  1. Like everyone says, go for what you like after you test them. I'd agree, Mizuno blades are all pretty sweet clubs, although I've never owned any I have hit some. I got my taylormade rac MB's back in 2003 and loved them too, enough to get a set of the TP MB smokes about 2 weeks ago. You should try those out too if given the opportunity, I still can't get over how they look and feel. Definitely not forgiving, but at a 2.4 hdcp, I think you could manage :P
  2. So, I was wrong. Here's how it really went down: Good drive, 2nd shot to greenside bunker, fried-egg lie skulls it out of trap over the green, hacks it out back over the green into same bunker, leaves 5th shot in bunker, finally hit 6th shot out of bunker. 2 putt. Oh Phil....
  3. I'm guessing by just being Phil. Although, I'm fairly surprised it is on a Thursday and not a Sunday.... I'd probably put money on a 4 putt.
  4. I'm wondering if that is one of the wedges from commercials a while back... I used to, every now and then, see a commercial for a wedge and they had this crazy test to show how much backspin you could put on a ball. Basically, they had a guy hit a full shot off a mat in a concrete parking lot, the ball would come down and take a normal cartpath-like bounce high & forward, but then on the second bounce it would literally bounce back towards the guy who hit it! I always thought that was pretty awesome to watch, haha
  5. I know there are weight rings you can get for your club(s), much like the "doughnuts" you can put on a baseball bat. I'm sure you can find them pretty quickly with a google search. I'll usually just grab 2 clubs at once to loosen my arms up, works well enough for me!
  6. This season I have played mostly with the Bridgestone Tour B330. I used to play the Pro-V1x, but after getting new wedges I cut the covers too much. I feel that I get the same feel/distance/action across the board w/ the Bridgestones that I got w/ the Titleists but the covers hold up MUCH better for me. I just recently got a dozen Callaway Tour iX that I am going to try out. A local golf store here is going out of business and had a huge sale. They had balls for 30% off, but Callaway was about the only thing left when I got there. So I'm going to see how those work for me the next month or so!
  7. When I played in high school, this was particularly true for my team. We were known to be a fairly decent team, but we only had 2 or 3 really solid, consistent players. Our matches played 9 holes and took the best 4 of 6 scores. So, we could usually come out close to the top if we had a 4th play well, but usually ended up around 3rd out of 8 teams or so. But at our home course, which we played everyday when we didn't have a match, we never lost, and I'd say we won our matches by double digits 75% of the time. The front nine was just wacky enough w/ hole shapes and distances that we had the biggest "home course advantage" in the county and region. I would totally agree with everyone on the greens though, knowing how they break and the spots to avoid when hitting approaches is a very helpful tool.
  8. Ditto here. I used to have a factory graphite shaft in my 3wood, but I changed it out to a steel shaft at the start of this season. I would say I maybe lost a bit of yardage with it, but I hit it WAY more accurate. I think the most common "school of thought" would be that graphite = distance, steel = accuracy. But nothing ever works universally... I agree w/ someone up there, you don't see many players 20-30 or even older playing with graphite irons. But IMHO as long as they aren't too weak for your swing there shouldn't be too much of an issue.
  9. When I was in high school in NC, we played in a 3-day tourney down there over our Spring Break junior year (2002, wow...) I don't remember every hole, but my overall impression of the course(s) was very high! Honestly, the quality of golf down in SC (espec. Myrtle Beach and HH) is so good you're almost guaranteed to enjoy the experience. I do remember the 1st hole of one course in particular, probably due to my terrible tee shot in front of 50+ people and subsequent triple bogey.... but the course was very nice, challenging, and fun to play. I really don't remember much about the "stay" itself, so sorry I'm no help there.
  10. I use a glove on my left hand, always have and probably always will. I usually have tape in a few places on my right hand to keep blisters away where i commonly get them. I always take my glove off for putting however, and some short-game shots I will take my glove off as well, mostly "touch" or "feel" shots I would call them.
  11. Sunflower seeds. Lots and lots of sunflower seeds.... Then just the usual: tees (natural color, HATE tee marks on my clubs), a few good balls, a few bad ones, pencils/pens/sharpies, rain cover, 2 gloves. If I'm walking then my gatorade/whatever goes in there as well. I try to keep it to a minimum so my bag isn't heavy, keep most of my weather stuff in the car where i can carry it if the clouds look bad. I used to carry a ball retriever, but I stopped. I find that it brings me bad karma! Carrying one usually caused me the need to use it!
  12. I carry driver, steel-shafted 3 wood, 3-pw irons, 52* gap w, 56* sand w, 60* lob w, and the trusty putter. Used to carry a 5w instead of the lob wedge, but I never have the need for 5w yardage, so I got rid of it.
  13. I'd totally recommend them for someone like woodzie mentioned above, and even for some mid-handicap level players. When I played in HS there were 2 or 3 guys on the team who had Silver Scot's and played them extremely well. I never owned a set personally, but hitting theirs I could tell that they were a more than adequate set of irons.
  14. I'd like to hear about your distances too, I don't think I've personally ever seen anyone use both a 48* and 52* between PW & SW lofts...
  15. Nice! I got 3 CG-12's at the beginning of this season (52, 56, 60) and I love them. The only downfall I came across was hitting full shots from the fairway the zip grooves had so much bite that I was tearing up the covers on my Pro-V1x's... After 3 or 4 full shots struck right I couldn't really even use the ball anymore! I switched to Bridgestone Tour B330's which give me the same amount of action but seem to hold up better on my wedges. Dunno if you'll see the same thing, but thought I'd give my 2cents at least. Great wedges though, I still remember the first time I hit one and spun it back 10-15 ft, it feels pretty sweet.
  16. Haha, nice! Reminds me of my round yesterday: Knocked it onto a par 5 in two w/ driver, 4 iron and had about 25 ft for eagle. 3-putted for par after an aggressive 1st, left the green VERY unhappy... Next hole par 3 205yds hit a 5 iron to about 35 ft and drained it! Golf karma can be some of the best (and the worst) kind ever! Nice work again w/ the chip-ins, those are always very fun
  17. 76 on the university course, Par 70, back tees (but still not a very long course). Played well tee-to-green, had 3 3-putts and finished bogey-bogey... I'll take it though!
  18. Just thought i'd say a quick hello as the topic suggested! I'm Matt, 24 yrs old in MO. Been playing golf since age 7, played in high school, and have just been able to pick the game up again the past 2 years since college ended. I won't bother going too deep, maybe other posts will explain a little more. If you're ever in Mid-Missouri and need a 4th (or 2nd or 3rd, whatever!) I'm always down for a round!

    So close

I almost always felt my skill is better than my scores/results... I think we'd be lying if we said we could play a round w/o wishing for at least 1 or 2 shots back! I have consistently broken 80 for the past 2-3 years now, and still wish I could be a bit more consistent. I'd agree with you that you could shoot under 90, and do so simply by continuing to avoid those blow-up holes! For me, I learned to take my medicine and not try to hit "miracle" shots when you find yourself in trouble, and just salvage what you can. Then, short game short game short game I'd say. You can do it!
  20. Not my shot, but my grandfather (83) recorded his first hole-in-one this week on #8 on Okatie Creek in Bluffton, SC. It also happens to be the EXACT same hole that I got my first (and only so far...) hole-in-one 10 yrs ago! I thought that was pretty cool. We've both got some catching up to do, as my twin brother has 3, and my dad has two.
  21. I'd have to agree with the eBay route. When I was on the market for new wedges I got a set (52/56/60) of Cleveland CG-12's for less than $150 (all 3!) brand new, still in plastic. I actually passed the info on to a friend of mine who ended up getting the exact same wedges. Heads and grips still in plastic, as brand new as they could be. I know some people may be against eBay, but I have bought almost all of my clubs there and have saved tons of money on great equipment.
