Howell III weighs about 150 pounds and drives the ball 300 yards.......Bubba ain't that heavy either..... Also, can you imagine trying to run a tournament....you've got all these guys, their colored golf balls, and a scale on the first tee.....and imagine the women - if you think you are gonna get my wife on a scale, you are smoking crack Dr. Strangeclub, I applaud your creativity, but the different sets of tees is a great equalizer for short hitters.....some of the newer courses have 5 or 6 sets.....if you truly want to fit someone to the right tees, my recommendation is as follows: Take the average par 3 on the course - you should be hitting a 5-7 iron, depending on the course (again, common sense adjustment maybe needed).....whatever club fits, that is the set you play......

Push carts rock.....I love my push cart and wouldn't have it any other way......I get to walk without stressing my back or knees, it's a win-win...... I've only been made fun of by two people......guys in carts with a 12 pack in their cooler, or I've gotten a few looks from 16 year olds....I'm too old to care what anyone things anymore....waking up without back pain is all the glory I need BTW, I am jealous - those clickgear rides are freaking sweet, congrats on the purchase...

Dude, you forgot to mention that you are 6 foot 5 inches.....some of use smaller guys don't have such an impressive presence I do agree with senior - even though I'm a shortie, it's best to just ask specifically, "did you intend to hit into our group".........based on the OP, the they had already requested them to play through, so they knew the score and had a chance to go around.....they declined and still hit into them......kinda crappy in my book.....normally, it seems most people will be quick to apologize if it was a mistake....

Putting lines are good, speed is just off, chipping is dismal, cannot get up and down... Shot an 88 today ZERO birdies, 6 pars, 7 bogeys, 4 doubles 4 fairways, only 3 greens in reg, 33 putts 6532 yards/71.7 rating/133 slope - a little windy, but beautiful day Irons were solid, driver was a little loose, horrible around the greens Tons of elevation changes, course was in excellent condition, best greens I have seen all year Best drive - 2nd tee, into the wind and uphill, 250 yards but perfect swing Best iron - 6 iron off the tee, pured it to the back of the green, but well struck, just overclubbed Best putt - there wasn't one - reads were great, but speed was off, nothing fell

IMHO, if you really want to play well, get their early and work on your short game.....whatever the course, you need to know how the greens are running and be sharp with your chipping and putting....this will remove a ton of pressure and build some confidence.......about 30 minutes before you go off, hit a few irons, a few wedges, and a few drivers to warm up.....focus on good contact and warming up....my best rounds have all been due to a good warm-up with plenty of short game practice... Focus on where you want the ball to go and how you want to hit the shot - DO NOT focus on messing up or embarrassment cause if you do, it's coming......do not let the first hole dictate your day - half the time, I bogey or worse on the first hole, just relax and let it go.....your first hole is your practice, remove any expectations.....birdie or par, great, but if you start rough, accept it as your practice hole and get in the groove....

On TGC, I remember seeing a thing with Gary Player a long time ago.....I believe he does the entire repair process with his putter.....thought that was pretty cool....

If you are at altitude and the course has rock hard fairways, I can see this.....in DFW, some of the munis have thin, rock hard fairways this early in the season.....I can hit a little stinger 3iron 250 when the stars align, but typically it's more like 220, with about 190 carry on that low shot that rolls out.....considering corners and doglegs, I'd bet your average is 240-250, which is still a solid knock....

Great, so you had to bring this on the forum.....did you call your momma so you could get permission first????.....next time, just do what I tell you too, geesh....you know I like to keep my pimp hand strong, you don't want none of this.... All jokes aside, like you, I usually try to avoid casing a shadow, while also not standing in their line, while also not standing in the lines of anyone else on the green....surprised they always put you on the high side.....in a friendly match, I'll stand wherever they want, but some of the posters make really good points about a possible penalty....never thought of that...

I'm gonna play in my first scramble of the year on May 1st a couple of buds......we are going to drink, be marry, and grip it/rip it........I don't care if people play by the spirit of the rules, taking a few liberties with a drop here or there.....yes, they are fun and I have never been a letter of the law kinda guy unless it's just in regards to my own play.......we are gonna relax and it's gonna be fun.... That being said, the score I write down is gonna be whatever we shoot.....I do not condone nor will I support outright cheating.....where is there value in shooting a 6 on a hole and wriiting down a 4......it's pathetic.....it's just like sitting at home on Friday night writing Rosy on your left palm, Maxine on your right palm, and telling everyone in the office you had a threesome over the weekend....everyone, including you, knows you are in the running for the biggest deuche in the universe award..... Just sayin

Gainesville Municipal Goatranch in Gainesville Tx.......no website.....little town doesn't have internet yet....they just started using those old white block cellphones last year....

It's time to tell the truth.....I know where all this stems from and you need therapy.... As a boy, your daddy was a greenskeeper wasn't he......and when you were a bad little boy, all he had was a flagstick to beat you with.....and every time, he'd whip out that flagstick and beat your little butt red.....all the while, yelling FORE..... No matter how many flagsticks you attach to the hole, that pain is never going to go away is it???? Actually, I get your gripes....but if we fixed the flag issue, the dirtbags that bother you would just find another way to cause problems.....we'd see an increase in more carts driven on greens, more yelling "go in the hole" from the tee on par 5's, and even worse, more of my golfballs getting stolen by idiots from the other fairway.....I don't think I could take it.....and even though you might sleep better, my nightmares would return....

Yes, I will spend a little extra money to support the local guy.....especially if there is a fuel and time savings involved, I can justify a little more money.....but then again, I ain't no fool.....if it's $1000 locally and $600 online, I don't like to be taken.....now, if it's $600 online, but they guy will cut me a deal at $750, that is not so bad.....I can actually see the merchandice, hit it, and support a local, I am all for it......as long as the local shop offers good service and friendly help, I'm all for giving them my $$$..... Some things I buy local, some at big golf outlets, and some online....depends on the item and the mark-up......also depends on how friendly and knowledgeable the guy behind the counter actually is - service goes a long way in my book and worth a little extra coin....

This, $200 for a single club or staft is too expensive for a cheap bastage like me
-
Yep, same guy....that's me Funny enough, people make mistakes, and I'm kewl with that.....the people that bother me are the ones that clearly know that are doing wrong, yet they simply don't care......stealing golf balls, it just baffles me......we need a golf jail....that would be sweet.....put them in a work program where they rake bunkers and clean carts for the rest of the round....
-
YE Yangs shot on 18 in the PGA.....as far as a pressure shot, to support an all-day-long pressure packed pairing, that was incredible..... Live, I watched a hole in one on a Par 4, I think it was in San Antonio....that was just too cool....
-
OB - back to the tee, play your 3rd shot off the tee.... I have seen tournaments where they allow certain flights to play OB as a hazard and take a drop, but it is clearly outlined in their rules..... In a casual round where the course is backed up, I got zero issues with a buddy taking a drop/penalty and playing....but, if you EVER think that a ball maybe even close to OB, you should always play a provisional....

Just to be clear, not saying used is the way to go......getting fitted by a clubmaker for a new set is sweeeeeeeeet, especially if you have the coin..... You might wait, get some lessons first, and get your swing the way you want it to be.......your stance and swing can make a difference in your fitting, and if you plan to improve and make changes, waiting might be your best bet.....do a lot of research, there are 100 ways to skin a golfing cat, and all of them are right.... My two cents...

Go demo some used clubs.....I saw a set of used Mizuno MP60's this weekend for $240.....that is a steal IMHO.....you can find last year's drivers for only $100 brand new, a used 3wd for about $50, and a bag for $50 on sale.....if you like the putter and wedge, just keep those.... That, or just keep what you have.....there are an endless amount of options.....buying new clubs is great, but if money is an issue, keep an open mind......I used to buy everything new, but now that I am poor , I am getting used to used clubs.....
-
Excellent suggestion, thanks for adding in to the mix.....would be nice to have at least one on each nine, maybe 5 holes in or so.....

Water and gatorade.....does a body good.... Some of my friends love a nice 6-pack of cold beer for every round, to each his own.... One last group of buds - well, they keep a bottle of wiskey in the bag - if someone makes a birdie, everyone does a shot.... Personally, I just like water and gatorade, but when in Rome.....also, I try to each a banana and peanut butter crackers on the 6th and 12th holes respectively for energy....I have a tendency to tire and make loose shots on the last few holes if I don't eat, especially if I am walking...

Got my Taylormade Burner 6-iron in the mail today.....it's a nice clean looking, well made club.....being a blade guy, I was weary, but I'm impressed after taking my first look at the club.....will hit it this weekend and see how it works out....
-
I hate you......because I am a jealous punk and very impressed with your new level of performance.... Congratulations and make sure to post up when you post a 75! Hope to break 80 soon, thanks for your post and write-up....
-
IMHO, you need a break......at least from playing.....sounds like you are all up in your head, while at the same time having issues with mechanics and focusing too much on your score.....as you suggested, take a couple of weeks away from playing.....every few days, go to the range, relax, and just hit some balls.....groove your swing, enjoy the ball flight, and just let it come back to you.... Also, work on your putting and chipping.....I always find that as my short game improves, I feel less pressure to hit perfect drives and approach shots because I know I can make par with an up and down......and less pressure usually means I hit the ball better....

I LOVE these shows, they are pure entertainment..... First, you have The Donald, his arrogance, and his love of golf......next, you mix it in with celebs that are good athelets and damn good golfers that most of us can relate to.....you put them on amazing golf courses, let their personalities out, and have a little fun.....I like it.... On the first show, I loved the fact that LT delofted his 9 iron to about a 6 iron - Donald kept saying, "wow, he's 160 out and hitting only a 9 iron"......like LT, that guy is competetive....Jerry has a good game, that whole match was fun..... De La Hoya has got to be one of the coolest guys on the planet......guy has a great attitude, very competetive, seemed to have some great insight, and was just fun to listen to.....just became a big fan of his.....Lopez is funnae and a pretty good golfer.... I'm gonna keep tuning in...."nobody wants to play golf on a hill....they want to play at a mountain, or a valley, not a hill"....LOL
