  2. Yeah I'd also like to know what is wrong with the video. The majority of my lessons are heavily based on that video!
  3. I agree with part of your last sentence i.e. not moving the torso and just moving the arms would get the elbow more down but not in front. I don't know how a golfer can turn their torso and keep their elbow where it is. Surely it is forced to move around and out in front of the body?
  4. I didn't think the tip was very well presented, but then it is difficult to record a decent tip in 1:30. Also, I haven't seen many golfers in the exaggerated position she demonstrates. However, the tip itself wasn't bad as I agree with the suggestion for slicers to try and keep their right elbow behind them more on the downswing. Many slicers start their downswing by turning their shoulders which is turn causes the elbows to get too far in front of the body. Result = out-to-in swing path.
  5. I would be very interested to know how this meeting goes. Please post your comments on Paul's teaching here when you get a chance. Thanks.
  6. I 'fired' a student after 4 (of 12) 30-minute lessons earlier this year because he was getting very close to being disrespectful towards me. I tried my hardest to help him but it was impossible as he refused to try and understand anything I said to him. Not even "flat left wrist" or "low point of swing after the ball". He'd whack a ball while I was explaining something and interrupt me asking why it went left. After the fourth lesson I told him that was the last lesson I was going to give him and that he had a choice: either continue the lessons with another instructor or we'd reimburse him for the remaining 8 lessons. He chose another instructor who recently confided in me that the guy treats him the same and he only puts up with him because he needs the money. I'm sorry, but I couldn't do that.
  7. That was also my impression watching the Ryder Cup.
  8. Wasn't Tiger -8 in the match against Colsaerts (-10)? That's probably what Erik meant. But having said that, Tiger was poor in the other matches he played and Stricker not much better.
  9. I have absolutely no problem with that. Never give a putt you think someone could miss. I thought it was strange Hanson gave Dufner a funny look after that putt. If your opponent doesn't give you a putt you have to accept their decision and get on with it.
  10. I agree. He is a professional and should have been trying to make that putt regardless. To say he didn't take as much time over it because the US couldn't win the cup is quite frankly ridiculous. If that's how he felt, why didn't he just concede the hole in the middle of the 18th fairway instead of finishing the hole with that attitude?
  11. My point exactly. I thought that was Dufner not giving Hanson a two footer?
  12. How can the fact that a draw is the same as a defeat to the US be lost on you? Look no further than Tiger giving that putt to Molinari to show there was absolutely no difference. He quite clearly couldn't give a damn by that stage as the US couldn't get the cup back. It doesn't surprise me that you fail to understand the spirit in which this game should be played.
  13. That's a good point, but professional sportsmen shouldn't be thinking about betting outcomes while playing. The right thing to do was end the match the moment Kaymer holed his putt.
  14. Personally, I would have liked Molinari to have conceded his match in the middle of the 18th fairway. A 14-14 tie would have been fine. No one loses and the Europeans retain the cup. Playing that last hole was one of the most awkward and pointless moments I've seen in sports. There was a huge party going on next to the green, for crying out loud! No one came out of those final moments of the Ryder Cup with any credit.
  15. I thought it was great. Like with tennis, I have never understood the need for total silence while hitting a shot. Surely a lot of noise makes it harder for one particular sound to distract a player?
  16. You'll be fine for a week in Europe. We've got good streets here! ;-)
  17. The golf academy I work at has just signed a deal with Ecco and I have just started wearing my first pair. They are extremely comfortable for both giving lessons and playing. I've only been wearing them for a couple of weeks now so cannot comment on whether they will last long for normal street walking. However, my boss has been wearing Ecco golf shoes for years now and goes everywhere with them. He claims the rubber spikes last forever. It seems to go against what others are saying though.
  18. Even by his standards, that's a long night out!
  19. Hey, even better ... just watch the Open Championship!
  20. Fantastic! That is the sort of instructor every golfer should have lessons from. Since watching/studying the 5SK DVDs, I am now incorporating this technique into my teaching. I'd already realised I was guilty of trying to tackle too many pieces during a lesson but watching the DVDs really hit home. This afternoon I have my third lesson with a beginner and it will be the third lesson working on a steady head. I've already told her we cannot move on until we nail this piece. She can do it without a ball, she can do it chipping and pitching, but not with a full swing.
  21. Yes. Buy them, you won't regret it.
  22. Could you send me the link to the thread, I can't see it? Thanks.
  23. I agree that it is not easy to hit the golf ball doing this drill, but if nothing else it tells the golfer how NOT to start their downswing.
