  1. I don't know...the fact that his wife and mom have cancer?
  2. It would take, for me, an awesome drive (280-285 yards) plus a perfect 4-iron (235 yards). Uh...yeah. Put me down for 2%. Maybe.
  3. You can watch Tiger, Padraig, and Rich Beem right now.
  4. 250ish yds, 2006 Maxima, 1200 SAT, and my wife is hot.
  5. Tiger Woods Corey Pavin Kenny Perry Sergio Garcia John Daly Just you watch.
  6. My wife's hobby is Facebook. On the one hand, that's free. On the other hand, golf is infinitely more expensive than freaking Facebook...so I almost feel like I'm sometimes not allowed to spend money on golf. So you're saying if I can get my wife to start riding horses and stuff then I can get a new driver, 3-wood, stand bag, and wedge? Okay, I'm going to give it a shot.
  7. I think of a classic swing as "seamless." It starts and ends without any hitches, jerks, skips, hops, or pauses, and it seems not to change speeds from takeaway to follow-through.
  8. Two things: 1) Your wife doesn't know you bought new golf clubs? 2) Horse stuff?
  9. Perhaps the original poster should have said "soft-spoken" or something like that. I don't think he meant anything by it.
  10. No beer on the course for me. I limit my drink to water, gatorade, coffee, and diet coke. After the round? Sure, it's Miller time. But not on the course...I just lose focus too easily. Matter of fact, I really enjoy a good cup of coffee (in the early morning) on the course.
  11. I was playing with my buddy and his dad once (probably ten years ago), and I was standing by my ball on the right edge of the fairway (about 250 yards from the tee). My buddy's dad had hit his drive about 170ish and in the left rough. So basically, his second shot was a mess, and I hear "FORE!" while I'm standing by my ball. I instinctively put my right hand (which was holding my wedge) in front of my eyes (I was wearing sunglasses) and began to turn my head. His ball nailed my grip, just inches away from my eyes. I'm serious, that ball could have blinded me. Oh, so the point of the post, relative to the thread. His ball was now in the fairway. I was the lucky bounce.
  12. Can you really blame a 47-handicapper for feeling he has accomplished something if he can hit the ball a long way? I agree, as well, that the obsession with length is misguided and silly. But I certainly don't blame a high handicapper (maybe I'm one of them) for rejoicing in hanging his hat on something.
  13. In 2007, some dude named Sam Walker shot 89 at Oakmont...according to: http://dontcostnothing.wordpress.com...-the-year-pga/ .
  14. Hang on a second; I need to go grab my conventional-to-metric conversion chart.
  15. Ending a phrase, clause, or sentence with a preposition is a stylistic matter, not a grammatical one. Tiger Curtis, if it's the paper you write for, then it's the paper you write for.
  16. Exactly. If you par every hole, he'll need to birdie 5 holes to beat you in the regulation 18. I like your chances. Fairways and greens. Nothing unnecessary. The bigger your lead becomes, the more desperate he will become...and he'll take the unnecessary shots you've been avoiding.
  17. Summer 1999. Beacon Lakes Golf Club, hole #7, 150 yards; the green is surrounded by water. I hit an 8-iron and practically screamed "that's in the hole!" as soon as the ball took flight. It landed four or five feet in front of the pin and rolled right in. I was only 19 years old, so no beer tab in the clubhouse. I had a couple of buddies with me, and I'm sure I paid for a round of Diet Cokes...so...Diet Coke tab: $4.50.
  18. 525cc??? That would be like swinging a stick with a shoebox on the end of it.
  19. Peace to you and your family. Somehow, I think your Grandma will find out about that round you played today.

I use a 10 year-old 300cc driver and a pretty old 220cc 3-wood. On the driving range lately, I've been hitting my 3-wood just as far as the dudes with the giant drivers. And straight, too. (Been working on some things in my swing to add distance.) Every time I pick up one of the newer drivers, it feels...unnatural? I may look for a newer driver than the one I have...maybe 360-380cc.
  21. $7 for a large bucket (90-100 balls). It's a lighted driving range with a great chipping/pitching green and a separate putting green.
  22. This made me laugh out loud. My 6 year-old daughter just asked what I'm laughing at. Uh...nothing...
  23. This reminds me of that episode of THE OFFICE when Michael Scott is wearing that women's suit. LOL... I'm glad you got the issue sorted out, and congratulations on the productive round!
