You're right enis, I'm glad my friends care that much to buy me a Scotty. I'm really looking forward to getting it. Funny thing, I wasn't really interested in getting a Scotty anymore cuz I figured that after spending 2K on my clubs my dad would wait until I turned stratch to get me the bladed putter I was looking for. I'm truly shocked! Dan, thanks for the suggestion. Sounds like a great book and I will look into getting it, I feel like my putting held me back from being around a 3/4. I give myself way too many birdie opportunities and keep missing them. Lately, my putts have gone down to about 30 per round while they used to be around 34 a few months back.

Thanks guys. That's pretty much what I wanted to hear. I figured it would take a while to get used to it but I have at least 4 months before the start of the season and with a practice putting green at home I hope to get used to it come spring time. I'm unsure about the grip, I really like the soft tacky ones (Winn style) my putter came with so I might have to change that.

Well I think this thread is more about sharing the awesome day I had yesterday but I have a few questions that Scotty owners can answer. Basically, a few weeks ago I sent out invites for my birthday party and my golf buddy, joking around, suggested that he would get a bunch of people together and buy me a Scotty. I didn't think much of what he said until last night, when he gets to my place and gives me a card. On it a picture of a Scotty, wishing me good luck in getting into a golf program at the University of Birmingham and the hope that I will stop complaining about the looks of my putter now that I have a blade. It's extremely difficult to describe how ecstatic I am at the moment. Unfortunately, the putter is being shipped to where I live but should get here sometime next week. I'm still shocked at present though! Now after this long story, I'd like to ask a few questions about the club. Seeing as I've never had the chance to putt with one, how different will the feel be to an insert putter like the one in my sig? Does it take a long time to get adjusted to it? Just recently, unfortunately at the end of the season, my putting had started to come around and I was doing quite well and I want to make sure that switching putters won't be a step backwards. Thanks for the help, andef P.S. It's a Studio Select Newport 2 :)

I agree with you on that one. I feel like a significant amount of people lie about distances and their index. I'm not claiming everyone does, there are a lot of reasonable people on here who just enjoy to talk golf and get advice and stuff, while others lie to the extent that they contradict themselves in their next post. I am in no way a great golfer, yet I'm satisfied with my index after 2 years of playing and do not lie about my distances. I'm the first one to admit it, I'm in no way a strong kid and a great drive for me is in the 270-280 range. My only hope is that there are more people on this forum who enjoy to talk about golf and other things more than to lie about their skills. Now, going back to the topic, this might not have been the best solution but I'm with you on the fact that he's been "trolling" the forum for a while. Some of the things he says don't make any sense or contradict previous posts right away. What if he actually is a +0.2 and has an awesome swing and drives 305 yards? Am I the only one to see a new Tiger Woods in him? Haha

How many years since Vokey wedges stoped being forged?
andef replied to CrazyXGolfer's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Do your Vr wedges feel 100000000x better than the Clevelands then? I wonder what a forged wedge feels like if the Cleveland are amazing. -
Titleist for me. I am already used to their clubs and wouldn't be too sad if I got a chance to try 50 different scotty cameron putters only made for me. I guess being a lefty has its advantages.

Favorite club in your bag and dream club
andef replied to FlopShotArtist's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
1. My 58* LW. Often saves me and sets up many birdie opportunities. 2. Titleist 910 metals. I'd love to replace all my metal woods with those. Love the option of the Project X shaft in them as well as the option to open the clubface. It would make my 3 wood and 2 hybrid much more reliable. -
Echoing what Gerald said, the rough surface of the Vokeys has nothing to do with the "spin milling". The groove itself is spin milled, not the little lines between the grooves. As far as I've read, those are caused by the machining process.

Chipped in for par on 2 (400 yard par 4) after a poor 2nd / 3rd shot. Hit a 500 yard par 5 in two and had a tap in for birdie. Hit a 6 iron to 4 feet on 13 (155 yard par 3). These were the best shots I had today. Not sure which one is better so I'm voting for all three. All of this while playing in a temperature of 39* F.

A draw bias club is used by those who can't square the clubface at impact, most likely a slicer. Most people suggest to avoid buying them because as your swing will improve, the clubface will be square to the target more often and a draw club will not help hit straight shots. On the other hand, fade clubs are easier to control for those who have no problems squaring the clubface at impact. Their "miss" is most likely a hook and the open clubface improves the chances of that not happening.

Worth worrying about a couple of degrees of wedge bounce?
andef replied to Stretch's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Bending the 56 to 54 to have 11 degrees of bounce would be fine and play as a sand wedge (at least that's how I use it). Bending the 56 to 58, giving you 12 wouldn't be a good idea to me. The strength of my 58 is that I can get under the ball easily when I need to, 12 degrees of bounce is too much in my opinion. -
Scotty "Del Mar" or Oddyssey Tour Series #9
andef replied to JakeC's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
What kind of answer are you looking for? Some people will say that nothing feels like a Scotty and blah blah. Pick whichever one feels better to you. I would go for the Odyssey, simply don't like the look of the Del Mar and the color of the finish. -
The gaps seem fine to me. How confident are you with 20 yard gaps between some of your wedges?

Odyssey XG White Hot Sabertooth 34 inch. Had 28 putts with it today :)

We're all here to help! From your description I'd say go for a lower launching / spinning shaft. Keep in mind that adding 30 grams of weight (to have a normal 3 wood shaft weight) will naturally bring the spin rate down significantly. I'd keep the Burner if I were you, it's a good head that you are comfortable with it seems. I'd look for a UST Proforce V2 or the Grafalloy Prolaunch Red. I might be wrong, but I heard the latter is on sale at rockbottom golf for like 20 $ so I figure it shouldn't be too expensive to get it from your pro either. Keep those two shafts in mind when you make your final decision. In addition, talking to your pro could also give you a better idea of what shaft you're looking for and I doubt he'd suggest something that wouldn't fit your swing just because he would make more money out of it.

I'd assume the specs play a role in the distance difference. In addition, isn't the "tight lies" the starter set version of Adams hybrids? That could also be a reason why one is 30 yards longer than the other.

Vokey Wedges vs. Everything else...
andef replied to toddmlazarchick's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I really like them. Main reason why I got them was the fact that one of the pros here suggested them when I got custom fit for my irons. He said, "don't consider anything else". Seeing as I trusted Titleist with my irons I did the same thing with the wedges. They feel nice, a bit harsh when you mishit them, but both trajectory and spin are good for my game. Most importantly, I've gotten used to them so I know how to hit the shot I want to hit. However, I suppose I could do the same thing with any other wedge around the same price range. I like Vokeys and am used to them so that's the main reason why I'm not considering switching to another brand. The thing that annoys me about them is the lack of finish option for leftys. Don't really care for the low/high bounce option that's not available but I'd prefer to have the black nickel finish on my wedges. -
I'd say every attempt to improve your game is a legit one. Personally, I've never tried it and would not consider it, I find that it makes maintaining your balance easier. As an example, I played with my buddy today and he forgot his golf shoes. He played with flat soled Lacoste shoes and slipped 2/3 times. Towards the end of the round he added that the lack of traction / grip cost him a few strokes in his opinion.

Here: This should give you a pretty good idea of spin on "half wedge shots". BTW the entire article is here: http://www.golfdigest.com/golf-equip...alls_spinchart

I like my Titleist 909 F2 3 wood. Though it isn't the longest wood out there (combination of higher loft and shorter shaft than most 3 woods) it's quite accurate and easy to work, something I find important for such a long club.
-
Personally, I'd say it depends on what you use your 5 wood for. If it's a club that you hit from the tee often, a lower ball flight with mid-low spin will keep you in the fairway more often. If it's a club that you use to try and get home on a par 5, a higher trajectory will help. In addition, the conditions you play in also play a role. Being a junior as well, I was faced with a similar decision around April when I was about to buy my Titleist 909 F2 3-wood. I had the option of putting in a Aldila Voodoo, Matrix Ozik X Con 6 or a MRC Diamana Blue. The height of my shots would have increased with the latter whilst the former would have been more accurate off the tee due to the lower spin. In the end, I opted for the Matrix because I use it in both occasion and I play in very windy conditions and it launches just a touch higher than the Aldila.

Congrats on finding the right putter for your game! It's not my style but you should game whatever gives you confidence when stepping up to hit a putt.
-
JB you are right. None of the sets they CURRENTLY produce includes a 2-iron. So shorty, why has he written this? Because they don't. If you want to find a Mizuno 2 iron you have to look for a set that they stopped producing. Plus, according to Mizuno, the MP Fli Hi is a mix between hybrid and iron rather than an actual iron.
-
Here are both of the videos from youtube: Thanks for the help. And just to add on, I'm also working on the finish with the shorter irons. Don't really like the way it looks at the moment.

Ye it works the same way out here, which is quite annoying. Though we only go up if the score is 33 stableford points or less. I'm hoping it works differently in the UK, that's where I'll be playing halfway through next year.
