I have one and love it. (rescue 11). have had hybrids in the bag since the hogan cft came out, haven't carried a 3 iron in god knows how long and haven't carried a 4 iron for probably 4 years either.

At what price for performance?
jpalermo replied to misterjohn's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
The biggest change in my putting came with switching to the SuperStroke grip, takes all of the wrist action out of the equation.... Same putter, different grip. -
I used to have a Callaway steelhead 4 wood 17* that I had shortened to hybrid length and it was a perfect club for rough, fairway, and about 210 yards. bought the steelhead on eBay for 20 bucks with a ladies shaft in it and bought a shaft on eBay for $10. iit cost me $15 to put it together. I still have the club, I think. I think it's in my dads bag.

I hit the r11 vs SF 2.0 and bought the SF. I didn't like the way it sounded or felt. it was a nice driver just not for me. I did hit the 910 as well, traded in my 909d3 for the SF. the thing I wish the SF had was the interchangeable shaft adapter. been through 2 shafts so far an the next one is in route. would be nice to he able to take all three to the range and just change em out to see the differences.

i don't necessarily agree with the "stay away from titleist" post. I'm not saying go out and get 712 MB's but I don't see how a set of ap1's would hurt you. I personally am a big fan of getting clubs that you have to grow into. it will force you to become a better ball striker. you need feedback to get better. everytime I stop at golf galaxy I always try the GI irons and they all feel dead to me. if money is no object, go get fit. don't fall into the brand loyalty trap though, get what works for you. there are. ton of options out there, try as many as you can and then decide.

my grooves are fine. paint is awful but is a relatively easy fix.

Opinion on Titleist 710 cb irons
jpalermo replied to lsu70510's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
hit the cb's against the ap2's when I bought my irons. I thought the ap2's felt better and were more forgiving. bought the ap2's with kbs shafts. -
ok. so, the wedges look ok. you can see the brushlines in them from the brushwheel they used to strip or sand them down. finish is good, durable so far through 5 rounds. paint fill is a little sloppy and kinda tacky (will be a quick fix when I get a chance to get to the hardware store and get a paint marker) biggest difference from my old mizunos is the spin. man do they chew up the balls now, spin has increased but not surprised my old mizzies were a little worn. will post some pics this weekend. here is a link to some he has now: http://www.ebay.com/itm/VOKEY-MILLED-PORTED-BLACK-CHROME-3-WEDGE-SET-52-56-60-SPINE-ALIGNED-AWESOME-/330618561348?pt=Golf_Clubs&hash;=item4cfa66e344#ht_5508wt_689

prime example: my old irons we dci 762's. dg s300. played well with them but had low ball flight. 2* stronger lofts than my ap2's. ap2's kbs tour stiff. hit them higher, farther and with more spin. like I said, too many factors involved in shafts, weight is a big one. the dg s300 were a lot heavier than the kbs ball flight a lot lower with dgs300, but both were stiff flex. if your looking for the proper setup for your game, let the pros do it. go get fit.

the uniflex shafts should be fine for him. he used to swing harder but now he is approaching 60 an his range of motion has limited him to more of a 3/4 swing. he doesn't play much anymore so his game is pretty inconsistent anyway. lol. figured I would pick these up for him since his current irons are a "component" set that he ha made an they are pretty crappy. trying to sneak the game improvement thing past him, he's a proud old man and the Adams hybrid sets he wouldnt use. he would rather try to use my setup and be a macho golfer than use a set that suits his game because it says game improvement or senior flex on any of it. we will see what happens I guess. if not I'll put them in my basement for the next 25 years and I'll use them when I'm his age.

I agree with sean. I wouldn't be worried so much about the spin on a 10 yard shot. I can hit a 10-15 yard shot with almost all the clubs in my bag. what I use is going to depend on the situation, and the lie.

posted a 39/39. had one double. driver went a little haywire for a couple holes but my irons were on.

Picking up a set of these irons for my dad. anyone on TST have a set?
-
probably the right idea. there are so many different factors.
-
Srixon tour ad333. had gotten a box as a gift. not too shabby. decent distance and kinda soft. plays alot like the bridgestone e6. I chew up pro v's with the quickness so I may be switching as well.
-
it may not be the difference between the stiff or regular, each shaft has different characteristics. one stiff shaft will have a different bend point, torque, butt stiffness, tip stiffness than another. there is no standard for flex, it's pretty much whatever they want to call it. you could play a regular flex v2 in a higher shaft weight and it may feel and play the same as a mizayaki 59g x flex. it was probably just the wrong shaft for your swing. now, as far as the irons, you will always be more accurate with an iron than a driver. the stiff shaft will help you keep the ball straighter but you won't hit it as far.

not really sure what you want to know. I was going to get the eccos' but ran across these at pro shop at a golf tourney I was in, bought them, laced them up, and have been in love ever since. comfortable, stable, I have flat feet so it's always tough to find golf shoes that don't kill my feet. these will he the only ones I get from now on.

What Should A Typical "Bad" Score Be For A Given Handicap?
jpalermo replied to GonnaBreak70's topic in Golf Talk
i shot an 81 with a double and a triple the other day but it was a solid round except for those 2 holes. anything over 80 I complain. anything over 85 and I want to cut my clubs in half with an angle grinder. anything over 90 I give up the game (for about 36 hours and then I come back to reality and hit the range) I swear golf makes you bi-polar -
I love my 56, for those 2 shots only.... I use my 53 for pretty much everything 100 yards and in. same reason you use your 56. it's my money club. chips, pitches, 1/4, 1/2, 3/4... I use my 60 for down hill chips from off the backside that run straight down, I use my 50 for full shot at 130 or if I need a runner up over a ridge in the green. each one has a purpose and multiple shots... I love them all actually.

I'm not so sure a more lofted driver is what the problem is if he's spraying it. he's a long driver, they have to land a ball into a football field size grid to score. I'm guessing that his transition from long drive champ to pro golfer is going to take it's toll on his driving accuracy for a while yet. also with a ball speed like his he needs a lower launch angle to keep his flight flatter. so it may be more of a shaft issue than a loft issue, but I could be wrong, I'm not a club fitter. he plays his low lofted driver for a reason, I'm pretty sure his driver has been fit to him by someone. my real curiosity is in his short game and touch shots. how were they? how was he when it wasn't a full swing? touch around the greens?

never watched that one. actually don't watch the golf channel much. did get a kick out of the Barkley one, dude is a riot.

Had a guy at the range watch me for a little bit today and then ask me a couple questions about what I was doing and why. we proceeded to get into a little discussion about what the keys points of a good swing are and he went on and on about how he pays attention to like 30 things while he is swinging. I started to tell him that I really don't worry about anything but 4 spots in my swing. parallel on the take away, parallel at the top, parallel on the follow through, and belt buckle at the top of the follow through. not sure if anyone else does it this way or if it sounds goofy or not. the way I see it, at least for me, if I hit these key spots nothing really goes wrong. I have a tendency to get too quick, which throws off my first two "points" I will cock my wrists too soon and miss parallel on the takeaway, then get too quick on the downswing and never make it to parallel at the top. after that anything can happen. does this make sense to anyone else?

What cool social/custom rules have you played under?
jpalermo replied to Lofty Lefty's topic in Rules of Golf
we have a course that stays open all year so on those almost 40 degree days when we feel like playing we have our own set of rules we use: - frozen tundra rule : if your ball lands on the green and bounces off you get to put it back on (if you hit a wedge to a green th ball will most likely bounce 30 feet in the air due to the frozen ground that is like concrete -Snow drift rule: if there is a snow drift in your putting line you are allowed to make a path through the snow to the hole (this can get pretty creative, S's, ramps, etc get made) -Nancy Kerrigan rule: if your ball comes to rest on the top of a frozen pond it is in play (the ponds here freeze enough to skate on, why can't you play your ball off of it?.... this one is a risk reward deal, if you don't play it you still get the penalty stroke) not too exciting but it keeps it fun on a sunny 35-40 degree day -
it happens dude relax.
