Nickent Golf- 4DX Evolver Driver
erock9174 replied to Kiwi Hacker's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I switched from an r9 to this driver a couple months ago. As long as my driver swing is ok that day this club plays very nice. I currently have the 12.5* with UST V2 ProForce senior flex shaft (swing speed 82mph). With my slower swing I prefer this driver over the r9 10.5* reg flex Aldila Re-Ax (hit all low liners with the r9). Just watch because they make different versions so read the fine print when buying online: 4dx (Glued shaft) 4dx Evolver (can swap out shafts as long as you have a Nickent evolver hossel; not adjustable) - this is the version I have. 4dx Evolver CYG (adjustable hossel) I think the club looks really nice; the green finish is nice. Headcover is sharp too. If you want to convert the Evolver to the CYG you can buy the adjustable hossel on ebay for about $25-30 Probably one of the best bargains out there right now as far as an adjustable driver goes. -
Looking at purchasing a new FT-IQ driver with the recent decrease in prices on them. Granted a couple years old, but I really like the square head drivers. I have a question regarding available shafts. My driver swing speed is roughly 81-84 mph. I had an r9 10.5* with reg flex stock Aldila Re-Ax shaft and could never seem to load the club. All low liners. After reading up on Aldila's site it says their regular shafts require 90mph+ swings which I don't have. So then I tried a Nickent 4dx 12.5* with UST V2 Prolaunch HL senior flex. I really prefer the senior flex shaft. With that in mind the FT-IQ comes with your choice of either the Fujikura ZCOM, Aldila Voodoo 60 or the Mitsubishi Rayon Fubuki (all in senior flex). I am having trouble, being these are older shafts, finding good information on them. Which one would be better for a slower tempo swing and to get the ball flight higher? Also were any of these shafts more high end than any of the others (i.e. did one sell for $50 vs $100, etc.) Also with my slower swing would the 11* or 13* be the better option for me? With the Nickent I tend to carry the ball maybe 220 at best, a little longer with roll on a dry day. Thanks for any help provided.

I love my Ping G15 Hybrids!!!!!
erock9174 replied to Topper's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Let me know if you figure it out. On the simulator at the shop I started making much better contact with mine after placing the ball towards the toe at address. But at the range today it was not working. Out of about 20 shots I only hit 2 or 3 clean. Have some work to do with it. Normally I grip down on my longer clubs to where with the hybrid I wasn't. So that will be my next adjustment (gripping down about 0.5 - 1") -

Just to provide a follow-up. Ended up pulling the trigger on a K15 5w (19*) last week. Stock length with Soft Regular shaft. It carries about 185-190 with 200 on rollout on the monitor and course. Very solid club off the tee and fairway. For the first time I am confident using a FW. The Ping G15 17* (2 deg flat and 1/2" shorter) hybrid came in today and on the monitor I was seeing 175 carry with about 190-200 on rollout. Granted both clubs are roughly the same yardage, but I plan to use the hybrid for punch outs and rough situations and the 5w off the tee as needed for controlled shots and fairway. The K15 3wood was too erratic for me and it was only about 10 yards longer than the 5w was. I opted for consistency. I am playing on some longer courses with many doglegs so both clubs should get a workout this week. Will post a review on how the hybrid plays. -
May 2011 Golf Digest Ball Review

Out of curiosity, what about your swing speed and/or driver loft made the Bridgestone work that much better? Not trying to be smart or anything just curious? Is one designed to work with a faster or slower swing speed? On knetgolf.com they have both of them listed in their low compression balls category which should work with a slower swing. The big difference I see from the GD review, is that on 1/2 wedge shots the B330RX launches much lower with more spin, to where the e6 launches higher with less spin. Off the tee I thought all balls went relatively the same distance (within 5-7yds) but side spin was the big factor (i.e. tour balls will spin more and could cause more hooks/slices to where a distance ball would have less side spin and go straighter). -
What Are Some Great Fitness Videos You Have Seen?
erock9174 replied to WPLga's topic in Fitness and Exercise
Anything from the Beachbody.com team is top notch. I started P90X which is one of their more popular and advanced series back in April. I stuck with it for 5 weeks but life (baby, work, etc) took over. In that time I lost about 15 pounds, and got leaner. Their diet program works. I am still sticking to that right now and losing weight even without workouts. Downside is their program is 6 days a week for approx 60-90 minutes a day. I prefer the 30-45 minute per day workout so I think I am going to backtrack and order their Power 90 series which is a pre-requisite to P90X -

Tried the Srixon TriSpeed Tour (yellow version) the past 2 weeks. Seems to fly just as straight as the e6's I was playing but does seem to check up on the greens for me a little more. I dont generate much spin so I will take what I can get. Love the yellow color too. I thought I would get rediculed this season for playing yellow balls, but to be honest I have more people asking me "what brand are those?" and commenting how well they can see my ball after a tee shot lands. They seemed surprised when I tell them, they are Srixon and Bridgestone balls. They probably were thinking I am playing something I stole from a putt putt course. -
Does anyone use a 5 wood anymore?
erock9174 replied to TidePride50's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I had written off fairway woods but decided to give it one last shot and just added a Ping K15 5w to the bag today. I used it off the tee on 4 holes with some good success about (195-200) when I caught it plush (I only drive the ball about 230 on a good hit). I also have a G15 17* hybrid on order. I am curious to see how this plays on the course compared to the 5w. I know distance should be about the same with both clubs according to Ping, but I just wanted the option depending on the lie I have. 3 woods do me no good. Too erratic. -
such thing as a forgiving 3 wood?
erock9174 replied to ballemore1029's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I'd been looking around to add a FW to the bag. I've tried virtually everything on the racks at Golf Galaxy in the last 3 weeks and nothing felt as confident for me as the Ping K15 series. Just kept going back to that club. I opted for the 5w over the 3w because on the monitor the dispersion was less, had less mishits and yardage was only about 5-10 yds less on average than the 3w. I wanted the consistency so I pulled the trigger on a used 5w. What I like about it is the 5w head is only 7cc's less than the 3w. So it makes for a great club to tee off with on narrow holes. Feel very confident over the ball with the large head. I played a round with it for the first time today. Yardage was about 195-200 when I caught it clean. And it provided me that nice safe shot off the tee. As far as hitting it out of the fairway, I had some side hill lies and couldn't make a good assessment. I was hitting it clean but either pushing or pulling it trying to compensate for the lies. Wish they made a 4w in it like the G series, but oh well, probably still would have opted for the 5 wood anyway. Nice FW wood. -
A replacement bag, really? What's next, expecting Nike to pay you cash for the time value of money lost that it took you to call them, deal with Dick's etc. Warranty expired, no extended warranty purchased. It's the gamble we all take by not buying an extended warranty. If my 58" samsung plasma breaks after a year, it's on me, because I didn't buck up the $300 bones for the extended warranty. I know this, its the gamble I am willing to take. It just stinks when you get the lemon of the assembly line.

Help with Ping club choice and fitting
erock9174 replied to jeffvb9's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Before you buy anything I would go to a box store like Golf Galaxy and take in one of your old irons (say a 7i) and tell them you want the lie adjusted due to your height but don't know to what angle it needs to be. It might cost a small fee but they will have you hit a lie board and determine if your clubs need to be flattened or upright. If you are 6'5" most likely the irons will need to be adjusted upright. Ask them what adjustment is needed and then buy your new set accordingly. Not sure where you are buying used clubs at, but if you buy used at Golf Galaxy, they will adjust the lies for half the price of labor making it about $1.50 a club (normal price is $2.99 per club). -
My buddy tipped me off to this site last night; I agree, should be perfect. Whats cool is there is no download, you basically email them (its in beta form still) and they send you a link and everything is hosted on their website. You put in each players email and then submit then and the site sends each person an email with a link to the tournament page. One the tournament page, there are 2 tabls, One to input your score by hole and then the leaderboard which accumulates everybody. Also it works with all phones which is the problem with most aps (either iphone or droid based and not both). I am playing Saturday so we setup a mock tournament and plan to track our round. I will post back with a review of how it worked.

Thanks for the reply. I will probably wait to see and get mine on a course and check yardages before buying anything else. I've already bought all new irons, a hybrid, 2 drivers, a 3 w and now this Ping Hybrid, since January. Thankfully the golf budget has been kind to me this season. -
Quote: Basic LAMP server on a home internet connection would be plenty to run it too. now you are speaking Japanese, lol 2 of my buddies work in IT, I might have to see if they can help me out.

I'm striking out with the Golf Aps online. Everything I see is either a GPS or just a Score Tracker where you can email the card after a round. I want something where multiple teams could enter on one card and be able to access it real-time. We thought about setting up a webpage. Maybe even buying a cheap cloud service, but for one outing a year I hate to pay alot of money for a site. I thought there had to be a free ap out there that would handle this. I think there are some for the iphone but most of our players including myself have Android based phones. So we need an ap compatible with both.

Topper Is your 4i a 24* club? If so, what kind of distances do you get out of your 17*, 20* and 4i? Once I put the 17* in play I am wondering if I will have too much gap in between it and my 4i which is a 22* club. My 4i on a good day probably carries about 180. I am hoping the 17* gets me 200ish. To be honest I don't think I need a 190 yd club. But I would have room in the bag for one more club, being I just removed my 3w and 19* 3 hybrid. -
I golfed in an outing last week that featured carts with GPS that had a live leaderboard. Basically each group entered their score and it kept track of everybody. Very nice to know where you stack up with the field...if you are behind, ahead or tied, etc. This got me to thinking. I run a small outing (about 12-20 guys) each year and the only way we know each other's scores is to text message them during the round. Pretty much everybody has a data phone of some sort and I thought, it would be cool if there was an ap or some program where everybody could enter their score each hole and it would post to a leaderboard. Does anybody know if there is anything out there like this? The only thing I could think of was to create an Excel sheet with the group names, but that would require everybody to constantly open up the spreadsheet on their phone, update it and keep emailing it out to everybody which would be a pain. Or to maybe post the spreadsheet to a website for updating. This way there would be only 1 version out there of it. Any help is appreciated.

I ordered a G15 17 deg hybrid last week and hoping it helps my long game out. I hit my 4i fairly well however my Burner 3 hybrid was hit and miss. When I catch it great its a 200 yard laser beam, but those shots are very few and far between. Since I hit my 4i pretty well I wanted something that resembled more of an iron and gave me the distance between my 4i and driver. The G15 17 deg. seemed to fit the bill. I had all intentions of walking into Golf Galaxy and buying a 4 wood, but opted for this. Shots just felt much more crisp. I will give up a little yardage for a cleaner hit. We shall see. Hopefully it comes in soon. I had them order from Ping a 1/2" shorter and flattened 2 degrees. Also went with an undersized red grip. -
Yet another GigaGolf question...
erock9174 replied to LostSquirrel's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I'd like to see some pics too close up of the real clubs. Thinking of ordering a TRX V11 3 iron. I have the worst time hitting hybrids. I feel 80% confident with my 4i and about 40% with my 3 hybrid. Figure for the $20-30 per club that giga charges it might be worth the risk to see if i can hit a 3i. -
Callaway's Warbird clubs?? Anyone seen these?
erock9174 replied to glock35ipsc's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I can't blame Cleveland if they did manufacture these and end up selling them exclusively at Dicks. Might as well try and steal some of the $200-300 box set club market from the Hogan/Slazenger/Maxfli/Acuity lines that Dick's puts out. Huh, I bought my TM Burner Plus at Golf Galaxy. The Burner Plus irons were sold by everybody. http://www.golfgalaxy.com/TaylorMade-Mens-Burner-Plus-Irons/TaylorMadeBurnerPlusMensIronSet/Product -
I use the Izzo Swami. Pro's Very inexpensive (Unit is $89) and annual Subscription is $9.99 Once you load your 10 courses, if you don't need other courses, you do not have to re-up your subscription after a year and the unit still works. Basic (some would consider this a con, but all I wanted was something to give me yardage) Yardage to front/center/back of green. Very easy to toggle between Excellent battery life. I have gone 3 rounds and the battery still shows full. After researching many units, Izzo seemed to have the most courses in their library. I wanted the Callaway unit but many of the courses I needed were not on there. Requests were made months ago and the courses were still not mapped. Website (loading courses) is easy. You search the course you need. If available, click on it and hit sync. Comes with belt clip Con's Only a 10 course memory Can't mark shots No yardage to layup feature No overhead map of hole Wish the wall charger was included and not an accessory Overall Summary I got this unit free, but would have gladly paid money for it. I attached it to my golf bag using velcro. So nice to get out of the cart, look at the unit, see your yardage, pick a club and rip it. If you don't want to spend alot of cash, want an easy to use unit, and don't need all the frills of a high end unit by all means this is the one you want.

Out of curiosity, what bounce is your LW? I play a 54.12 out of the sand and use my 60.4 for chipping and full shots. I agree though with you, the high bounce club is very tricky to play off tight lies. I tend to only use my 54.12 out of the sand. Every blue moon I will attempt a full shot, but I'd rather just take a little off my 50 GW and usually get better results. I guess what I am getting at is, if your LW has less bounce, work with it in the yard until you get real comfortable with it. When I bought my 60 last year I worked with it at home for about a month before I would take it to the course. Now it's my go to club around the greens. try playing it back in your stance and try keeping your weight forward otherwise you will start to blade and chunk shots with it.

Update as of 5/18 down to 143.5 lbs. So far down 12.5 pounds in 30 days. My original goal was 142 but I think I have a new goal of 130 with more fat loss and some muscle gains.
-
I haven't tried Insanity but currently 30 days in using P90x. I started at 156 pounds and currently down to 143. Still trying to shed about 10-12 lbs then I figure if I start building muscle I will look halfway decent. Great workout and diet plan though. finally feel like I am eating right. I use their 1400 calorie per day "fat shredder" diet.

GPS vs Laser Rangefinder
erock9174 replied to greenail's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
I do not own a Rangefinder but I've golfed with a buddy who has one. I found that for me the rangefinder slowed my play down. Maybe it was just me but it took me forever to hone in on targets to get the reading. Not to mention getting the thing out of the protective pouch on every shot (it's too big to put into a pocket or hang on a belt loop for my taste). I do own an Izzo Swami GPS. I got it for free but would gladly pay the $89 + $9.99 subscription. I have it mounted to my bag via velcro. Nothing's better than pulling up to your ball, getting out of the cart, looking at the gps on my bag, knowing you need a 6i, pull your 6i and hit it. With the rangefinder I would need to get it out of the cupholder on the cart, take it out of the pouch, shoot it, put it back in the pouch, put it back in the cart cup holder, grab my 6 iron and hit. Over the course of 18 holes, that pick up and put down time adds up. Just something to consider.
