make it feel like you're swinging behind the ball, pull the handle down and with passive arms let the club do its thing. at first it feels like you're gonna stuff the club in the ground, and if you don't straighten your right arm you won't. the centripetal force exerted will pull the clubhead down and through the ball. trick is to feel like you're swinging with your shoulders, NOT your arms.

I didn't think it had been that long until I thought about it. Then I was like, damn it's been 6 months since I've hit balls. To make a long story short, I've been busy as hell. But I digress.... I start out hitting some balls, they're all going to the right and I'm hitting them thin. So I bend forward a bit, and I'm suddenly hitting my 5-PW really nicely. With my 3 and 4 iron, not so much. I'm hitting them incredibly fat. I tried straightening up just a tad, or what felt like a tad, then I start pushing them again. I'm used to hitting those clubs really well, but today I just couldn't find that happy medium. Perhaps I was standing too close to the ball? What's your inclination and ball placement (feel)like for your long irons/3wood?

What did you learn from Bubba Watson as a person and as a golfer?
senorchipotle replied to PivotPro's topic in Golf Talk
yeah, i don't need to hear about jesus or anything else from a golfer. i don't watch golf for feel good stories about people i don't know and likely will never meet. not that i wish ill on him, i just don't care about his family dynamic or his excuses for acting an ass in france. i find it sad that we give pro athletes a pat on the back for doing what they're supposed to do, or rather not doing what they shouldn't. i am in the charles barkley school of philosophy with respect to athletes. you should be a role model for your kid, not bubba watson. -

nice swing. looks alot better than a 22 handicap. nice weight shift, but i think your transition might be a little quick, which can cause you to get stuck and push the ball out right. your swing actually reminds me of tom watson's.
-
if you have to think about straightening the right arm, you're probably starting the downswing too quickly and reaching max speed before you hit the ball, instead of accelerating through it. you want the shoulders to rotate your upper body into p6 when your club is horizontal to the ground then you can swing/hit with your arms.

Baseball vs Golf… The Most Important Difference

exhibit A: Exhibit B: note: max extension of lead arm, lower body shifting forward into impact, hips opening and driving with legs. extension through impact and max speed coming just after contact. -
Baseball vs Golf… The Most Important Difference
senorchipotle replied to JackLee's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
actually, it's more of a 50/50 distribution with both golf and baseball, it just looks/feels differently. lots of hitters of the golf ball hang back with their upper body which is evidenced by their driver swing. bubba watson, angel cabrera, bj holmes, etc. biodynamically, the two swings are incredibly similar. and if you've played both sports, you can feel the same movements you make to hit a draw are the same movements you make to pulll a ball to left field and vise versa. -

My game has gone to hell

if your backswing feels funky, i've found that working on posture is one of the best things one can do. if you feel like you're pushing everything and can't hit a draw, try bending slightly at the waist, it allows your hands to come in quicker with a lot more ease, so you don't feel like you're wrapping your arms around your body, but more of a turn back, turn through feel. make sure you're not stiff and your arms are being controlled by your upper half and not steering themselves too much. there are many things, so just take your time and relax, think back to your swing feelings that have been ingrained and it'll come back soon. -
basically, he can pretty much get up and down from anywhere within 80 yards. played many a round with ut, i can vouch.

Just Pondering...similarity between Sergio and Tiger???
senorchipotle replied to Yukari's topic in Tour Talk
i don't think tiger is suffering from a broken heart as sergio was. if you are in love with a woman, at least from my personal perspective, you don't do what tiger did. i can see a slip up or two as you're rich and powerful and can have any woman you want, so that's gotta be tough. but you just don't act in a way that will not only hurt, but utterly humiliate her. i think tiger is suffering more of an identity crisis than anything. we know the image of tiger woods, and maybe that's who he was trying to be, then completely lost his real self in the process. -
the old girlfriend was still a bit cuter, although she looked like she had a bitchy attitude. or maybe that was the allure, and it got old.
-
i think carory, or roraline sounds much better. still pretty annoying, though.
-
you've got a pretty noticeable arrested hip rotation going on. when your club is parallel to the ground(P6) on your downswing you stop your hip rotation and throw your right hand into it, flipping at the ball. keep those hips going and feel like you're going to hit the ball with your right shoulder instead of your right hand, and let that extension happen after contact.
-
tom, i think it can be easy if you work slowly. basically, i bring the club up to P4, and once it's set it's just a matter of keeping your width and a consistent tempo and on plane. i just started out as slow as i could with a PW, then a 9, etc. i figured the driver would be the hardest, but it's actually the easiest to accomplish cause it's teed up. and like i said earlier, if you bend just a bit more at the waist it's easier to get a more vertical shoulder turn, set the club, then initiate with your hips and not your arms.

Best golf gloves ever...
senorchipotle replied to senorchipotle's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
wish i could swing without a glove, would save lots of money. i tried to once for three holes and the club kept slipping out of my hands. -
So I stumble upon these Callaway "tour authentic" gloves on sale at the PGA Superstore, and they claim to have the best feeling golf gloves. They are not wrong, these gloves are fantastic. Better than footjoy, better than titleist. The only ones i think come close are the etonics.
-
i think the easiest way to stop flipping, at least in my experience, is to try and keep your right elbow bent throughout the whole downswing until it naturally straightens on your follow through. when i first tried this i was hitting push slices galore, until i bent a little bit more at the waist and got more width between my arms and body. i noticed all of a sudden i had more velocity and better accuracy, and hit fewer fat/thin shots.

There can only be four...or less if someone is greedy in 2012
senorchipotle replied to Royal's topic in Tour Talk
seriously, i think he can do it if he gets motivated. once he gets to the point where he's no longer thinking mechanically about his swing, watch out. i have a suspicion that we're going to see 2.5 years of year 2000 like dominance from tiger. -
