  2. The petition was for Active duty troops to attend the actual event. If it is not a player complaint it is not important?
  3. I think there are merits to each side. The players seem petulant in complaining publicly. The USGA has made a long list of screw ups that should be stated. Rulings such as the way they bumbled DJ's ball moving ( though there was no evidence), selecting Erin Hills and praying for wind ( The Open courses can stand on there own and they do not have to have wind - The fact that these courses are located on the North Sea guarantees a substantial wind). Each year, the military has petitioned the USGA to allow a limited amount of tickets to be given to active duty troops for USGA events. The bow-tied aristocrats refuse the request each year.
  4. There is no penalty for running out of balls and you can borrow one from a fellow competitor. The penalty may come in if there is a "one ball " rule such as they have in high level play.
  5. I meant that the USGA should not select a course then pray for wind.
  6. The complaints are mostly uncalled (rough and narrow fairways) for but some are legit. Having greens that are crazy fast is not a test of golf. The USGA did not intentionally make them that fast but they lost control of them several times in the past. Choosing Chambers Bay and Erin Hills were major mistakes as these are not US Open venues. Erin Hills was wide open and they were hoping for wind. -16 should never be a winning score for an Open. Chambers Bay was just silly.
  7. I always enjoyed playing Wild Dunes.
  8. Arnold Palmer was the first big name to take off his glove to putt. The gloves back then were on the thick side compared to the ones today. Fans and other pro's copied Arnie.
  9. 75 both Fri and Sat. Made two bogies on the last 4 holes both days. Temps in the low 90's and I think I did not stay hydrated enough. I am still very pleased with my play lately.
  10. The Country Club in Brookline MA. Long, lot of elevation and 6-8" rough. Not much fun if you miss a fairway or green,
  11. On Saturday shot my age 74
  12. Three straight top tens.
  13. I mean't in general.
  14. Good stuff. One area that seems to cause long delays is rulings. Every time the are near a sprinkler head, have an embedded ball or are blocked by an immoveable obstruction they call for a rules official. They know the rules and have fellow competitors to verify what they do. C'mon man.
  15. The USGTF does indeed teach accurate ball flight laws. They have a PAT as well that is just as rigorous as the PGA. I went to a class and there were only three people certified out of about twenty. The rest get a certificate of attendance only. The PGA program is indeed quality but there are years of standing behind a cash register that seems a waste of time to me.
  16. Shot my age - 73 on a 6500 yard course
  17. The yips affect other people besides golfers such as musicians and even surgeons. This has caused more research to be done in this area. The yips ( focal dystonia) are the result of a misfiring of neurons. Our wires get crossed. As humans we can re-train our brain to form new ways to deal with the problem. Try making changes in practice such as a different grip, wearing two gloves or using a count for the tempo of the stroke. I am retired as a psychologist (Ph.D) and just offering my 2c.
  18. I wrote to the USGA. The reply said that a mark in the dew would violate 8-2a. I was wrong. Sorry. Take care.
  19. You can lie a club at your feet but must remove it. I said that repeatedly. You stated that the stance can be part of the line of play..It is impossible. I don't care about this anymore. Happy New Year and good luck
  20. I will go by the Sand Trap Rules of Golf that include; The Line of Play goes through your legs when you take your stance There is no such thing as a Line of Play on the putting green Once you take your stance, you cannot adjust your feet I simply can't take it anymore of the BS.
  21. Yikes. It has to be removed because it is abnormal use of equipment. So, once you fairly take your stance, you cannot adjust it in any way? What Rule book are you using?
  22. So if you mean footprints in dew are marks then we need to invent golf shoes that can hover. Laying object or mark to gauge distance has nothing to do whatsoever with what I said. This is what I mean but misinformation. Do not write about the Rules if you do not know what you are talking about as golfers will get misinformation. Ok I will answer one more time but you will not get it. Rule 16 forbids abnormal use of equipment. Laying a club at your feet to help with alignment is abnormal use of that club. I give up. Keep spreading misinformation.
  23. I have never heard so much misinformation in a Rules discussion. One "Rules official" here says that the is no line of play on the putting green.- Rule 16 Golf The “line of putt” is defined in the Rules as “the line that the player wishes his ball to take after a stroke on the putting green” including “a reasonable distance on either side of the intended line”. The penalty for a breach of Rule 16-1a is loss of hole in match play or two strokes in stroke play.- Another "Rules official" says that the line of play includes where the player is standing. Unless you intend to hit your shot between your legs, your stance is NOT in the line of play and you need to learn the definition. As for my point about the dew, let me offer a simpler example. Player A takes his stance on a dewy fairway to play his shot. He feels that he is not aligned well to the target. He gets behind his ball and notices his foot impressions in the dew are aimed too far to the right. He retakes his stance and adjusts his stance to be better aligned. How is there a Rules violation there? I keep seeing condescending remarks about me in e mails as I must be an idiot and do not know anything about the game. I have two masters degrees and a Ph.D from a famous university. I have written seven books with six on golf. Two have been national best sellers with well over a million copies sold. One made it to # 1 on Amazon.com among sports books. I have written over 300 articles in magazines and newspapers including the top golf mags. I have been on national radio and TV including The Golf Channel. I have played professionally on mini tours and taught the game for over 30 years. I have been a Rules official and resource for club pros for years. I was highly decorated for heroism and wounded twice in combat as a Marine Corps officer. I am not an idiot as the "Rules Officials" here make me out to be. Good luck.
  24. Check the Definition of Loose impediments. Dew and frost are NOT loose impediments. If you pick the club up under 8-2, you cannot wipe away the dew line as you would be violating Rule 23. It is clear that no matter what, you will not listen to reason about the Rules and have your own set to go by. I was just trying to be helpful. I will exit the Sand Trap and not bother you anymore.
