  1. Couple of champions out to a good start... Langer -3 through 7 and Watson -2 through 5. Watson has mentioned in the past Augusta is too long for him nowadays but it wouldn't surprise me to see either one around on the weekend, especially after Watson looked great in Dubai.
  2. Cry me a river, Tiger.

    Augusta Week

Love the Masters. The yearly recaps are great to watch as well. I never understood why Golf Channel or somewhere didn't pick up early coverage each day. At least on the weekend.

    Mini Tour Play

Always enjoy the updates. Thanks Ben.
  5. These guys are way too patient / nice.
  6. Yeah, that was embarassing. Actually got on here to see if anyone else caught it. She was obviously firmly balanced on that right leg, and even if she wasn't, all of her weight was on her right side and she was leaning away from her left side where she grounded the club. Made no sense. I think she just failed to think about the fact that her ball was still in the hazard after the shot, then tried to talk her way out of it. Had she gotten it out she would have been fine to ground the club. But totally agreed, be a pro and take your strokes quietly.
  7. So in that case, does the "island" inside of the stream also count as part of that unmarked hazard? If you wanted to play from the island, could you? There's no bridge to get there, just a solid 4-5 foot leap.
  8. My apologies if this has been asked before, but I did a search and didn't find anything specifically regarding this situation. Played earlier this week with a buddy and ran into a rules dilemma that goes like this: Down the right side of the 6th hole runs a fairly shallow stream. At one point the stream forks around a small "island" covered in long grass, about 2 yards wide, 3-4 yards long... enough to take a comfortable stance if you needed to. The stream is not marked as a lateral hazard. My buddy pushes a ball right that ends up embedded in the island, which is a little muddy. We had a little rules argument about how to play the embedded ball; he felt he was entitled to a free drop and I thought that was only for closely mown areas. He referred to rule 25-1 b, "If the ball lies through the green, the player must lift the ball and drop it, without penalty, within one club-length of and not nearer the hole than the nearest point of relief." I referred to 25-2, "A ball embedded in its own pitch-mark in the ground in any closely mown area through the green may be lifted, cleaned and dropped, without penalty, as near as possible to the spot where it lay but not nearer the hole. The ball when dropped must first strike a part of the coursethrough the green. "Closely mown area" means any area of the course, including paths through the rough, cut to fairway height or less." We've agreed I was correct, which I will continue to remind him of for the rest of our golfing lives. So my question is this - since it wasn't a closely mown area, how do you play the next shot? Do you treat the island as part of the hazard, as if the ball was in the water, and then drop the ball within two clubs of the spot it crossed into the hazard? On the line of the shot? Do you drop it within a club length of where it was embedded on the island? Thanks in advance.
  9. Just announced his return at the Masters. Surprise surprise... edit: link - http://sports.espn.go.com/golf/news/story?id=4999991
  10. The charts above look great. But to go in another direction, and this may sound too complicated, but what if you made it dynamic based off of your last 10-20 rounds? Basically, you could keep the categories already in Scorecard the same (0-3, 4-6, 7-10), and then either a) tally avg. putts from these categories over your last x number of rounds or b) (probably stupid idea) average only the bottom 50% of "putt performances" (to create somewhat of an putting anti-handicap) from each category. I don't think option b would make that much sense, but it would be easy to see when you are having an above average putting day. The "con" is that you'll always be putting against yourself. I don't have Scorecard, but do players upload their rounds to a server? If so, I think the closest possible method you could get to the PGA statistic would be to either a)gather stats from each category from specific courses (would probably lead to small sample sizes) or b)gather stats from each category from courses that are grouped by course rating/slope. I realize that not all greens are equal from course to course, but I would assume that the tougher courses generally have tougher greens. I'm sure this would lead to a giant sample size that you could then sort by handicap level to put out a putts gained "goal" for a specific player with a specific handicap playing a specific rated course... with a specific length putt. I might have gotten too complicated, but hope this helped. Good luck!
  11. Ironically enough I just read this article the other day. It's perfect for this thread. http://findarticles.com/p/articles/m.../ai_n26827727/ It talks about average GIRs to reach a certain score, avg putts, etc. It lists a formula to predict your score based off of GIRs. Haven't tried it yet, but... the author is very adamant that your score will be within a few shots barring any blowup holes. Score = 95 - (GIR x 2) So, if you hit 5 GIRs, you'd average around an 85. ANyways... not sure how well the formula works, but the article is very interesting.
  12. If you're looking for cheap, public, city course, Charlie Vettiner is a great layout and usually in the best shape of any city course I've played on. Very challenging. If you want to spend a little money, and drive a little, across the river in Indiana are two great Fuzzy Zoeller courses, Champions Pointe and Covered Bridge. Covered is a links style course. Both are $45 dollars for off season rates (cart included). Both of those courses are about the same distance/drive time as Nevel is from downtown, roughly 15 minutes. Nevel and Heritage Hill are very nice. In south Louisville there is a 27 hole layout, Quail Chase that is another nice public course. Usually in rough shape this time of year, though. Sorry, probably more information than you needed. Good luck with weather; I think next Thursday and Friday are supposed to reach the low 50's but it looks like rain may be in the picture. Which means it should be sunny!
  13. Thanks jamo and fatphil... haha, actually, the house at the end of the view is one of my best buddies from college... so he should be fine with it. I'm also hitting "almostgolf" balls... so the 7 iron I was hitting still lands about 15 yards short.
  14. Nice, thanks a lot. I played tennis in college so I've got a lot of experience hearing left right left etc... thanks.
  15. Basically... a much more "athletic" stance? I think I've heard where players have said their stance feels like they're in a defensive basketball stance. Is that anywhere near correct?
  16. Thanks man. Makes a lot of sense.
  17. I'm rather new to the site, but I've learned more about the golf swing in the last month or two I've been lurking around the site than I had the rest of my life. I appreciate the community around here a ton. That being said, I know these might get annoying, but I figure I'd see if anyone had a second to give a thought or two on my swing. I used to hit a pretty strong slice, but after working in the basement and backyard over the winter, I've come out hitting a little draw this "spring." Any thoughts are appreciated! Thanks. Sorry about the poor video quality.
  18. I didn't play high school golf but I did play and coach college tennis. I don't know if it translates (although I bet it does), but the NUMBER ONE problem my players had was worrying about who played at what position. It doesn't matter where you play, only that you give your best effort and do your job for the team. It's nice to get the recognition of being #1, but in the end, it doesn't matter. You do your thing like you know you can and no matter where you play, the rest will all work out. Good luck next year!
  19. Nicely done. Glad to see he answered it correctly for the most part.
  20. I give the nod to Jack because of the caliber of competitors he had around him. I think there are more good players today then there was then, but I don't think there are as many players who mentally can compete at the highest level against Tiger.
  21. I tried to brave the cold a few weeks ago but couldn't handle the rain that started when I was on #8. Shot a 40 on the front before heading home.
