  1. If the first couple in a set don't come off easy with air, I cut the rest off.
  2. Not answering the question, but adding to the discussion. I always have considered myself pretty darn good with my wedges. I recently purchased a Cleveland CG14 56* 2 dot (14* bounce). I cannot begin to tell you how much better I hit this thing with the extra bounce than I did my old wedge which had 10* bounce. It really eats the rough for breakfast, and I feel absolutely no penalty when I hit it off of a tight lie. I also have no trouble hitting flop shots when I'm on the short side of the green. I always picked lower bounce wedges before for added flexibility. No longer.
  3. The only restriction that I'm aware of, is that it's not a good idea to do Winn grips like this. You can do a full set of clubs in less than half of the time it takes doing it the old fashioned way. As far as the tape goes, I removed the old 2 sided tape, and then put on regular 2" single sided tape. There is absolutely no shifting of the grip, and the sizing is constant. I now believe that the 2 sided tape is just a slippery surface to slide the grips over when drenched with solvent. I should also add that you'll want a compressor with a tank on it. You'll be using a lot of air. Also, the air sprayers with the trigger.
  4. The .580 on a .600 shaft will produce a slightly midsize grip. Just snug the shafts in the vise until they don't move and you'll be fine. If you have an air compressor, that makes the job go real quick and clean. Google it for videos on how to.
  5. I'm really considering adding the 5h to my bag. I can hit my 5i well, but it entirely depends on the day. See HCP.
  6. The PETA HQ is in Norfolk, VA. When I was stationed there, a local radio station had an annual PETA Bass fishing tournament right outside of PETA's building on Chesapeake Bay. That show; Tommy & Rumble were always ragging on them. Oh yeah, my thoughts on PETA... Useless bag of self righteous idiots... or something like that.
  7. I got bored and googled him apparently he's a Hank Williams Jr. fan. http://www.google.com/search?q=Georg...ient=firefox-a
  8. I went to the '03 US Open at Oak Hill in Rochester, NY. You can wear pretty much anything. I wore what I usually wear when I go do stuff which is a Polo and cargo shorts, you know, generally presentable. They did have a rule of no Golf Shoes. I wondered who the hell would wear golf shoes as a spectator. I thought it would be like wearing a helmet to watch a race. Evidently people do it though. I wouldn't mind seeing more girls wearing an outfit like your avatar.
  9. I think an important thing to add for the newbies is that good tempo doesn't necessarily mean slow. Too slow can do as many bad things as too fast. Rather good tempo means everything happens in balance and harmony, in a proper sequence.
  10. See handicap for relevance. I agree with everyone so far. Since fixing my swing which was way too flat, I occasionally have problems with my 3 wood and to a lesser extent, my driver. What I've found is that I'm getting too steep of a swing plane with D & 3w. Flattening that out and swinging around the body a bit more seems to correct that. It's my understanding (makes sense if you look at the clubs) that the wedges will have the most upright swing and then the plane progressively flattens out as you go through the longer ones. Sure, the mechanics are the same, but a longer shaft will have to be taken into account.
  11. I agree with the person who talked about the group mentality. I am in a league so I'm going to have to say no. The league I'm in has all kinds of golfers; Scratch all the way to 36 HCPers. We have a league to have a good time and get away from the wives. Many of the guys drink out on the course, and a few treat every putt like a million dollars. I will tell you one thing however, none of us would ever tolerate behavior like that. Even the poorest of golfers on our league are very aware and practice golf etiquette. 20 vs 1 is pretty tough odds, the owner or manager is a dink. So it's a tough call as to what to do. What ever you choose, you'll be in the right, unless of course it involves a felony.
  12. I kicked the 5w out of my bag in favor of a 3h. The reason being that I hit my 3h almost as far, but it is way more accurate and controllable than my old 5w. At my skill level and that distance, I'm just happy to keep it out of the bunkers and rough around the green allowing for more accurate chips. The 3h typically lets me do that.
  13. I don't have any glass in my shoe Back story: A few years ago I was playing a round and playing it quite well. All throughout the front nine my foot kept getting pricked by something in my shoe. I kept taking my shoe off and couldn't find what it was. On 13th tee I finally found a piece of glass stuck in my foot and promptly threw it away. I started shooting very badly for the next few holes. So naturally, I explained to my playing partner that we had to go back to the 13th tee to get that piece of glass so I could put it back in my shoe.
  14. I just bought a sleeve of three to try out. These are definitely my new ball. Sure, they aren't the best I've used, but the best I've used aren't worth the extra $20-25 more for my needs.
  15. That's exactly what I'm talking about; let it happen. I realized I needed to work on tempo when I was watching swing videos of the old time guys like Hogan and Sneed. The old time guys seem so much looser in general. There was also that thread on the book 'Tour Tempo'. I kept working on positions and other standard golf swing instruction, but nothing was coming together. Tempo was the missing link that made it all happen. Unfortunately it is like learning to ride a bike which must be felt to learn, and so it is hard to describe. In summary, Tempo puts all of that swing theory together.
  16. Believe it or not, I was actually thinking about making love. You have to commit to what you are doing, but still be tender and gentle. That and watching my divots on practice swings. When the divot was in the right place, the tempo was right. The more I did that, the easier it was to remember what felt right. General swing thoughts were as follows: -Turn back -Start with legs/hips -Follow through Like I said before, my key visual clue was my divot. Before I looked up I could tell what the ball was going to do by the divot. If I got too fast, I would hit it thin or hook it or both. If I went too slow I would hit fat or push/slice.
  17. Golf epiphany: I worked on Tempo, and Tempo alone today at the range and during league. It suddenly made clean ball striking an almost casual affair. Hitting from the inside, hitting down on the ball, and squaring the club face become automatic and completely natural. Keeping tempo during a round when you have to accomplish certain shots is the trick. Ultimately I prevailed. Of course I didn't score well tonight because when ball striking improves, the putting goes down the crapper. This happens in order to maintain the fundamental equilibrium of the universe. I can't count how many times I turned birdie and par opportunities into bogies and double bogies. Thank you golf! My point is that sometimes all that needs to be worked on is the feel of golf, and to not obsess over the minutia of the swing.
  18. Big Bertha 2007 Easiest fairway wood off the deck AND tee. Paradoxically so I might add.
  19. I always play a greenside bunker shot as an intentional miss. Open stance and club face, ball 1-2 inches forward. Take a 3/4 swing. Nothing special. Fairway bunkers...
  20. Near our family summer house, the is a golf course that I frequent during vacations. This thing is a cow pasture, but it's fun. What I don't get about the greens is that they WILL NOT hold a pitch. The ball bounces and often rolls off. However when it comes time to putt, they are sooooo sloooow. I can't get this straight in my head, it seems so contradictory. Others have made the same observation, so I know I'm not crazy...
  21. +1 to that. I hope I didn't sound that mean... I was only talking about myself. If it helps you play better by keeping you focused,by all means, do it. I was just trying to give a pep talk.
  22. I am bleeding after trying this. Did I do something wrong?
  23. I have a hard time wayching anything non-HD anymore. Even my girlfriend doesn't like watch SD programming anymore. And she thought it was stupid to spend that much on an HDTV. The problem with HDTV is that it turns everyone over the age of 7 into a video snob. Try watching the movie Apocalypto. It's absolutely stunning. Back to the original topic, HD is the only way to get my girlfriend to watch golf... "Wow that's pretty!"
  24. +1 I went through that with clubs, the bag, towel, umbrella, etc. Then I felt like a dink because it seemed like I was tryting to look sponsored. No company in their right mind would sponsor me. Try various putters at different lengths. Though I am 6'1" tall and 35" wrist to floor, I putt the best with 33" putters. So long it is a heel shafted model, it really doesn't matter what make or model the putter is for me. I just trimmed my dad's putter to 34". Suddenly he's deadly inside 10 ft. He's my golf partner, so that's a good thing. I think 35" putters are too long for most people because they don't let your arms hang naturally. I think that's important in order to take the elbows and wrists out of the stroke and put the shoulders into it.
  25. My Taylormade Rossa Monza Putter. It's 33" long. That 2" difference made all of the difference between 3-4 putts and now 1-2 putts. I'm getting so comfortable with outting now that I'm thinking about getting a blade putter... 33" of course.
