  1. Par 5 480 Drove into some trees on the right. Punched out to about 170. The wind was blowing about 15 mph right into my face. I picked out a 5i and blasted it towards the hole with a slight fade. Dropped onto the green with one hop, then stopped about 10-12 ft short of the hole. Proceeded to miss the putt. Story of my life.
  2. What is everyones opinion of the R7 irons. I'm looking to replace my 8+ year old irons in the next week or so. I don't have a ton of money to spend ($500) and the R7s have caught my eye. I hit them vs the Callaway X18s at a local Dicks. It was indoors so I couldn't see the ball flight. I did prefer the feel of the R7s as well as the appearance at address. I just started playing again after a 6 year hiatus from the game. I've been out twice and scored a 76 and 86 at a local course. I'm hitting my irons well except for the occasional slice and fat shot. I think that's just inconsistency in my swing from being away from the game so long. I want an iron that will help me get back to my previous 8 handicap and improve beyond that point. I really need them fitted, so I am going to take them to a local fitter and have them adjusted, especially length. I'm 6'3 and have been playing standard length irons my whole life. I am fitting my swing to my clubs and not the other way around.
  3. Shot an 86 on Friday from the back tees at the local muni. Total opposite of my last round which was a 76. My driving sucked, I hit 2 fairways all day. But my irons were way better, hitting 10 greens from the rough and other bad places. My last round I hit 10 fairways and 9 greens because my iron play was very rough. My putting still sucked, with 35 putts for the round. Hitting a lot of putts off the toe and missing to the right. Going to the range today to work on the wooks and I will be spending a lot of time on the putting green.
  4. I have one. It gives me a mid launch with a solid hit, though it will go high if the ball is hit high on the face. But that's to be expected. Overall I'm happy with it.
  5. I'd throw a fit. That's pretty much one of the crappiest things I've ever heard happen. The other was at a match I was playing in high school where a kid on the other team hit a ball into a tree. It came back and hit him square in the face and gave him a bloody nose and nasty bruise. He was then asessed a penalty for touching his ball when in play or something. They ended up losing the match by 2 strokes.
  6. Taylor Made 08 Burner 3 rescue. I
  7. I like my 08 TM burner rescue club, 19 deg. I am having a few issues with topping it, but that's my fault with a new club. When hit solid it gets up quick, straight and lands soft on the green. I can't hit a 3 iron consistent enough to keep one in my bag, so I use the hybrid instead. I may get a 4 hybrid at one point to make my 4 iron a thing of the past.
  8. I keep mine on silent if playing with others and check every few holes. By myself, I keep it on low because the only person I'll bother is myself.
  9. I play one of the original Scottys. I love it and I am very confident with it. I've had it for almost 10 years I think and I don't plan on giving it up. I am going to send it back to Cameron and have it refinished instead of buying a new one.
  10. I hate when anyone gives me "advice" on the course or range. I'm working on getting my lower body involved more, so I was hitting very poorly on the range for a while. It seemed someone always knew what I was doing wrong, even though I had just completly changed my swing and was gettting things back together.
  11. I have R flex on my of my clubs. I have a lot of swing speed and hit my driver a consistent 260, up to 280. I used to hit a lot of slices and balloon my woods until I switched to a S flex. Now my ball flight is much better and more consitently straight. My next set of irons will have S flex shafts to hopefully carry the experience from my woods over.
  12. I looked at a local used sporting goods place today for a replacement Vokey for my 55 which is a little beat up. They only had some well priced Nike fairway woods though.
  13. It's one of the best balls I've played. Before I quit for a few years I played the Titleist Professional and Pro V1. I've never had a problem with spinning balls off irons and I have a high ball flight, so they stop quick. Played one round with the e6+ Friday, I hit more fairways with my driver then I used to hit with my 3-wood. I was getting good distance, consistent 260 yds with my biggest drive right around 285. My irons went the distance they should have and stopped well on the greens. I stopped a 6 iron in 3 ft and most wedges would check and run, but that was the shot I was playing. I backed up a 9 iron about a foot on a par 3 also. Overall it's one of the best balls I have played. One day when my game improves more I'll probably switch to something with higher spin, but until I am unable to stop balls on my local courses, I'll stick with the e6+.
  14. I got hit in the face in HS when I was a caddie. I was on the right of the fairway next to a large patch of pine trees maybe 150 yds off the tee. Somehow the guy on the tee hit it through the trees right into the side of my face. It hurt a lot and he claimed it wasn't his ball and never apoligized. My parents knew some high up people at the club and he was suspended from playing for 6 months.
  15. I'm lucky that I caddied for years when I was younger. I can almost always find my ball. I played 18 Friday solo and hit a few errant shots. Found every one and never looked for more then a minute or two. I just got good at following a ball in mid-air and understanding where it drops. The only time I lose a ball is when it's OB, in a hazard, or takes a really odd bounce into something real thick. It just takes practice and sunglasses.
  16. Par 5, 460 yds. 6 iron approach to within 15 ft for eagle. Then missed the ealge about 1" low, then tapped in a 2' putt for birdie.
  17. I haven't played in 6 years and have been hitting the range hard the last few weeks. Got a new driver, Big Bertha 460, and am finally hitting well off the tee for the first time in my life. I played a local county course (65.3/110) today and dominated it. It was one of those days where it all seems to work out. The course was short off the whites, 5344 yds, so next time I'm playing the blues. I was cranking my drives 260-280 off the tee using the Bridgestone E6+ ball. Either with a slight draw or fade. I was walking and on the back nine my draws turned into a slight fade, probably from walking in the 95 degree temps. I was able to knock light 51 deg wedges into most of the greens, sometimes rolling it through into the fringe or pulling the shot a little. I need to do a bunch of work on my short game. Longest iron I hit into a green was a 8 iron 140 into the wind. Hit 5 iron and 6 iron approaches into two of the par 5s. Total of 76 with 3 birdies and a double on a 95 yd par 3. 33 putts, most of my approaches ended up being a little less accurate then I would have liked. 9 green in regulation 9 fairways. I had a 3-4 drives run through into the first cut. I'm excited to play next week and I'll try from the blues to see how I do from a little further back.
  18. A blue dot on each side of the manufacturers name, both sides.
  19. Back in HS when I caddied (1998-2001) it depended on which country club I was at. The better one, Plainfield Country Club, I typically got a minimum of $50 per bag. If the player wanted me to participate more in their game and they liked what I did for them, I've gotten up to $120 for a bag. The higher rates typically occurred when you had only one bag to carry and could spend more time with the player. I'd say average was about $60 and I typically carried two bags.

    Eagles?

I can't remember, I put 3, but it's probably 5 or maybe a few more. There was one hole where I used to play that was about 500 yds, but they last 200 yds or so was seriously down hill. I could hit 3w, 5i into that hole a lot of times and sometimes managed to knock in the 10-20 ft putt I'd have.
  21. Personally, I'd try to get to some local demo days if available in your area. It's really tough to pick out a set of clubs without hitting them first. I've bought some woods that felt good in the store just swinging them and looking at them at address, but I couldn't hit them worth a damn on the course. I'm sure others have had the same experience.
  22. When I was playing in high school, at the peak of my skills before not playing for 6 years, I played a course in Williamsberg, VA from the back tees. They played a PGA tournament there at one point. The course was over 7k yards. It was brutal and I was consitently hitting a 3W off the tee 260. Instead of playing an 8i or 9i into a green, I was hitting a 5 iron most of the time. One par 5 was 600 yds long, I hit 3w, 5w, 8i into that hole. I managed to shoot an 89, but that was the last time I played on the black tees.
  23. Figured this would be a good way to introduce myself. I just started playing again last week after a 6 year hiatus. I played in high school and the beginning of college, but stopped playing when I moved to Fl and had no one to play with. I used to have an 8 handicap, but not so much at the moment. I am still playing all my old clubs: 3w: Taylor Made Ti bubble 2 5w: Orlimar Tri-metal 3i-9i: Tommy Armor 845s 51 wedge: Vokey 55 wedge: Vokey 60 wedge: Cleveland BeCu Putter: Scotty Cameron Del Mar 2 TeI3 Just picked up a Callaway Big Bertha 460 with Aldila NVS still shaft to fill my open driver slot. I bought a Callaway Hawkeye years ago, but was never able to hit it well enough to keep it in the bag. I used to be able to hit my 3 wood 260+ off the tee, so a driver wasn't really necessary. I hope the grapefruit on the end of the shaft on this club will be a little more forgiving then the old drivers I'm used to. Got it for $100 and it's barely used, not sky marks or anything. Working on fighting a push right now, I'm swinging from the inside, so that should be a relatively easy fix. Some inconsistency issues too as would be expected from not swinging a club in 6 years (some fat shots, some tops, etc). Overall I'm excited to be playing again and am enjoying hanging out on here and learning about everything that has changed in the last few years.
  24. It just doesn't get the coverage that men's golf does, plus people want to see athletes do things that they can't dream of doing themselves. The shorter length and strength of female golfers disuades most men from seriously watching.
  25. Just finished my masters, now waiting to enlist in the Army as a combat medic.
