As a shorter person (5'3) I am often using cut down putters. After doing allot of looking for putters I've noticed that very few putters actually change head weight. Thus the swing weight for a 35" putter (D2 -recommended) can very greatly from a 33" putter (Now a C0 - way too light). See the link for a great chart on putter swing weight. http://www.ralphmaltby.com/home/267/ I like how the New Scotty Newports have adjustable weights, I just wish there were more inexpensive options. I cut down a Mizuno Bettinardi putter, which I now find much too light.

I recently changed my swing from a bent left arm to a straight left arm at take back and I keep re-pulling my top left thigh muscle. Right where my thigh meets my torso. I pull it when I extend at my finish, but I never use to pull this until I changed to a straight left arm. Go figure. I think I pull harder through the ball now. Anyone have a good stretch or have a similar problem? Thanks.

Womens clubs - what height are they generally built for?
Scaldy replied to Sheekamoo's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Call it good timing, but I'm 5'3 . I bought the Adam's A30s Petite ladies set and actually found them too short. I ended up swapping them for the Ladies A30S regular set and found the length to be pretty spot on. My lower back has issues so I find a slightly more upright stance to be beneficial. I would guess that the A30S Ladies set would fit up to 5'6 and maaaybe 5'7 without any issues. Anyone taller would probably find a men's length better. -
face balanced blade putters?
Scaldy replied to willud4skins's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
The Scotty Cameron Newport 2.7 is "nearly face balanced". It basically looks allot like a Yes Tracy. http://www.scottycameron.com/putters...el.aspx?id=361 -
Putter Designs for Putter Strokes/Paths
Scaldy replied to Happy Dragon's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I did some research on this exact topic. As mentioned, face balanced putters lend themselves to "straight back straight through" strokes. As far as Scotty Cameron putters go the Newport 2.7 has the traditional look of the Newport 2 but is "nearly face-balanced". I went through 5 putters this year and finally settled on the 2.7. Good luck! http://www.scottycameron.com/putters...el.aspx?id=361 -
I thought I would bump this thread because I had this same "light bulb" moment a few weeks ago. I started putting so much better when I focused more on the line and speed (visualizing the putt going in) and less on the mechanics of the swing. Focusing on "putting down the line" has helped me allot.

I've played the 13 piece A30S set for almost 2 months. Compared to the iron only set you get a gap wedge which I have found surprisingly useful. The driver is actually pretty good and replaced my Taylor Made R5. The only clubs that didn't exceed my expectations were the fairway woods. They were consistently 5-10 yards shorter than my Nike SQ's. Other than that it's a great "bang for your buck" set that won't disappoint.

Scotty Cameron should sell cologne
Scaldy replied to Scaldy's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
Thank you! That was exactly the reference I was looking for. -
Need a new putter grip? Don't just get a putter grip... get a new lifestyle at the same time! "A sharp Cameron 3 Point Crown in white coyly calls out your putter preference to those watching your stroke. What happens next is a confident motion, loft and lie coming together in perfect symmetry, as you calmly, deftly move the putter face through your arc and send the ball rolling directly into the cup. Simple, right? Yeah, right." Don't forget to pop your collar before you make that stroke. I love my Scotty, but seriously, it's just a grip.

This was the one I was thinking of downloading but I don't have 3g on my Iphone and no access to wifi on the course so I don't know if I will be able to load the courses up prior to the round. The GPS should work fine as I use the mapquest app allot.

I'm the same. I use it for all my shots 60 yards and in. I heard Annika say that Tiger converted her to doing the same thing because you can use one club for many different shots. Plus, my 60 degree is a Cleveland with "zip grooves" that actually do what they are supposed to. Add a proV1 to the mix and I can actually get a ball to back up....juuust a little.

I recently have been playing a Titleist ProV1 and have been very impressed with it's spin and overall control to hold the greens. However, I'm amazed at how easily the ball's shell gets cut. My wedge literally will pull paint off the ball as if Xmen's Wolverine had swiped at it. Anyone else encounter this? My wedge is a Cleveland with Zip Grooves. It's the first time I've ever created backspin on a ball... but the ball won't last a round . I played one Prov1X for almost 4 rounds with little damage but miss the control of the ProV1. Can anyone recommend a ball that is more durable than the ProV1 but has similar control? Thanks.

Does anyone else use "no name" or other brands of head covers to avoid their clubs from getting stolen? For example, when I bought my R5 driver new I used a super cheap head cover to make people think I was playing...a super cheap driver I don't use the provided Scotty head cover for my Newport putter either. I use a Ping Karsten series one instead.

I bought the ladies integrated A30S (13 clubs). I was surprised with how many of the clubs I kept in the bag. Only the 3, 5 wood and putter didn't stay in play. I hit my Nike SQ woods a little longer than the Adams and it's hard to compete with a Scotty putter. The Adams A30S driver did replace my R5 though (I was surprised too).

Best Ball for Mid, Mid-High Handicappers
Scaldy replied to Sowbug2000's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
I tried a few balls and was impressed by the Srixon "soft feel". The owner of my local golf shop was raving about them and convinced me to try them. Great durability, good feel and decent distance. $20 and it came with a free Srixon Towel. http://www.srixon.com/balls_softfeel.html To be fair I haven't tried the "gamer" yet but I have heard good things about that ball too. -
Putting setup, bent legs or bent over torso?
Scaldy replied to Zeph's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
At 5'2 I'm on the short side but I found a 32" putter put too much stress on my lower back. The 33" putter kept me a tad more upright to save the back. I just can't look like Jack Nicklaus when I'm putting without reaching for the Advil. -
I can totally relate. I shoot an 86 one round and felt like I could have done better. Next round, same course, my short game blows up and I shoot a 97. It took everything I had to pull in a few pars down the stretch to not shoot over 100. My only advice is to build off of the positives and do your best to ignore the negatives. I think I just let my nerves get to me. Experience will hopefully help me next time. I flew the green twice....twice in one hole and salvaged a triple bogey. Garr!

Missing short putts! You work hard for 1-4 shots, over hundreds of yards, to put yourself in a good scoring position only to miss a two foot putt!!! Ahhhh!

After some debate I decided to replace my old Odyssey blade putter with a new one. After many hours-days-months I settled with the Yes Tracy and the Bettinardi C02. Both 32" and both with Yes Winn AVS grips. Finding putters I liked was great but really it was the journey to find them that was actually interesting. I bought my first new putter two months ago from Golf Town. After not liking it I took advantage of Golf Towns 30 day exchange policy and basically exchanged mint condition putters with Golf Town many times to find the right one. Here's a quick review of the putters I "test drove". Qualifiers: My price range was max $200. Each putter got a thorough test at Golf Town, at the putting range and at a round of golf. 1. Odyssey White Hot XG Putter #3 (blade) http://www.golftown.com/gtcommerce/s...-P2635C25.aspx Very similar to my old putter but I found the insert tricky to control distance with. Great soft feel though. 2. Taylormade Rossa Daytona (Anser style) http://www.golftown.com/gtcommerce/s...-P9379C25.aspx The Golf Town employee raved about the insert and it's "true roll" so I gave it a shot. I found the head a little on the light side and the craftsmanship was poor. Small paint mistakes and overall poor construction made the putter feel very cheap. It gave a great roll to the ball though. 3. Ping Anser IWI (individual weight system) http://www.golftown.com/gtcommerce/s...-P9373C25.aspx Sticking with the Anser blade style I gave the Ping a shot. I liked the idea of customizing weights but at $70 US for the weight kit the overall cost would have gotten me darn close to a Scotty Cameron. The default weights that came with it were not heavy enough for my taste. The insert however was a pleasant surprise. 4. Yes! Nicky (old school blade) http://www.golftown.com/gtcommerce/s...-P8601C25.aspx I really liked the head weight and the ball roll with this putter. It just didn't match my putting stroke and I found it pushing and pulling because of that. Great putter for a true "open-closed" stroke. Good price for the quality too. 5. Yes! Tracy (Anser/blade hybrid) http://www.yesgolf.com/store/models.php?model=100 I found this putter very comparable to the Scotty's for head weight, ball roll and quality. I liked the grip so much I had my Bettinardi re-gripped the same. And same as the Yes Nicky, the price and quality of the Tracy was outstanding. 6. Mizuno Bettinardi C02 (Anser style) http://www.scorelow.com/item--Mizuno...OCSERIES2.html After reading these forums I couldn't pass on a $99 Anser Style milled putter. It was the only putter I couldn't return so I was taking more of a risk. I will say the quality is superb but the head is a little light for my tastes. After cutting the putter down to 32" I'm finding it more appealing but I'm finding that I play the Tracy far more than the Mizuno. Now that this journey is over I think everyone at Golf Town knows me by name.

Interesting read. I can't believe the endorsement numbers some of these guys are pulling in. Where's Sidney Crosby? He's on Canadian TV a few times every day pushing Reebok or Tim Horton's. I guess they don't pay THAT well.

I majored in human kinetics (sports science) in University. I learned allot about physics, mechanics and how they relate to sport and how many sports rely on similar principles. The stack and tilt goes against traditional weight transfer. Many other sports rely on this weight transfer (baseball, Hockey, Tennis etc.). This alone causes me to raise an eye brow.

I had the same issue as the OP, shin splint in my left leg only. It was agrivated by wearing golf shoes. I think the spikes on the shoes were really planting my foot and causing extra torque on the shin. When I started wearing my running shoes instead it helped to aleviate the pain for awhile. But I just have been playing way too much to let it rest properly.
