Yep, you are correct. As soon as I posted the question, they used the term again and mentioned cleaning the ball and placing on turf. thx.

I just heard Kelly Tilghman on TGC coverage of Deutsche Bank say that players are playing ball in hand in anticipation of bad weather. What does "ball in hand" mean?

I am looking to get a high quality practice mat for my home. I have checked out Real Feel mats and they appear to be very good. Anyone have experience with these mats or other high quality mats?

I went to Wyndham Championship in Greensboro today to watch my first PGA event. Here are my impressions: 1) these guys hit the crap out of the ball - i can't believe how far they hit it 2) they swing so easy - other than driver , fw metals, they swing effortlessly. i was amazed how easy they swing 3) the smallest guy can hit the ball as far as any of them. Richard Johnson must weigh no more than 165, and hit the ball as long as anyone. 4) Glover and Snedeker barely take any time over the ball once they address it. wow, are they quick 5) I learned more watching these guys on the practice range than on the course 6) it looked awfully painful for that girl to walk a course in 5 inch heels (i don't care how awesome she looked in them) 7) can't wait for my next event

I asked myself this morning if I could place the ball at any distance from the flag, what would it be. I was actually mad at myself that I didn't have this number on the tip of my tongue. I actually didn't know, and had to think about it. On the course I am generally pleased if I am between 80 and 155, but shouldn't there be that one yardage that is my go to yardage? I suppose I will answer my post with my favorite yardage being 100 yards. I am very comfortable with my 56* from 100 yards, and am disappointed if I don't get within 10 - 12 feet. What's yours?

I am planning on heading to Greensboro for the Wyndham on Sunday and wanted to know roughly what the first tee time would be (assuming no weather issues). I assume they want the leaders to finish around 6pm ET. I am guessing 10am for the first group and around 2pm for the leaders.

Titleist Vokey Spin or Cleveland CG15?
ronbo25 replied to clonewars222's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Cleveland is selling both conforming and non-conforming CG-15s. The non-conforming have "Tour Zip Grooves", while the conforming have "Zip Grooves". There is an identifying logo on the back of the wedges that indicate which wedge it is. I would get the non-conforming, since you can use these for another 14 years (unless you are in tournaments requiring confirming grooves). If i knew how to post pictures here, i would show you both of the wedges. I have been contemplating the Vokey vs CG decision for a while. For the past year, I have been playing CG14s (52,56,60). Just replaced my 52* with a Vokey 50* to see how that works for me. With the new groove rule in effect for manufacturers starting Jan 1, 2011, I wanted to make sure I was set for the next few years. After hours and hours of online research, I believe that you ask 100 people which wedge they prefer, you will get a pretty even split, perhaps 60/40 in favor of Vokey (probably due to name brand loyalty). Here are my thoughts: CG15: * great feeling wedge, very solid (like my 14s) * not crazy about the shape * those extra milled grooves will start to disappear very quickly (based on what I see with guys I play with) * If I were to purchase Cleveland, I would get 14s, not 15s (for the shape and groove issue I mentioned) Vokey * great looking wedge * after 10 rounds with my 50*, there is NO visible wearing of grooves (face looks exactly like it did brand new) * grooves do tend to beat up balls more than Clevelands * more feel than Cleveland, but doesn't feel quite as solid at contact I currently am playing a Vokey 50*, and CG14 (56,60) and will probably stay with this setup through the end of the year and then decide if I want to stock up on a couple more non-conforming. BUT, here is the best advice I can give you. Vokeys and Clevelands do feel different. Find a range or club that will allow you to demo both and see what suits your eye and your swing. All you need is 10 swings with each and you will know which you like better. Buy what works for you, not what works for us. -
I like Natalie Gulbis - not sure how I picked her (I will think about it some more). I am glad she is doing well at the US Open. She should get plenty of tv time in the final round. I do like Phil. I respect his game, his interviews, and how he acknowledges the fans. To me - a classy guy. I must admit, I don't have many current favorites. I find myself rooting for a good story (i.e. Tom Watson at British Open, Goydos' 59 and Stricker 60 within hours of each other, Dustin Johnson going for another win at Pebble) or sudden death on Sundays.

Can someone please explain to me why anyone in Cleveland has a beef with Lebron? I don't see how he owes Cleveland anything. He is a free agent and took the best opportunity to win it all. If you mad because "Lebron quit", then be mad at him for that and be happy he is gone. Manny quit on the Sox, and I couldn't be happier he left town. The part I resent in this whole ordeal is the 1 hour "Decision" show and the LIES. True, proceeds went to charity, but that was over the top. Lebron - please don't tell me you woke up on Thursday morning and at that time decided to go to Miami. You called your mom to tell her. PLEASE - you have had this planned for a long, long time, probably years. You decided on Thursday? I don't think so.

I have been playing my best golf ever and I went out and bruised my ribs playing in a softball tournament this past week. I tried swinging the club, but the pain is unbearable. I fear if I try to play through it, I will just set myself back even more. Tried playing today and almost collapsed in pain on the 2nd hole. Bruised ribs can take 3 - 4 weeks to heal, or longer. I am dedicating the next several weeks to work on my putting and VERY short game. Trying to make the best of it and come back a better putter. Ugh!!!

I play the x-22 tours, and positively love them. the non tour are just to bulky for me and have that offset. the tours are still cavity back and are very forgiving. As a single digit handicapper, i would encourage you to demo the tours.

Not go off topic, but.... I am playing TM Penta. I think it is right in between the V1 and V1x. Great distance / great control.

Golf Sunglasses Help.....

+1 for Peak Vision. Didn't know much about them until recently. Bought them, love them, use them all the time on the course. -
I tried a ton of irons last year and decided to go with the Callaway x-22 tour. Love everything about this club. If you gave me the choice to switch to any other iron, I don't think you could convince me to give them up. Before hitting any iron, I need to be comfortable with the setup. For me, the x-18, 20, 22 (non tour), Diablo, as well as about 50% of all irons are to thick looking on setup. I didn't care for the offset of the Ping G15s. One club that has caught my eye is the new Adams CB2. They look sweet. Good luck.

I have never responded to this thread but need to post my lifetime low score. I shot a 73 today, 3 over for my home course. Hit most fairways, did some scrambling, made a few putts that I normally don't, and there you go. Lipped 3 putts too. Tomorrow morning we have our annual Red, White, and Blue tournament. Let's hope I saved some good shots for that.

Couple Questions-balls and wedges
ronbo25 replied to clubhousehero's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
To the OP, what is the loft on your PW? You need to decide if you want 2 or 3 wedges to follow your PW. If you go with 2, I say go 53/58. If you go with 3, I say go 52/56/60. I prefer Cleveland wedges over the Vokeys. To me, they just seem more solid. I also have been playing the TM Penta quite a bit and really love the ability to spin it. -
Thinking of New 21*Hybrid, Any Suggestions?
ronbo25 replied to scottg's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Try hitting the Adams A7 hybrid. Of course you will need to decide on the 19* or 22*. I started with the 19* and just added the 22* in place of my 4 iron. -
I just bagged a new driver and before doing so, I hit just about everything out there. All new clubs pretty much maxed out to allowable specs, so you should get good performance from either. I settled on the G15 and have not looked back. The adjustment capability of the R9 was appealing, but as my swing coach told me, " don't adjust the club to offset faults in your swing, work hard to fix your swing". I got on a launch monitor many, many times and ended up with the G15. I hit it the furthest with the tightest dispersion. I actually had a tougher time picking out a loft and shaft, than I did picking the brand / model. Give me a gift certificate for any driver, any price - it would by the G15. See what suits your eye at setup and what works with your swing. Good luck.

Kind of surprised no one mentioned Ryann. She definitely needs to stick around for a while. http://golf-babes.blogspot.com/searc...%20O'Toole

I would go with the 3H. Your 3W is probably a 15* and the 3H will probably be around 19*. The loft difference and the difference in size of head should give you different distances with each. I currently bag a 4W (17.5*) and 3H (19*) and I have about 25 yards difference in these clubs.

I have only been living in NC for 2 years, but aren't we North Carolinians ?
-
I say replace the 4 iron with a 4 hybrid. I just did that because I hit my 3H so much more consistently than my 4 iron, and figured the 4H would be a nice swap. Then you can work on dialing down the 4 hybrid as necessary. I like to choke down about 1/2 inch on my long clubs to take off a few yards. Choking down a bit gives you the same loft, but shortens the club, which will shave off a few yards. I hate removing wedges to fix gaps at the longer distances. The short game is where you really can score. Keep your wedges in the bag.

I have always been a Cleveland wedge guy. I currently bag CG14s (52,56,60). My PW is 46* and thus I have a 6* gap between PW and 52*. I have been struggling for a month as to what to do. Finally, decided to stick with the CGs and had the 52* bent to 51*. Thought I was all set....until I came across a sweet coupon that basically would get me either a CG15 or Vokey for under $100. I stared at my options for an hour and decided to buy the Vokey 54.11, figuring if I liked it, I would consider going changing me set to 50*,54*, and either 58*or 60*. And I always wanted to try a BV. Note I hit my wedges as follows: 46* - 135 52* - 115 56* - 98 60* - 78 My first chance to hit the new 54* Vokey came early, faced with 106 to pin. I knocked it stiff and immediately fell in love with it. Had several opportunities throughout the round of around 104 - 108 and hit all but 1 within 12 feet of the flag. I really liked the feel of this club and felt very confident with having a 105 yard go to club. Then..... At some point during the round I noticed my Pro V1x was getting beaten up pretty good. I was bummed. I have never destroyed a ball with my wedges and my now I was experiencing what I have heard about Vokeys - they beat up balls pretty good. I can't justify going through several balls per round to bag the Vokey. But love the 54* distance. I am considering turning in the Vokey for either a 54* CG14 or CG15. Thoughts? Do the Vokey's continue to tear up balls after a while? What to do????

Master Scotty Cameron Putters: Worth It or Not? Thread
ronbo25 replied to JEWMAH9701's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Yep, was worth every darn penny. I made the switch as well from Ping Anser and as of right now, will never get rid of my Scotty. I love the feel, setup, and consistency I get with my SC. I have definitely cut strokes off my my game. How many, hard to tell, probably 2 -3 strokes per round. I think the important thing for me right now is the SC has instilled confidence in my putting game. I stand over every putt thinking I am going to make it. Of course, I don't my every putt, but that is the feeling I have, and that is something I never felt before with any other putter.
