  2. Thanks, guys. Seems to be working now. I'm sure it was operator error more than anything. Love the macs but after years of pc's they take a little getting used to. Gonna look into the different browsers though.
  3. I recently switched to Apple products after years of pc's. For some reason I'm unable to change my roster in the Yahoo golf league on my iPhone, iPad, or my wife's iMac. The X's to delete a player don't show up, nor is the button to only show entered golfers. It' really confusing. I've looked all over for a solution. I know there are some Mac users here. Has anyone run into this problem? Is it Safari? Am I missing a setting somewhere? I emailed Yahoo but no answer so far.
  4. I've been giving this a lot of thought recently (no pun intended). I have a putting routine where I pick my line and make practice swings while looking at the hole "programming" the distance into my subconscious. Yes it sounds stupid, but the intention is to just hit the ball and not think. I stare at the ball to "occupy" my brain (since I can't turn it off completely) and swing. It works for me. I don't make them all by any means but I lag putt really well and rarely three putt. If I'm able to do something similar on a full swing I play better. Just can't seem to do it for more than a few holes until my brain gets in the way again. So to echo what previous posters have said, "Don't think."

    I haven't had a problem walking on. Maybe had to wait a few minutes but nothing major. But........I didn't get the membership until October and play was way down. I'm wondering myself what it will be like during the summer. Staff is great. I can't say enough about them. The owner is always around too and very approachable if you have a problem. I'd never joined a "higher end" golf club until last fall. I've had passes at the munies for various years before, and honestly, the difference is unbelievable. I feel spoiled.

    I took advantage of this deal last fall. It really is a no-brainer incredible deal. The OP is right, it is the nicest course in the area (haven't played either of the country clubs) and the toughest (rating is 72 from the blues and 74 from the tips IIRC). Playing this course I know will make me a better golfer. Either that or I'll get so frustrated I'll quit (yeah like that'll happen). I'd like to get in the league too, but right now I work evenings so that probably won't be possible. I've probably already used around $600 worth of that $999 between the course, range, and indoor facility (which BTW is not only just for putting practice. You can hit full swings and chip also). I looked at the city course pass and Lincoln Greens. Either of those was going to cost me at least $600/year as I'm outside the city limits, and that didn't include the range or indoor facility. I personally hate taking a cart and only do this for outings or when I play with one of my lazy friends -) so that wasn't a consideration for me. You'll have to decide that. The course is a hike, can't BS you on that (a lot of distance between some of the holes) but you get used to it. If you plan to play a reasonable amount of golf over the next two years in this area, I can't see how you wouldn't do this. If you do, then maybe we can get together for a round.
  7. I wouldn't say I root against him, but I'm finding it difficult to get on the Rickie Fowler bandwagon. Those outfits make him look like an LPGA golfer circa 1975.
  8. I just re-joined the USGA for $10 and got one. So that's an option.
  9. 1. Establish an official handicap. The one in my profile is a guess. Probably pretty close to accurate, but not official. 2. Cut said handicap in half by the end of the year. 3. Play in more local am tournaments. 4. Finish in the top 50% of a tournament. I'm usually near the bottom. If I meet this goal, it changes to top 25%. 5. Make the cut in the city tournament. This is really my number 1 goal (my major). An extremely poor showing in this tourney in 2009 set me on my re-dedication to the game. I set the goal of making the cut in two years. Usually it's around 150 for the two rounds and if I can meet the previous goals, this should be possible.
  10. I got Swing Reader for 99 cents. You can import vids into it, pick you start and stop frames, tempo them, draw lines and circles, and slow down the playback. Amazing how much it helped ( and how bad my "I think I have a good golf swing" really was). Note: they just updated the app and I haven't used it since then. Only difference I noticed right off was you record through the app now instead of importing from camera roll. I'm planning to hit the indoor range today and get some video so after that I might have a better idea of the updates.
  11. I would love to have TGC but to get it I would have to go up two tiers in my cable service and that's not going to happen. I would be stuck with a boatload of channels I won't watch and certainly am not willing to pay for. I'd like to see a NFL Sunday Ticket kind of pay per view PGA package. Not sure if that's even possible with the networks contracting to broadcast them and all, but the NFL and MLB manage it.
  12. 44 and carry. I have a push cart but oddly enough it hurts my back when I use it so it's sitting in the garage. With a dual strap bag I hardly even notice the weight, even on those stinking hot midwestern summer days.
  13. I got a piece of advice several years ago which really helped. If you allow yourself one extra shot to the green and two putt them all then you'll bogey every hole. It really helped with my mindset. I didn't feel the pressure of having to hit a great shot because I had an extra if I needed it. Then you work on eliminating one of the shots here and there and drop a putt or hit a GIR. Drop 4 putts/GIR and you shoot 86 and so on.

I was at Dick's Sporting Goods yesterday and they had a deal where if you buy two dozen Bridgestone balls, you get a mail in coupon for a free $90 windshirt. They had the Tour B330 RX's on sale for $35 too. Been wanting a good windshirt but they're too pricey. Thought I'd pass on the info.
  15. As others have said, I think it depends on the course. I got a pass at a local muni course this year for $500 with a mentality of quantity over quality. I wanted to play a lot and I more than got my money's worth. The plan was to get a membership next spring at this club www.piperglen.com which I feel is by far the nicest in the area, though I haven't played any of the country clubs. They were running a special this fall where you get two years plus the rest of this year for $999 - plus another course, but it's 45 minutes away so I probably won't get there very often. Same price as the muni for two years. Plus, unlimited range and the indoor facility for this winter. Quite a deal. I was spending probably around $100/month this summer for the driving range alone. So if it's a course you like and can play for the life of the membership it'll save you money.

  17. I know how you feel. My home course has horrible bunkers. When you walk in them it crunches so much it sounds like you're walking on ice. And every green is protected by at least two of them. The simple answer is don't hit into them but we know how that goes. I've given up trying to play a standard bunker shot - which I've never been real good at, but I was getting better - and started playing chip shots. If the lip is low, I'll play almost a bump and run. I take that all the way up to a full flop shot if it has a deep lip. I don't expect any spin and play for them to run.
  18. Sorry, made that post right before I left for work. It was a bit vague. I went through a process. I had two related problems, hitting it fat and not getting over on my left side. The answers both clicked at the same time. I knew I was getting to my right side and making a full turn but I couldn't get back to my left at impact thus causing a flip through impact. I guess I maybe started turning my right knee in a bit which allowed me to feel the tension in my knee and quads. I also felt like I was springing onto my left side. The big thing though IMO was not using my arms. I started by concentrating on a lose grip and wrists which translated to loose arms. Like I said it really helped with the driver and I saw results immediately. With the irons I started focusing on my left shoulder back right shoulder through or left shoulder back left shoulder pull through. Either way I alwYa came OOT. I read the article that said to concentrate on a point 6in. above your belly button, soI did. When I swing I focus on turning that point back away from the target - arms,wrists, hands all just come along for the ride with no conscious effort by me to move them. Then just reverse that point to the left and through toward the target. I started off with a bucket of balls and just got the feel of turning without using my arms. To me this was the hardest part. Using my arms was so ingrained it was dificult to get past it. I made. Iwould take my stance then push my right palm forward and get into impact position. Then turn halfway back and fire through impact and stop. After I did this for a while I started turning halfway back then firing through to a full finish. This semed to really get it into my head. Like I said, the real test will be on the course. Just wish I could get out this weekend.
  19. I've been putting a lot of time into learning how to swing more from my core and less with my arms. I think I finally got it. I did have some success with the driver. Made a big difference in distance and a huge difference in consistency. I just couldn't get it with the irons. I widened my stance a touch which allowed me to really feel the tension in my right knee and quads. Getting over to the left side was a real problem. Now by loading up and feeling that tension I feel like I'm jumping to the left. I also read an article which said to concentrate on a point 6 in. above your belly button This really helped. Two range sessions does not a breakthrough make. The real test will be on the course and I can't play until Monday, but really looking forward to the next round.

  21. I don't get nervous - heart racing, sweaty palms, that kind of thing - but I definately choke. No other way to describe it I guess. Last tourney I played it was to the tune of 12 shots worse than any other round of the year. Everything falls apart, can't drive, putt, or hit an iron. As for what do I do to relax......well, I'm eagerly reading the thread hoping someone has suggestions, lol. I figure if I play in enough tourneys then eventually I will get used to it and won't choke. I've also been working diligently on a fundamental, repeatable swing so I don't have to think, just hit. We'll see how it works, I hav a tourney this weekend, weather permitting.
  22. I've had this problem for awhile as well. I always play so much better, with much better focus, when I'm by myself. I think I've finally figured out why. When I'm in a group I hurry my shots too much. I'm always worried about being that guy that takes forever to line up and hit the ball. I've asked a few people and they've told me I'm not any slower than anyone else so it's all in my head. Had this in mind when I played nine today. Got paired with another single. I forced myself to take my time and stick to my pre-shot routine. It worked, I had one of my best ball striking rounds in quite awhile.
  23. When I just can't seem to get my swing down, I try to imagine a car - a corvette maybe - at a stop sign, which equals the pause in my backswing. Then I think smooth acceleration through the ball. If my tempo is right then shoulders, hands, hips all seem to take care of themselves. I guess some days that corvette is more like a minivan and nothing works, but when it does I definately get *that feeling*.

  25. Thinking of adding a GPS this year. Since there are so many models and features available it's a bit overwhelming. Lots of bells and whistles that I'm pretty sure I wouldn't need or use. One I'm not sure of is the feature some have where you can move the cursor on the green and estimate where the pin is at for an even more accurate distance. You could also use this to get a distance to a ridge through the green or a false front, etc. Seems this would almost be the best of both worlds. Front, back, center, and hole layout of a GPS and laser scope-ing the pin, sort of. Has anyone used this? Is it as useful as I think it would be or is it really just another gotcha trick that isn't as cool as it appears? Thanks for the input.
