A wood is no good from the deep stuff. You need not only a lot of club head speed, but also a club that will cut through the rough better. A SW will be your easiest to get out with , but you need/wanted some distance on it, so a 7 iron was probably fine, you just didn't execute it. Come in the ball at a steeper angle to minimize the amount of grass you have to go through.

+1, especially at RHPM. No offense or anything, it just shows your age. No one looks like 4 different pros at 4 different parts of their swing.

Beating my driveway to smithereens, Good or Bad?
Scottydoint replied to wannabe's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
I am pretty sure he talked about hitting a spot on the ground. I recently re-read the little green book and he told one of his lady pupil to not even try hitting balls until she could consistently hit the a spot on the ground, like a leaf. She was hitting all her shots fat. -
Addressing ball with irons...
Scottydoint replied to sunchopper's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
The toe should be slightly up at setup. It will (should) be flat at impact naturally because of the way your hands and arms are in a different position at impact than they are at in your setup. -
I have been called it a few times, but only by people I join up with who shoot terrible. Comparatively, I am a pro Haha.

Major aim improvement due to backswing check
Scottydoint replied to OhioBuckeye's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
It should be pretty close to being parallel to the target line, but not at the target. the shorter you clubs get, you swing shouldn't be as long, so the will be a little laid off at the top and not parallel to the target line, but would be if you lengthened the swing. -
I shot a 73, +3 today. Had 9 straight pars and I told myself this was getting a little boring, so then I went bogey, par, bogey, bogey, and then parred out. I had a lot of GIR today which I am very happy with (11/18). Got up and down 4/7, 32 putts, 7/14 fairways hit. I only hit 1 of the 4 par 3 greens, so that is something to work on.

Drill for not digging 1/2-3/4 Wedge shots
Scottydoint replied to BigBoy's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Keep your hands ahead of the clubhead and don't flip your wrists. With a flat or bowed left wrist at impact, hitting fat shots shouldn't be much of a problem. -
I just got a lesson and it has already improved my striking ability and I am hitting it a lot further now, but I don't know my new distances to well yet. Old distances- 60*- 50 yds 54*- 85-90 yds PW- 130-135 yds 9- 140-145 yds 8- 155 yds 7-165-170 yds 6- 180- 185 yds 5- 195 yds 4- 200 yds 3- 210-215 Since my lesson last week 60*- 90 yds 54*- 110 yds PW- 140-145? yds 9- 150-155? yds 8- 160-165 yds 7-170-175 yds 6- 190- 195 yds 5- 205 yds 4- 210-215 yds 3- 220-225? I will be continuing to work on have that slightly bowed left wrist at impact with my hands leading the club head and try and find more exact yardage for my irons. I hit a 7 iron on the short par 5, first hole yesterday from 170 and it flew the green. I hit it about 185

so I got my first lesson today...

Don't worry about where the ball is going. Just work on the mechanics you were told to do. The grip change is probably the biggest change you can make for golf. Be patient, the results will come. -
Medicus Hinged Club - Does it work?
Scottydoint replied to antney79's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
It is crap. Don't get it. It would break when I thought I was making a good swing, but it wouldn't break when I purposely did terrible swings. It actually messed my swing up bad. -
You are playing the "invisible ball" way to far back in the stance. That could lead to slices and weak pushes. Looks like pretty good posture, may could use a little more bend in the knees? Maybe a little more shoulder tilt with the driver? Also keep your hands out in front.

I played nine before work today and shot a 4 over 39. I got off to a bad start by chunking my approach on the first hole, chunking my 3W on the second, short sided my self into on a bunker on the 3rd, par 3 and escaped w/ a double . Played to rest of the 9 at 1 over. I chipped and putted as bad as I could. I finally started getting my putts to the hole on the last couple holes. It rained all last week and the greens were as slow as I have ever putted on. Fairways hit- 4/7 Greenies- 5/9 Putts- 18. Included a three put for bogey on a punched green. Up and downs- 0/3 Birdies- only one.

Hitting Down on the ball with Longer Irons
Scottydoint replied to HookEmHorns's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
You should swing every club the same (obviously not the putter). What exactly is a long iron? You play your longer irons up a little farther in your stance which then makes impact a little more at the end of downswing. So you are actually not hitting down as much, but not because you change your swing or even swing thought, but because it is further up in your stance. -
The course I play is 6828 and that is long enough because the grounds are so soft. All of the par 3's range from 185-202 yards which is not so much to my liking.

Slice vs. shaft stiffness does it matter?

Slice vs. shaft stiffness does it matter?
Scottydoint replied to YamahaJay's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
The flat or bowed wrist is a great tip for you to do. If it is cupped like you say it is, then that means your club head is ahead of shaft at impact and that leads to very inconsistent, weak shots. When your left hand is flat or bowed, your right hand will have to be cupped. Right now your left hand is cupped so your right hand is flat. Do not let your right hand get underneath the shaft at impact. Try and keep it more towards the top as you swing through and slightly rotate your forearms through impact. -
I was told once by Heath Slocum's Dad/Coach to practice your putting doing a one hand grip with a sand wedge.

Today was a terrible day of golf me, but the score doesn't show exactly how bad I played. I shot a 79 on my par 70 course from the tips with a course rating of 73. It rained very heavily before I went out and played. When I got out on the course I was surprised they decided to keep it open it was so wet (It is built on swamp land to begin with). Any ways that didn't have to much affect on my game as I only hit about two good shots the whole day and it came on the last hole. I hit a lot of bad iron shots and chip shots which is what I had worked on changing my impact position and only practiced one day before playing. Never again... 11/14 fairways Only 6 Greenies and 33 putts.

I think it looks good there. Your right that it is hard to tell, but to me it doesn't look like it goes past parallel to the ground until right after the club is past waist high, which is good.
-
Pretty good looking swing. Here are a couple things that I see. Your left arm isn't straight at the top, but you get there on the downswing. Keep your hands as far away from body as possible while still having it feel comfortable. Your hand being a little too close to your head is why your arm isn't as straight as it should be. Another thing is your swing is a little too long. You shouldn't go past parallel with your driver and even shorter for irons. edit: one other thing is it seems as you pulled off you follow through a little early.

I'd go with the Vokeys. I had some different Cleveland CGs, but don't like them. I get way more spin with the Vokey wedges also.

Do not aim your feet at where you want to hit it. That is a common mistake. Thinks about it this way... There is a rail road track. There are two tracks that run parallel to each other. your feet are on one of the tracks and the ball and clubface is on the other. Now if you hit the ball straight the ball will go straight down the track it is on, but not where your feet are aimed. Your feet are just supposed to be parallel to the target line. the only target line is the line the ball is on. If you aim your feet at the target, your ball will be going to the right of the target. you may hit it left of it it you pull it trying to hit it where your feet are aimed. edit: I found an illustration of what I was saying. Notice his feet are left of the target, but the ball is on the right line.

Please Help a n00b with consistency issues
Scottydoint replied to PlaystationTiger's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Don't just go out and hit range balls all day if you don't know what to practice. If you just go out there and swing at it all day and don't know what to work on you will just be waisting your time. There are several videos online that you can find that will show you some of the basics to work on. don't try to do more than one or two new things at a time. Also there are two types of practice. One type is just working on new mechanics and things like that. Do not worry where the ball goes at all. Just work on the mechanics. The other is putting it all together and just working on distance control and accuracy.
