  1. I think my clubs are pretty sexy and they hit as good as they look. They are 2007 Tommy Armour Silver Scot Musclebacks.
  2. Some knucklehead paid to fly a banner behind a plane just as Tiger teed of that said, "Tiger, did you mean Bootyism?" What a scumbag. Some people in this country need to get a life.
  3. When is network coverage supposed to start? I have Directv and have searched through the guide and all I see is Golf channel and they are not doing anything but talking about what we should be seeing. I am watching live coverage from Masters.com but it's just not the same.
  4. I think everyone should start with blades or players irons. Starting out with giant oversized clubs is just setting up to be mediocre and sloppy. Learn to make contact with the smallest and most unforgiving club face and then build off that. I started with SGI irons because some knucklehead said so and I played horrible golf for 4 years. Well, not really horrible but I never broke 80 until I switched over to blades and actually started focusing on making good contact. Playing blades for only 6 months, I now regularly shoot in the low 80's and occasionally shoot under 80. My GIR's are much better but my chipping and putting still leave a lot to be desired. I have 2 sets of irons now. My primary is Titleist 690.mb blades and I sometimes play with Adams Tight Lies Tour Players cavity. I guess I am backwards, where most prefer a forgiving longer iron but I actually prefer a long blade. When I first got my blades, I spent many hours at the range just hitting the 3-5 irons and I got very good making contact with them. It depends on the individual. Play what works for you and not what some yoyo says is the only way. PS. If someone says you can't do something, do what I have always done, spit in their eye and prove them wrong. Being Irish, this has been the best motivation in my life.
  5. Oh my god.....Tiger is human! Come on people..his personal life is none of our business. This country has to get past this morals and values BS. No celebrity should have any affect on any one else's morals. If you were not taught morals and values by your parents, that is sad but it is not the responsibility of an athlete to do the job your parents should have done. Tiger....if you need to take time for yourself and your family, I'm with ya but if you are doing it to appease your repressed and conservative fan base, I'm disappointed. I though you were a professional.
  6. I started playing SGI clubs and played them for 2 years. My best 18 hole score was an 83 and that happened only because my driving, chipping and putting was working well. My ball striking suffered with those giant headed, clumsy irons. For 6 months, I have been playing Titleist 690.mb blades and I am in love with golf for the first time. I broke 80 after 72 holes and my ballstriking just keeps getting better. I wish I could say the same for my chipping and putting. With the Adams Tech OS hybrid irons, I was lucky to hit greens from 130 yds out. With the blades, I am confident with approach shots as far as 160yds. I know players and blades are considered "hard" to hit but it has been the opposite for me. The small face, thin top edge and sole just seems to fit my eye. I used to struggle to shoot under 89 and now my bad scores 86-89. Thank god for old technology.

    13* 3 Wood

I love mine. I play a 13* Adams Speedline 3 wood. I use it from the tee, when I'm not confident with the driver. I can hit it with a slight fade to 240-250 from the tee and 220-230 from the fairway. Over 200, it's my go to club. From 195-210, I go with my cheapo 19* walwart hybrid.
  8. I knew that rule before I ever started playing golf. It was in Tin Cup. "Doctor Griswald, should I hit the big dog or the 2? uhhh, soliciting shot selection advice is a two stroke penalty."
  9. Yes, I really enjoy the game. I played 45 holes today so I really do enjoy the game but I'm not some fool that loves to lose. I always want to win. Do I enjoy the game enough to play while doubling every hole?......no. If I were playing Pebble Beach for free and didn't care about the score, i'd really love it. Problem is, I care about my score and can't really enjoy the game unless I am shooting bogey or under. Golf , for me, is not something I enjoy with friends if I shoot good or bad. If I shoot bad, I don't enjoy it. When I play golf, I want to beat my playing partners or learn from those I lose to. I am 35 and have been playing seriously for about a year. I want to win and want to shoot under 80. My best score is 83 and am close to 80 and under. To answer you question, I do really enjoy the game but I am not goofy enough to be happy with shooting 10 over my handicap. I always want to improve.
  10. I definitely agree with this statement. The best scores I ever put up were playing as a single on an empty course or with my best friend who plays as fast as I do as well on an empty course. I played 45 holes today(36) with my friend. The first 18 started at 7:30 and there was a lot of traffic so we would sit and sit while waiting to shoot. I shot 93 first round. Second round, the traffic lightened up and I shot a 87. My friend left after 36 and I still felt good and shot a 39 front nine with absolutely no holdups. It was wonderful. I was able to pull up to the ball, pull the club, align, one waggle and fire. The ET, from stepping foot from the cart till I fired the club, was probably 14-16 seconds.
  11. Well, I just got back from the course and I am still in love. My best score until now has been a 85 and I shot an 86 on the first 18 and an 82 on the second round. I got in a situation today where I had 185 to the green on the left rough with trees in the way and pulled out the 4 iron and hit a beautiful draw that started 10 yards right of the green and hit the green with a 7 foot putt for birdie and was able to drop it. I'm exhausted from 36 holes today but I'm going back again in the morning for another 18. Who knows.....maybe I can break into the 70's!
  12. I have played, for about 6 months, with a set of Adams Idea Tech OS which is 7-PW CB, 5-6 Hybrid Iron and 3-4 Hybrid. I loved them at first but grew to hate them as they were very difficult to shape and were goofy heavy. I went to a used golf store today looking for some blades, to try the other extreme, and found a set of Adams Tight Lies Tour irons which I assume are players cavity backs. Hitting them felt amazing! The soles are very thin as well as the top edges. I snapped them up and went straight to the range. I was hitting from the grass range, so I could see where on the face the impact occurred and I was making pure contact in the sweet spot all the way from the PW to the 3 iron. I was amazed. Every club feels the same. They all feel as light as a sand wedge! I used to hit the Idea Tech OS 7 iron 150yards 50% of the time because half would be fat shots. I hit the new 7 iron 160 yards 95% of the time and all were in the sweet spot. I don't know what will happen on the course until tomorrow but man, I swear, this is the most fun I have had in years hitting irons. I hit the 3 iron just as easy as the 7 or 9 and I am looking for a 2 iron on Ebay to go with this set. I don't think I'll need it as I can hit the Speedline 3W 13* 230-240yards but I am hooked on the old school way of hitting long irons. I am just loving it. When I hit the 3 iron, it feels just as effortless as hitting a 54 sandwedge.
  13. I find it interesting that you automatically assume I bought my putter new or even paid market value for it. I actually got it from a guy on craigslist for $60..... not $300.
  14. Phew! I just read all 9 pages. The OP sounds like he is just drunk and ranting. Maybe because he got caught behind someone who was moving slow and just happened to notice the person was using a GPS. My GPS on my phone takes right at 3-5 seconds to pull up a yardage to the center of the green. At most, I use it once per hole and usually every third whole or less. So, at most, that adds a whopping 90 seconds per round if I used it every hole. If I hit a bad tee shot that comes up short and I'm kinda far from the 150 or 100 sticks, I'll use it to know if i'm say....230 out(3 wood), 210 out(3 hybrid) or 195out(4 hybrid). I have played some courses where there was no course file created for and I shot about the same and didn't even miss using it. I still like using it but it's not a necessity. To say it wastes time or puts one in a technological "bubble" and incapable of having time to enjoy the game or the people you play with is utterly ridiculous and close to a retarded statement. Also, I am not just playing golf to have fun with friends. I am seriously trying to improve so, when playing, I very rarely cut up and joke around with my playing buddies anyway. I don't think 5 seconds per hole would be a factor. If you can hit close to the pin without a GPS, that's great cause I can too but sometimes I'd rather take out of the equation the added time it takes to find yardage markers, since my GPS takes no more than 5 seconds. I get so tired of waiting for pokey, non-techy's to figure their yardage out....heh
  15. I would never carry any headcover of any pro. It's just gay. Be yourself. For the Daly haters, you will never accomplish what Daly has. If you're pissed because he squandered his talent, that's his business. Create your own. Don't get pissed when you can no longer live vicariously through someone much more talented but less enlightened than yourself. Let the flaming begin. I speak my mind and don't care, so I'm an easy target.
  16. I only go to the range if I am trying out a new club or working on a swing or grip modification. I save practice for the course when I go out by myself. I have 5 totally different courses near me that I can play for right at $20. Practicing at the range is not for me. I get drained way too quickly at the range because of just hitting ball after ball which is not how it happens on the course. There is time to recover between shots on the course.
  17. Man, don't even think about players that talk shit. Usually, if they talk a good game, they are just trying to get in your head to get you out of your game, especially when they try to give "advice"....tell them to go smoke a cock. Losers will always try to talk you out of the win you deserve. I have played with scratch golfers and with guys that shot to a 30+ handicap and can say that the scratch golfer is a much better person to play with, as they will almost never offer any advice. It's usually the yoyo that barely knows what he's doing that offers advice. I have learned to tune out everything, especially high handicap yoyo's. I don't hear them yammering in my backswing on the teebox and certainly don't "listen" to their so called advice. This is one of the reasons I almost always beat my playing partner, who is much more experienced than I but he likes to talk shit as it is part of his strategy. I no longer hear chatter on the tee or the greens or the fairways. I have tunnel vision and the only one that is going to beat me is myself because of my own swing or someone with a better swing.. Ass_holes will always give unsolicited advice but I will do as usual........not hear them, no matter how loud they are. I sliced a 3 wood in the trees today and one of the guys tried to give me a pass and rehit(mulligan) because he was talking during my backswing. He was 15 feet away and I didn't hear him and didn't take any crappy mulligan because mulligans suck and I also never heard him. I took my provisional, found my first and ended up par'ing my first ball. No player is going to get me out of my game and I play with some funky players here in Memphis.
  18. I am just a 17 hdcp but I think the only "feel" part for me is any shot with an iron which is shorter than my full shot. Like a sand wedge that I normally hit 85-90 yards and I use that club for a 50 yard shot and any other short pitch or chip. Putting, for me, has become very robotic and consistent. I line the ball up to the line I have picked out, take one practice putt while looking at the hole then one looking at the imaginary ball and then step into the ball and take the stroke. I guess the distance part of the putt is part feel and experience but still feels very robotic and I have become a very good putter. I just wish I could get a robotic driver and long iron swing without my typical overswing resulting in a hard fade/slice. I think the only shots that can be mostly "feel" are pitch and chip shots. This opinion is purely based on my limited experience(5 years) and crummy handicap.
  19. I like about 5800-6000 which tends to be white tees at the courses I play. I shoot in the 85-92 range.
  20. Congrats man. The first par feels good but just wait till you get your first birdie and then the first eagle. Keep practicing and playing and before you know it, you'll be expecting to par most holes and maybe get 4-7 per round and then start getting 1 or 2 birdies per round. This is what I love about this game. Their are always parts of the game to improve on and goals to keep striving for.
  21. Thanks I am absolutely in love with the Speedline 3w. It hits so easy. I have been able to reach greens from 230-250. It can cut thru the rough very nicely and sound good hitting hitting a ProV1 or BlackMax. You should demo one if you get the chance.
  22. I shot my best score of 85 yesterday and had 3 birdies and did not chunk any shots! I have been getting very frustrated over the past few weeks over hitting everything but driver and putter fat. My buddy and I played 2 days ago and I was really cussing my game and just looked at me and laughed and said, "I know what's wrong and can tell you or let you figure it out". I told him to tell me or I'd kill him. He told me I was getting too footsy as I was rolling my left heel over and sometimes lifting it all the way off the ground on the backswing. That was it? You gotta be kiddin me! Instantly I stopped chunking and began hitting perfectly crisp shots again. I also began using my irons for chipping instead of just the wedges. Yesterday I used mostly the PW but also used the 8 and 9 on longer uphill greens when I was off the fringe. I never failed to get up and down and came with in 2 inches for Eagle on a par 5 with chip with PW. I remember when and why I began chunking shots. I was watching a Jack Nicklaus thing on GC where he was talking about using good footwork. I guess I overdid it! Golf is fun again and my new goal of breaking 80 is very much in reach.
  23. I can't imagine a drill that would give someone hand/eye coordination and depth perception other than just a ton of practice on many different types of greens, which can only be had through playing many different courses many times. The ladder drill might help.
  24. No probably about it. Definitely!
  25. Here is an easy and free test to show you if a ball is soft enough to create spin with to stop on the green. If you have a smooth concrete floor in your garage or even smooth tiles in your kitchen, take a ball in hand and hold at chest height and spin it back as fast as you can with your thumb, index and middle finger. A good soft cover(workable) ball will hit the floor and stop spinning or spin back in the opposite direction. A hard as nails distance rock will hit the floor and bounce back up and will still be spinning in the same direction.
