Ive REALLY lost my swing this time and am worried!!
lcfd42 replied to kleraudio's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
I'll add to my earlier quote, In Oct, for no reason, I had one of "those" rounds. It was hideous to say the least. I usually shoot low 80's. That day I broke 80 on the 12th hole and quit counting at 100. Everything I hat was duffing and my swing was terrible; nothing about my swing felt right. The next day I had stressed my hands and forarms so much trying to grip down on the club that day, I had actually torn some tissue inside my hands, and developed a bad case of tendonitis. After a couple weeks of anit-inflamatory drugs and pain meds., staying with the basics I did get my game back. I did have the ability to video a couple of swings recorded that day. To look at them now is all but hilarious. Seriously, work on SOUND FUNDAMNTAL PRACTICE, make sure your positions are correct and swing extra slowly maintaining those positions. Then start speeding up and hitting your longer clubs. You really don't need a bunch of expensive lessons to overcome this.(Mirrors are a good tool too.) Just a video camera, and a couple of hours a day. -
Did own a Launcher and traded it. I was inconsistent much too often to keep it (I didn't like it enough to front a shaft change). As for the loft, that is a quesrion of what your optimal launch angle is. Yo would need to go get on on of those launch monitors to determine that and your spin rate. Shafts have a tremandous amount to do with these numbers as well. If I were concernd as you are, I would go to and get checked in a LM to learn this info (LA and SR) and get fitted on the shafts. Just remember what is a S or X-flex in anything may be ok, its most important to know" when" during the swing the club actually bends and straightens, and "where" it bends in the length of the shaft. Try these things, that way you will have a good idea what loft drive/shft combo you should look into.

Git a gun, run through the woods hollerin' a bit! Then shoot a few times. Drag it home, skin it and hang it back on your wall. That's how to get your game back. Serously though, you haven't lost it. It just went into hiding. Your mind makes your body do really strange things when stressed. Even by something simple as a missed 3 foot putt. Be patient and keep practicing your fundamentals. Within a couple of rounds you will be right back where you were. Good Luck! -
I guess I will find out soon enough. I just picked up a (above avg.) nice set of used MP-32's. I will have to get the lie adj. 2* up before use, but hope to work them into my game. I will have to report back then.

Don't get me wrong guys the old guys can play, but there is a "senior" or Champions Tour for a reason. We do change as we age. As for equipment, the new tools do help the older players; though at the same time the youger players excel faster since the better equipment helps accelerate through learning curves. Players in sports today are much different than they were just 10 years ago. Things guys were praised for years ago, for what is just expected performance now. I would love to see another run like Tom Watson made, but I really don't see it anytime soon. Now with Tiger out, things will be even more tight between the younger guys. We may need to warn the guys on the Champions Tour of Tiger"s retun in 2022 or so (Ha Ha).

My 2 cents on the Old Guys winning a major thing. The older gen. players are giving up way too much distance to the younger, stronger, and more flexible up and comers. I know long play isn't everything, but it's hard to be a winner where your on the green in 2 on par 4s and the young guys are driving them and par 5s are long par 4s for them. The 8000yd. course will be a product of this. New equipment and training techniques are pressing these old dudes via warp speed to the Chamoins Tour. No new record will be made here. 95% sure....

Mama said there'd be days like this
lcfd42 replied to Shanks A Million's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
I have a lot of those days. The cold does bother me, as I have arthritis in my spine and hips. I just take some pain meds and go anyway. I generally do not play nearly as well, and seem to fatigue much quicker leading to getting sloppy in my swing around 14-15. I don't have this problem when the weather stays in the 50's and up. As for lie angles I have went from hitting a 4.5* upright a year ago to I can swing standard lie clubs with little troulbe now. That is a lot of flattening for someone over 6'4'", but I have found a tremndous amount of confidence and repeatablity in the flatter swing. One day I will learn to putt. Accepting your limitations is key in overcoming confidence issues. I know I can bust a good ball, but when its really cold I can add about 10 strokes to my score. Thats just the way it is, I don't like it but have learned to accept it as something I can't change (a limitation). Limitations can come in many forms; enviromental, physical, and the big one - mental. The first two have limited means of address when trying to play but you are in total control of your mental game. Build yourself up in your mind to be the best player there is and beleive that you can make every shot. Play each hole as a separate game, and each shot as an individual move within the game.(Don't let one bad shot drag down the rest of the round) I recall as quote that said something like 99% of golf is played between your ears and 1% on the course. (or something like that) It's true. Believe in yourself and have fun. Drink an extra beer on the bad days and just enjoy the fellowship. Keep golf fun. Good luck dude! -
Heavier club head = ball goes farther?
lcfd42 replied to hamletsdead's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
OK I can see this coming. Someone needs to set up a swing robot using different sized/weighted club heads (using Irons only as described by the OP) and swing them all at the same speed into a impact sensor that would provide such data as kinetic energy, momentum, and total energy transfer at impact. This way you would have scientific data to compare against. If you are asking for data in any other way, not removing as many variables as possible (ie - human effect) your findings will always be in error. I am in complete agreement that club weight preference will differ between golfers, and may aid some players in hitting longer. These differences would most likely come from weight aiding the swing. Think of them like a weighted swing trainer that uses weight to help you get on plane and train your hand position. Lighter clubs will play to a purer ball striker who will hit the ball longer than someone who is not anyway. All of these variables have to be accounted for or eliminated in these type discussions. Scientific facts will never change until the laws of physics can be bent or even broken. -
I have the budget for two clubs...
lcfd42 replied to jetman624's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I was thinking the same thing that he is probably an "armsy" swinger. That was the hardest habit in the world for me to break outside of smoking. I eventually quit both. Good luck OP, and spend the cash on lessons, your money will be much better spent. I sucked bad at one time, got new stuff. Then I just sucked with new equipment. Been there - done that. My poor HI is purely due to my hidieous putter. I could imprvove 3-4 HI points easily there myself. -
I am a proud member of the SCV PD Gireath Camp 1987 (we are not the stereotypical rednecks everyone portrays us to be)- as well as a member of the SC Society Sons of the American Revolution.

I would probably think this is different years of manufacture. One appeard to be stamped lettering wheras the other looks to be cut letters. I would guess the upper one is the older of the two. I'm not familiar with these particular clubs, but you do raise intriging questions on one sets authenticity.

Best Ball for Mid, Mid-High Handicappers
lcfd42 replied to Sowbug2000's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
Don't forget, not much will stick to frozen greens. I guess lately that Hawaii has the only ones that aren't frozen. Just so you know, when I last played that ball the temps were in the 50-60 range. So try a sleve before you pick up a doz. Good Luck! -

Checks fine with wedges, but the last time I played them I couldn't get them to hold well with the longer sticks. In cheaper balls. I like the NXT and Bridgestone e5 -
There must be. Everyone who has them seems to love them. A lot of people also go for the Cleveland and Scratch wedges as well.

need a reason to wear golf shoes? stand on a steep hillside that is wet with the ball below your feet, now hit a clean 180yd 6I draw shot. It's very unlikely you could do it without golf shoes. That's just one thing they do. Otherwise they feel good, help keep your feet dry, provide support, and are designed for the lateral motion the foot will make throughout the golf swing. I have Nike and FJ's, and like them both equally well.

Can't go wrong with Titleist, Cleveland or Scratch.

The easiest way to say you have done it right for me would be to say that right after impact the club seems to get a very heavy sensation and a feel of pulling down on the shoulders. When I feel this, it is always a good shot, pending alighnment, etc, etc.. are correct.

Tiger...not the first golfer with problems...give it a break..
lcfd42 replied to juanrjackson's topic in Tour Talk
I just caught the end of the discussion when I turned on the TV. Something about Tiger and the use of HGH? They were interviewing the PGA commisioner. Can anyone add anything to this? I'm not trying to start a rumor or anything, I just want to know what I really was hearing. Thanks. -
"Swing the Handle - Not the Clubhead" by Eddie Merrins
lcfd42 replied to iacas's topic in Reading Room
Found the DVD set on Overstock just before Christmas for 39.99. with free shipping. They may still have them. Well worth that, I just wish they didn't talk so much about "not golf" in between the lessons. The dvd's are a great value and a good investment. -
Jim, I experience the same problem, but it seems to be due to my clubhead being released just slightly early in my swing. Tempo is fine and swing is fine, just seem to release early. Been working on it and when I do keep my hands in the correct position at release, I can hit a SW 120yds. The whole problem is related to muscle memory. Tape your swing and check your timing. Good luck.

You are correct. Manhattan is the correct term. As previously stated I wasn't sure on the vermouth but that was abouit it. Been a lone time for me, please excuse the brain - she ain't what she used to be. Currently sipping Congac, trying to dr. a cold. And watching reruns on Golf Channel

It's been 20 yrs. but I remember such a drink served as you describe called a "Whiskey Martini". I don't recall the brand used or if Vermouth was used as in a regilar martini, though i have seen them.

Last I heard a bottle of blue would probably be in the $190 - $200 range for 750ml. I've been fortunate enough that the last (2) bottles that I received were gifts. I only drink it when I'm feeling "sporty" or special occasions. My usual fare is Glenlivet 18. Try the Glenlivet 21 as well, great mellow smokiness with a ending flavor that sneaks up on you (man that's good). I actually prefer it over the 25yr.which seems a bit more spicey. Glenlivet prices range 12yr-$45 15yr.-$75 18yr.-$100 21yr.-$160 and 25yr(or XXV) is around $300. There are many good single malts out there, so if you get a chance, try them all; I do. (MMMM-MMM good!)

DN, do you drink anything other than Lagavulin? Not knocking it, it's good stuff, just wandered if you ever went astray to say a JW blue?
