a different course, is the handicap system not designed to limit the effect of not being as long off the tee? I understand @disco111is saying he struggles to play to 5 currently but will his handicap not reflect that change over time and then he should be in a position to compete with his playing partners again.
  3. Is playing off different tees common practice in a competitive round? Or are these rounds just meant for fun?
  4. Apologies, should have worked that out when 9 irons were mentioned.
  5. I recently had a lesson in chipping, just short stuff around the greens, she had me playing shots forward of middle but really moving the ball around based on what kind of flight i was looking for. If i needed to pop the ball up she was saying do the same swing and play the ball off the front foot. The idea was to use the bounce of the club.
  6. I ha a read through the thread actually. Sounded like a great trip! Haven't played a huge amount over that side of the country, however I have played Enniscrone. It must have been the nicest day they have ever had, not a breath of wind. Resulted in one of my best rounds ever, although i was playing off a much higher handicap. I pretty much exclusively play on the South side of Dublin and almost all of the rounds are Inter-club matches. I'm glad you enjoyed the trip across and hopefully will return!
  7. He's great apart from that!! Yeh his (and others) attitude about these things sucks sometimes. And it isn't every time he plays, but once is too many times in my view.
  8. I've been buying Tour Preferred X balls for a couple of years and really like them. I think they have a terrific feel off all of the clubs. I Don't buy ball that often due to price and being a student there are far better things to spend money on, so I do play with quite a range of balls. I am definitely a snob when it comes to balls too. I recently bought a box of chrome soft's due to the rave reviews they have received from a few YouTubers.
  9. I play with a lot with a couple of friends my age who both play off 5. One is a golf fanatic, spends all day at the club fixes just about every pitch mark he sees. The other guy, will fix his a lot of the time, but not every time and has genuinely said "that pitch mark isn't mine" when I've asked him to repair some. He just doesn't really care to be honest. Drives me mad!!
  10. HI! My name is Andrew and as you can tell I am from Ireland. I'm currently 20 years old and have been playing golf for about 5 or 6 years. I have (generally) been improving all the time and currently play off 11. I've visited these forums a few times over the last while and eventually decided to sign up. There is some really good discussion. I made a deal with my dad that if i can get to single figures before he gets off 28 I can get custom fit for a new set of clubs, so it's nice to have a good goal to work towards. If I get a chance I'll take some videos of my swing for the my swing thread to hear what ideas everyone has (is an iPhone video enough for that or does the quality need to be higher?) Looking forward to the conversations!
  11. That just opens up the avenue for people to claim they were "accidentally touching it a little" when they were testing the sand or just trying to gain any sort of advantage. That's what I like about the majority of golf's rules, there's no real ambiguity. You touched the sand or you didn't. Simple
  12. With the holding calls in football is it not accepted practice? In that sense the majority of sports have elements where players bend rules to gain advantages, I know it happens in golf but is it in my opinion far less accepted and as you say some people expect this from golf. I'm in agreement with what you say at the end.
  13. While i agree with this after the event, and that there is no real point arguing with an officials view and whether it was right or wrong, I do believe that if the technology available allows for the correct conclusion to be reached, it should absolutely be used.
  14. Do you not find getting the correct outcome to be massively important, and feel that sports, especially major, worldwide, multi-million dollar sports should avail of these reviews when available. I think they work very well with the TMO in rugby and the use of Hawkeye is tennis. Of course some systems need to be reviewed such as the new system used for rugby which seems to have affected the flow of the game which isn't good either. I find the NFL system works reasonably well too
  15. It's a tough one. As you say the committee would have to ignore evidence. Not sure that's the right way to go. That being said I'm not a fan of people at home and broadcasters highlighting these issues to officials. I remember the Jason Day thread last week and since a rules official was present, his seemingly blatant breaking of the rules in many peoples eyes, wasn't punishable.
  16. I'd be really interested to hear all of your opinions on guns. Here in Ireland pretty much everyone thinks the gun laws are absolutely crazy. Obviously i don't know all of the ins and outs and i can see how the situation has gotten passed the stage where people would be willing to give up the right to carry.
  17. Holding a wedge anything more than 65 yards out. The terror
