53 on 9 holes. I had 3 penalty drops (two OB's and a ball nestled up in some tree roots that was unplayable). My problem was my chipping and putting. More so the chipping. There were a few holes where I had to chip 2-3 times just to get on. I kept blading the ball :( Still, 7 stroke improvement on the year. I'm getting there.

I think the dress code really depends on the course. If you're going to a 9-hole muni that's hardly taken care of, then I don't dresscode being a problem... as long as they actually have clothes on If you're paying more than $50 (an arbitrary number as an example) for a round, then maybe you should be dressing nicely.

If you are going golfing with business partners, or clients, etc. then yes, dress attire. If you're just out on a weekend with your buddies drinkin beer and having fun, you shouldn't need to be decked out in your "sunday best". Hell, I'm going golfing tomorrow and it's supposed to rain. You won't catch me in dress slacks and fancy leather golf shoes. Hell, my neighbor is going to be wearing overalls =P

anyone know a good, cheap website to buy some golf shoes?

dude, did you read the end of the quote? he said he thought it was going to far.

I don't play on any courses that require a dress code. I do wear cargo shorts, as I do not have any pants that would be acceptable to play golf in, in the summer. I have heavier khaki pants, and i'd just die in them in the heat. But I always play in a nice polo (Re: Ashworth, Cutter & Buck, Nike, etc.). I got a ton of them from my mom's boss when the golf resort she works for changed their logo slightly. Can't sport clothes with the old logo if you're the general manager! Hooray for me! now, if Salishan would just let family members on to play for free instead of 1/2 junior rate (which is a good deal anyway) I'd be happy.

I'm sure it's something that will go away after I actually do the swing more often. Thanks Lobster

So I took my first lesson and my teacher had me change where I snap and roll my wrists in my swing. Now my left wrist is very sore. Obviously once I get a little warmed up it's a tad better. But still fairly painful. Is it common? My golf partner said I'm using muscles I haven't used before due to the change, but I don't recall there being muscles in my joint any ideas?

are there any crappy golf courses, 9 holes, etc. near you that you could golf on the cheap? A decent way to get "new" clubs is to hit up garage sales. I like to browse craigslist for this, as well as stop at the random sale while out driving. A friend picked up 1000 golf balls recently for $5. Remember that it's not simply having the best golf clubs, but having a matching set that's most important at this point. Check to make sure they fit you too. If you're extra tall or have really long/short arms, you may need fitted clubs. Which means you might have to get new clubs, or just have your current ones reshafted. mine were a $20 garage sale special. Granted that's not far off from their retail value, from what I found out, they're still a matching set. check locak golf course websites. I just took a free 1hr lesson at a local one here. He gave me the basics of what I was ding right and wrong. We did some video work then went back and worked on his new tips. I'm sore, but I hit the ball alot better after just 1hr. Welcome to the greatest game you'll love to hate!

V1 Pro Digital Swing Analysis Software by Interactive Frontiers if you want to see what it looks like, there's a picture of it part way down this page link http://www.golfredtail.com/instructional_tech.html

If you look at my second post, there's an awesome deal through my local CC for group lessons. Wouldn't hurt to see if something in your area does the same.

alright, was a great lesson. I only hit my 6 iron really. He took video of my swing, broke down what I was doing right and wrong, told me how to fix it, then we went back and hit some more shots for about 10min. The computer part took about 40min, but apparently that's common for first time lessons. What he told me really helped. I think if I decided to get lessons there (it's awfully expensive compared to other places around here) that I'd go through him. It was like having your grandpa teach you golf.

workin on the shoes thing atm. I know I'm not getting more lessons from this place, they charge nearly 100/hr. Granted you get all their fancy technology, but that's a ton of $$. There's a deal through our local community college for a 1hr/week, 5 week long course that only costs 100 total and it's at the best private club in the area.

I found a coupon from a local course that gives you a 1hr lesson with video analysis and software to take home, all for free for a first time student! So my question is, what should I expect to take away from the lesson? I've been working on the "basic" mechanics of my swing with my neighbor (who's golfed for 20+) and it seems to be getting better. I expect him to look at my swing, tell me what I am doing wrong and tell me what i can do to fix it. Is it that simple? Any advice before I actually take the lesson? I don't have golf shoes yet, is that going to matter for the lesson? Thanks guys.

ball compression
fendermallot replied to fendermallot's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
you can sometimes find a single ball listed somewher, but I was hoping for a more comprehensive listing... oh well, guarded corporate secrets. -
does anyone know if there's a list somewhere that lists the compression of golf balls by brand/type?
-
the funniest thing I've seen is an infomercial they have on sometimes that's about buying/selling realestate. The "hosts" are two very gorgeous and well endowed women who lean over and talk into the camera the entire show. You can see their navels if you look close enough. I guess it's about grabbing the guys attention while he's flipping channels.

There's a used set of r7's at a pawn shop near my house and they only want $130 for them. I had a dream last night that my wife told me I could go buy them four our anniversary/father's day. I woke up this morning, told her and she giggled and just said, "fat chance"... gotta feel the love!

there's a guy selling a set of these on craigslist for only 125. I wish I had the money. I'm sure they're gone already =P -
awesome tip glebert! I may also look into forest hills, they have a 4x30min lesson for $100.

pumpkin ridge is, and always will be, out of my price range. But when my friend gets his guest passes, I'm gonna hack that course up!

Anyone in the Portland area (pref. west side, ie beaverton) know of a really good place to get lessons? I know several places to get them, but any recommendations will help me decide where I should go. I just found on Red Tail's website ( www.golfredtail.com ) a coupon for a free first time lesson. "first time lesson students can receive a free one hour lesson with video analysis, free take-home software and MyRYG Locker set-up and access." hmm, might be worth checking out as long as there isn't a catch. I cant find one yet anyway.
