questions: Sun Mountain Speed Cart
calvie7 replied to treebound's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
I own one, don't know the model but the plastic hatch, if it's the same one i have, i have to punch it to get it to close. I have never had an issue with it tipping over. Remember it's a 3 wheeled cart, and it will fall over if given an opportunity on a side hilll. angle the front wheel slightly down hill, put on the annoyingly tight bicycle break, and you'll be fine. Mine has never fallen over, unless i rolled it down a hill and it hit a sunken sprinler head... that is an opperator error, not the cart's fault. What did you pay for the thing? -
Hey Sand Trappers, I was at the range working on my irons and hitting my AP2's about 80-100 balls each day. I was working on approach shots 6i-PW. I noticed something funny. I was not trying to work the ball and with every club but my 9 iron i was within a few feet right or left of the target. With my 9i, every shot was 15 feet to the left of the target each time. After looking closer at setup i noticed that the lie angle of the club seemed different, noticeably toe up! This seemed like it would be a good explanation for shooting each ball to the left When I purchased the AP2's i had them fitted. The result was 3/4-1 inch longer depending on club, and 2 degrees flat. This was less than a year ago, and given that the Winter here can prohibit any playing, i would say that the 9i has been in real service for 6 months. I do practice every day, but i noticed the change very recently. My question is, how quickly can the angle change on forged clubs? Has this happened to anybody else, and when you went back in to have them adjusted how far off where they from your initial starting point? Any other information is much appreciated! I am going to go in and have them adjusted again soon, I just hate to be without them at the beginning of the real season for any length of time!

Can a golf ball make such a difference?
calvie7 replied to andef's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
Similar to me, I played 14 holes at 3 under, and 4 holes at 10 over... Not likely that it was the ball if you know what i mean. When you fat it into a creek, and duck hook it into a pond that you should have never looked at in the first place, you can't blame the ball... I play different premium balls just to try them out, and the are all virtually the same. if you were switching from a premium to a non-urethane ball and your shots were rolling off the back into water it would be a different story. Penalties my friend, avoid them using any ball that's in front of you! -
Irons - why is a thin profile desirable?
calvie7 replied to Dave H's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I think that we are off topic here and missing the point of the debate. I play AP2's and while they aren't blades, the have a relatively thin sole and topline. The point, after reading all of the posts, is that most people think that lower handicap players play the "players irons" because they help them. While this perception may be true the real truth is that lower handicap players have learned to control their swing, wichch is both the swing path and the clubface at impact. So while we are on topic saying that you can "work the ball" easier with a "players club" the point is that the better players have learned to control the slice/fade and hook/draw to their advantage. The OP asked why it's desirible to have a thiner profile. The reason is that if you control what the ball does in the air, you can use it to your advantage. If you cant then you need to eliminate the movement of the ball in the air all together. So basically better players don't want to eliminate the ability to move the ball in the air, while pepole who are learning and dont have a constant swing need to just hit it strait. That's what the club companies are getting at. Unfortunately the message by better players is louder, in that we want to work the ball, but really we can control the slice and hook to our advantage. Can I play with GI irons just as well? Absolutely, and I'd probably score just as well. So people ask the question why would you want to hit a club that is harder to hit? Because to me it's not harder because I hit it in the center of the clubface, at the same place every time. I can control the spinn of the ball, thus I don't need help from the club to do so. That's the difference. If you can't control the ball, then the GI irons can help, if you can then you don't need them in the first place. I hope this helps, anyway it's just my perspective on the whole debate. -
Best place to buy golf polos?
calvie7 replied to Philip9210's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
I was in Ross looking for a costume... I realized that they get all of the "last year model" shirts from nike, and a couple other brands... I saw a shirt that tiger wore in a tournament last year there it was $9.99. That is a great place for stuff. I am against paying over $30 for a golf shirt just on principle. On another note I saw the message from the guy in Norway, and he's right we Americans have sizes that are much larger than the rest of the world... I am 6'1 and 170, i can sometimes medium's that I swim in... I am not barrel cheasted, but for some reason I feel like most shirts have too much material at the bottom, they need to be tapered, and we Americans need to lose weight on the whole... Sorry for the rant, but it is true... maybe more people could walk 18 holes, and lose weight. -
WOW, getting used to all those new sticks at once will be a challenge, one that I would love to tackle. I like the gross of golf balls on the table, what was the final bill if you don't mind sharing?

What brand of golf ball do you use?
calvie7 replied to Woters's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
I think that they are still a little cold, it's still freezing at night here... So it's not anything out of the ordinary... I am just carrying a ball mark repair tool in vain right now. Soon it'll be constant warm summer days, and I'll need to use that ball mark repair tool... Until then I need some extra spin! -

calvie7 replied to Woters's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
I switched to the Srixon TriSpeed, but the greens are just too firm here in Colorado in the spring, nothing sticks to them... I think i'll go with the high end Bridgestone ball for some extra spin on the greens until there is a divot to repair... Currently I can hit a green here with a towering 8 iron and surprisingly not have a divot to repair, and the ball has rolled off the back... not cool. In the summer I'll give the Srixon another try. -
I do, and wouldn't reccommend anything heavy, good slow tempo'd music really helps... it may sound lame, but it really hepls... Also listen to things that are calming... and get the head phones designed for runners as they won't fall out due to the hook that goes over your ear!

Where in Colo Springs would you recommend? Also I think the best golf deal anywhere is throug a place called club tee time... you buy certificates at sams, and tell them where and when, and they call ahead with their credit card number... once you get there it's paid for... oh and you get the certificates for 25% off at sams. I have used them for 2 years now and it's never failed! Thanks for the Springs suggestions though.

I played saturday and we were on a blind dogleg, when a ball landed and rolled to within 5 feet of where one of my playing partners were, obviously they didn't know where we were, or how far... My guess is that this was a career shot and the guy didn't even know what he did. Anyway as my playing partner was in the line of fire he did one of the classiest things i have seen and simply put his tee that was in his pocket in the ground next to the ball to indicate that it got close to us. On the next tee the guy who did it ran up to us and apologized. Cooler heads always prevail. As my playing partner is in his mid 60's he definately has an attitude to learn from, and is setting a good example. I encourrage the OP to be mindful and remember that people don't play golf to hurt others intentionally, though we are all trying to hit a little ball a long way, and sometimes it doesn't go as planned.

Just got the new White Ice Rossie. It has a harder face than previous white hot models to emulate the tour preferred hard metal faces... I find it's still much softer and with the weight of the Rossie, my distance control has benefited instatnly. I would give it time get used to the feel and focus on that distance control... delav, I used to live in Omaha on another note, and I miss playing Benson. I think it's a great course, and for a great price, sorry to get off topic here.!

Question for those of you with back problems...
calvie7 replied to tws1098's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
As someone who has fought a chronic pinched nerve in my spine, I can say that your answer lies in exercise designed to build the muscles around the problem area. Disk problems may be different but strength training and stretch training at the same time could be your answer. YOGA! I do P90X, and haven't had any problems since. I really am not pushing p90x, any similar program will do, I just know it has yoga, and a real tough yoga, that has made all the difference. If u do it, go slow. Good luck -
I have the original speed cart. And while I have a great carry bag, haven't carried for years. It has really helped my back. I would also recommend building back muscle. I started a workout program and it helped my game in addition to eliminating back pain. I do p90x but there are a lot of options out there. Even pushing the cart hurt my back if I played too often or on a long hilly course. I had a pinched nerve along my spine that I had to learn how to stretch, and pushing a cart up a hill made it worse. Physical therapy and working out combined with the push cart fixed it all. I'll be playing for a very long time... Long story short, get a push cart, take your bag to the store and test a few out.

Wow, i can appreciate wanting any advantage possible, but I am not sure that I see the advantage of a more tacky glove... the standard synthetic and rubber grip is way more than enough to keep control at the bottom. Are you thinking that they will be more durable? I don't think there is a rule against it to answer your question, but while they are more tacky, they may be more restrictive, and thus end up hurting your game. I would encourrage you to get a $15 golf glove and go to the range and compare, if it doesn't work, stuff it into your bag for a rainy day when you could use a glove change or as just a back up.

Yeah, if it was user driven it would be better than making the company input evrything.

Is anybody able to import courses from a list instead of "mapping" all the courses yourself? Seems that this would be a nice feature, and save everyone time.

Mizuno Bettinardi deal... thoughts?
calvie7 replied to calvie7's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I went to Golfsmith yesterday evening, and the two BC1 and BC2 are extremely similar! the feel like the same weighting, the BC1 is more toe down, but by probably about 1/8 a turn, so not too much the BC2 is a 1/8 turn toe down. The feel of the two were almost identical, I preferred the BC2, because it would seem to get caught less in rough at the edge of the fringe... always had a preference for something that will provide relief in this situation. Overally they are very similar, so much so that I think it's a strange offering from Golfsmith, they could have offered 2 more different styles of the same line. Anyway It seems that Golfsmith has received a big shipment and in the store they aren't labled as a sale item, just some information. -
Mizuno Bettinardi deal... thoughts?
calvie7 replied to calvie7's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Saddily yes... i played a few rounds with the "Yes" putter and i just don't like the head weight... and given the importance of "look" i just can't add lead tape to the head, it's a matter or principle. -
I am in the market for a new putter and i noticed that Golfsmith has an amazing deal on the Mizuno Bettinardi putters. Has anybody had experience with these? I am headed to the store to check them out in a couple of hours, and if the wife doesn't throw a fit (i have lots of putters) then i may pull the trigger. Anyway any feedback on these would be appreciated. As a disclaimer i am not looking to drop a couple of hundred on a Scottie, they just don't fit my eye. I am looking specifically for input on these... http://www.golfsmith.com/products/MZ..._Carbon_Putter

calvie7 replied to enis750's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
This may be an odd question, but how do you know what shaft will work with that particular head? have you tried it? -
Yep I ended up purchasing a used yes, one of the original ones they made I think... I also made a trip to the Yes Factory here in denver, and got "fitted" amazing experience... they put a weight in the shaft that makes controlling the distance very easy for me. If you ever make a trip to Colorado and have a YES, or want one, make a trip there... Fitting with the weight and a new grip was $30. Great Value!
