  1. I don't know, probably not though. Why?
  2. Sorry but this is ridiculous. If you truly made what Phil made, you wouldn't want to pay a larger percentage of taxes than other people do either. Phil makes a lot of money because he has incredible golf skills, has worked hard to maximize his earnings via tournaments, and turned himself into a brand name. It's called success and anyone who's interested in being successful doesn't want to be penalized for doing so. It's not Phil's fault he makes a lot of money at golf. If you want to be mad at something or someone, be mad at yourself for being a fan of golf and doing your part to make it a huge business. Somewhat off topic, but if this country would just do away with the ridiculous tax system and implemented a flat tax rate where we all pay the same percentage this stuff would be a non-story imo.
  3. I'm in Evanston and also not as good as others who have posted but if it works out I'd love to get a round in with some fellow TST'ers.
  4. I've almost changed out my entire bag since last year. When I started this game, I never knew I'd be such a club ho, lol. Hopefully I'm set for a while now. At least until I decide I need something different. Driver - R11S - got this at the beginning of last year 3W - Cleveland Hibore XLS - I've had this for a while 3H - Adams Super Hybrid - just picked this up 4-PW Mizuno JPX-825 - just got these 52W - Vokey - I got this at the beginning of last year 56W - Vokey - I've had this for 3 years now 60W - Cleveland CG - I got this on clearance midway through last year Putter - Oddyssey White Ice - I got this at the beginning of last year

  6. late to the party this year, but I'm in again.
  7. Santa brought me a swing byte which I can't wait to start using but that of course depends on the weather. This isn't from Santa, but the wife also just approved purchase of JPX-825s. Hopefully I can find time to go get fitted this week.
  8. Is that really cheating though? It's not like he intentionally broke a rule to gain an unfair advantage. I'm not necessarily saying I agree with how he went about things, but to say he cheated seems awfully strong. If you ask me, it's kind of a weird situation where the lines may not be so black and white. After he realized the scoring error, he may have been wondering in his mind things like, "did I really touch the leaf?, maybe I shouldn't have even penalized myself to begin with", etc. Again, I'm not saying I think he handled this perfectly (of course, to do so he would have correctly applied the penalty to begin with) but in my opinion I think there is some truth to "better late than never".
  9. I budget $1200 a year for greens fees and try to stick to less expensive courses while mixing in the occasional nice course. I probably spend about $200 a year on misc stuff, balls, tees, gloves, etc. Last year I bought a brand new driver ($400) and this year I think I will buy new irons which I figure $600 - $800. So all told, probably between $1400 - $2000 a year.
  10. I'm clearly in the minority but I like the look of it. Reminds me a bit of a sailboat we used to have and I loved that sailboat.
  11. I still don't agree that the financial status of the club makes it a big deal. Private enterprises do things all the time contrary to popular opinion. I also don't agree that their history makes it a big deal. They used to hold a tournament there when it was ok with the tour do so at clubs with men only membership. Now they don't, so what? For what it's worth, I'm not sure I believe that they're hurting financially. And if they are, they're dumb, but it's their choice to be dumb.
  12. I don't see what the big issue is. Here in Evanston (suburb of Chicago) we have a women's club. It's for women only. No one complains about it, especially men because men don't want to be there. Once again, it's for women only. Since when did it become a bad thing to have a club for men (or women)? We're talking about recreation, people, get a grip.
  13. I ride 12 miles to work and back all the time. Longer in the mornings for exercise and enjoyment. 8.2mi is a very doable ride to get to the golf course. 40 min is not bad, but you could probably get there a bit faster if you wanted. Not sure what the topology is, obviously if you have some big hills on the way that could slow you down.

    Anyone else?

My all time lowest scoring rounds have been with friends, but I more often than not have a blow up day when I play with friends. I think I try too hard, to be honest. In general I find I am a more consistent golfer when I go to the course solo but get paired with strangers. It seems backwards, but it takes the pressure off and allows me to focus more.
  15. I think it's a wise move for presidents to refrain from regular recreational activities like golf while in office. Being the president of the US is the single most important job in this country. If you want everything that goes with being POTUS, then some sacrifices for the relatively short time in office are not uncalled for. I'm not suggesting the president never play golf again, but maybe keep it to a round while on vacation or something like that. He (or any president) has the rest of his life to play as much golf as he wants.
  16. I find it interesting that there is one individual spewing more hate than anyone on this entire thread combined, and yet no one on the left side is suggesting this is a problem. Isn't this part of the problem you have with the right? That they're all biased, hateful, racist, and ignorant, or something like that? Maybe not you personally, but generally? Me personally, I think folks should be able to act grown up - disagree and still be friends, and act friendly towards one another. Yes, there are a lot of hot button issues that get people worked up but name calling while accusing someone of being a hater isn't getting anyone anywhere. I plan to vote for Romney, not because I believe in the man himself so much, but I consider myself conservative and want to see our country be more fiscally responsible. I'd like to see smaller government. I think Romney lines up with those ideals and Obama doesn't.
  17. Aren't you supposed to be the compassionate party and the republicans the hateful party? Your vitriol for people with differing opinions shows your true colors.
  18. There's no guarantee that it would have been 11 - 5. I found it questionable at the time that PM and KB sat but I also went to bed thinking we had the cup practically sewn up. The reality is that we got our butts kicked on Sunday. If we had shown up to play on Sunday, DL3 would have no detractors.
  19. I don't think DL3 did that bad a job as some of you are making out. I found it questionable that he sat Phil and Keegan on Saturday and didn't break up Woods and Stricker just to try something different, but despite that at the end of the day Saturday, the US team was in prime position to win the cup. The matchups were pretty good today but unfortunately the Euros flat our kicked our butts. Had the US delivered like we expected, those two questionable decisions would be nothing but footnotes. Congrats to the Euro team.
  20. I'm not exactly a Greg Norman fan, and I definitely don't agree with him on this issue. Regarding the whole taking over from Jack thing though, wasn't Norman #1 for 300+ weeks? I know he doesn't have the PGA tour wins Tiger or Jack had, or the Major wins, but doesn't the #1 run along with 90 professional wins (20 PGA tour, 14 Euro, lots of "other") put him in a category with a select number of individuals? I could understand the thinking I guess.
  21. I've been playing the Srixon Qstars most of this season. I think they feel great and the price is fairly reasonable.
  22. I think the tweet to Gil Hanse reads like some good natured ribbing from one friend to another. If Donald and Hanse aren't freindly it's kinda weird though.
  23. As an inconsistent golfer constantly aspiring to improve, understanding the truth about ball flight has helped me greatly on the course. Understanding why the ball started right and kept going right has greatly increased my ability to self correct from shot to shot. I can't understand why anyone wouldn't find the knowledge beneficial as an aid, even if it's easier to think of shot shaping in the "old" way.
  24. Tiger Woods -12 Hunter Mahan -12 Zach Johnson -12
  25. I'm afraid I'd have to disagree with you. I've seen weed on the course one time I can think of. No one I know who golfs regularly smokes weed. In fact, I don't know anyone who smokes weed regularly. But, before you say, " well you just wouldn't know it..." I used to smoke weed everyday when I was a youngster. I'm well aware of weed smoking when I do encounter it.
