Golf is off limits as it relates to my christmas wishlist. The last thing I need is to be given something I don't need or want or even worse I ask for it, find out I hate it and not use it. Yikes! Besides my inlaws are not golfers and everything golf related thing they have attempted to get for me was not very usefull. I would suggest a golf gift certificate. Christmas is more about giving than receiving any way. O hwait one golf related item no one could screw up, golf movies, Bobby Jones, Tin Cup, Caddy Shack, the greatest Game, etc.

Working on compressing the ball & Hitting FAT.......
ND Fan replied to pattitude's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
I am really not being a smart a$$ I just don't understand what you mean by compressing the ball. In my mind compressing the ball is not something you have any control over, once the club makes contact the ball will be compressed regardless of your swing mechanics. Just curious. -
Help rotating hands during downswing!!
ND Fan replied to mazza78's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
is your grip neutral? or weak? A stronger grip will likely yeild the results you're looking for. -
I would advise any one to find two wedges they like and learn how to use them. Having four wedges in the bag creates too much indecision. Yes Mickelson carries four wedges, but he's also the pre-eminent authority on the short game of players today. You're not him and neither am I. I have always carried just one until recently the past two years I carry a 54 and a 58, both with enough bounce that I am confortable with them and I only use the 58 out of the sand or for extreme situations. having only one go to wedge for most of my pitching around the greens has given me great confidence in how to use that wedge and that confidence is the most important element to me.

simple sour grapes on Allenby's part. nothing more nothing less. AK should be aware that if he's in the position in the future to be a captains pick his behavior may cause him to be passed over. The kid has skills but if he wants respect in a team event he should tow the line to some degree.

Tilt-forward tees. Legit?
ND Fan replied to Fat Slice's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
Well... it is conforming... but... Longer and straighter? I have to chuckle a bit when i hear that from a legal tee manufacturer. From a physics standpoint it does stand to reason that a tee could offer some difference in ball flight but I would calculate that difference somewhere around 0.0001 % So please don't fooled into thinking this miracle tee is going to do anything but give you possibly a 1 or 2 inch advantage in length or line. The nice thing is plastic tees will generally hold up better. JMO -
I think avaerage pro ball speed has to be around 175 and up, 190 is sick but some long drive guys have broke the 200 barrier.

Your favorite -- or least favorite -- golf clichés
ND Fan replied to Q.Q.Quillume's topic in Golf Talk
^^^^^ Agreed... My favorite was hearing a guy after missing yet another 10 footer, he said " dammit *name* your wedge keeps writing checks your putter can't cash!" -
I am really pleased that no one is espousing the warrants of the frictionless aspect of these tees. They do hold up better and that's great, but the marketing will tell you you'll gain yardage because of less friction It would be like throwing an aluminum can at a freight train in an effort to slow it down.

I buy whatever is on sale and matches my game. I have never paid more than $200 for a set of irons. They all work about the same, regardless of whatt he advertiser tell you. The important thing is to find a set that feels good and looks good to you with the proper shaft flex, thats about it. My current set is Wilson Pi5's and it's not too often I see them in anyone else's bag.

Working on compressing the ball & Hitting FAT.......
ND Fan replied to pattitude's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
WTH Compressing the ball? Please explain this... Actually I think you'll find a good short game will get just about any able bodied person into the 70's -
I would expect a response like that from some egotistical scratch golfer but not from some middle of the road 4 handicap.

most of the time. My favortite game is everybody throw in 20 and we 'll play 6-6-6 and skins. Nobody gets hurts and if you play well you make some nice coin.

I think I have finally found a golf forum that has enough post to keep me engaged. I tried others but 5 or 6 post per day wasn't enough to keep my interest. I have played the game for 30 years and love it. It's a big part of my life, it doesn't define me but I can't see ever quitting. I have played in just about every imaginable event for amateurs and although I don't play a ton of competitive golf anymore I still enjoy the pressure when something comes along. My sister played on tour for 10 years and and I caddied for her in about 30 events. Those years provided me with some priceless memories and some wonderful friendships. I love this game and am glad I found a spot where I can share my mostly useless knowledge while reading others. I never take myself too seriously so I sincerely hope none of you will either. I appreciate a lighthearted approach. Life is too short to quibble about golf. Everybody has an opinion and of course most of them are wrong, mine included. No information works for all. But at the same time think what a boring place we would be living in if we all thought and said the same things. Good to be here.

I average 30 best practice for me is to get a putt about 7-8 footer and roll em til I feel like i can't miss. Sometimes it takes five minutes sometimes it take 20 but I wait till I get that feeling of knowing it's going in before i take the putter back. Puts me in a good frame of mind prior to a round. The best putting practice I have found is putt for money, buck a hole or something, carry overs if you're so inclined and aces double is nice too. This adds pressure to practice and thats something that's hard to replace on the practice green.

Depends on the course. Some of my most memoprable rounds were on courses i had never seen before. Something to be said about not knowing where the trouble is. Any way It helps me concentrate on exactly where I want the ball to go and never a thought about where I don't want to be. I guess I am a mental midget but I find it helps me on some courses.
-
one more thing... the slowest players i know are good players... they just aren't nearly as good as they think they are.

I have been a scratch golfer for more than 20 years. The only thing I judge about other golfers is their ability to respect the course and their fellow golfers and the game. Respect for all three only requires some courtesy and understanding basic etiquette. I play routinely with guys that can shoot lights out and guys that can't break 90. I enjoy it all. Life is too short. If you can play a round in about 4 1/2 hours have a good time. If it takes you 5 1/2 hours well then yes, you might be a loser, get the Hell outta my way! ( just kidding) Golf is a gentlemans game despite what some may make of it and a gentleman undertands some are better and some are not. He also understands that while learning the game some may not know everything about the game and that it's not ok to take 5 minutes to line a up 30 footer and you shouldn't get your drinks from the cart girl wile standing in front of a green you just finished. Play well has a different meaning for everyone. From my perspective playing well simply means you played without shouting throwing clubs or otherwise pissing someone off. But I have seen players play well and not break 100. Enjoy the game, anyone who chooses to attempt to intimidate you or berate you simply because it requires you more strokes than they to complete a round is an idot and hardly worthy of their self described greatness. I probably used to be a golf snob when i was much younger but as I grow older and hopefully a bit wiser I find I enjoy playing with all skill levels as long as they keep a reasonable pace and a smile on their face.

I know a lot of good players still using Gi irons. Ego has never put a ball into the hole. Play with whatever you play best with.
-
Well at least I have another douchebag to root against. Guliana's kid fits the bill nicely.
-
It's a kids tournament! leave em alone. If they are playing on a pace of 4 1/2 hours, no problem. If not then the tournament official needs to be contacted and he needs to define who the slow player is and penalize him/her. The pro could do this as well but, in my mind not without an official of the event's knowledge.
